Re: [Elecraft] For Sale: Elecraft K2 - 10 Watt Version
That is a K2 at a bargain price. For any who may be concerned about the dial calibration, I invite you to visit my website www.w3fpr.com article on K2 Dial Calibration. I would recommend that the KSB2 option be made functional before aligning the KSB2 filters. 73, Don W3FPR On 8/1/2012 12:45 AM, ingerassocia...@cox.net wrote: I recently purchased this K2/10 (S/N 1848) from the original owner/builder. It is built with very good craftsmanship, and includes the noise blanker and 160-m modules. Additionally, a partially built (90%) SSB module and an unbuilt ATU module is included. The ATU module is missing several components and hardware, all of which are readily and inexpensively available from Elecraft. I have made a complete list of all the AWOL parts. I have a set of prewound toroids from the “Toroid Guy” for the SSB and ATU modules that will be included in the package (A $30 value by itself). All manuals are also included. The radio looks great and is totally unmolested. The only problem is that the display is off frequency by varying amounts depending on the band. I’m sure that the frequency calibration procedure, as outline in the manual, will solve this problem. I will also include an alternate calibration method passed on to my by Gary Surrency of Elecraft. Unfortunately family issues and work priorities would require me to “back burner” the completion of the modules and tuning up the radio for several months. I’m lucky right now to turn on my K3 for an hour or two a week. The above package is available for $380 plus shipping. [Elecraft] P3: data on P3 monitor?
Being stuck for desk space and having returned to Windows for logging (I have a Mac on the same desk), I cancelled my order for the SVGA unit some months ago. However, I would like to be able to display PSK31 data etc on the P3's own display and connect a keyboard, even if that means buying the SVGA functionality I don't foresee needing in the short term. However, from what I have read, this data is only currently being displayed on the external monitor. Are there plans afoot to display data on the P3's own screen? I don't have a problem (yet!) with the small display and would happily lose panadaptor function whilst in data mode. 73 Stephen G4SJP (discovering his K3/P3 again after infatuation with the KX3!) __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Jim, I'm not quite understanding why VMWare would be useless in this instance. If you are using a serial USB device, you get to choose whether to present that device to the host OS (the mac) or to the guest OS (the instance of windows in the VM). Simply load up your drivers in the instance of windows running in your VM, choose to present this device to the guest OS (the VM) and it should work FB. I used to do this all the time and it has always worked perfectly. Now that said, I've never used the K144XV application so I don't know about that, but I do know about VMware and when the drivers are loaded and the USB serial port is presented to the VM, it's a serial port like any other. 73 Aloha, Dave, AH6TD On Jul 31, 2012, at 6:13 PM, Jim Bennett wrote: Well, as JC Fogerty said in his Stuck in Lodi Again tune: things got tough, then things got worse… It turns out that VMWARE Fusion is worthless for trying to run the K144XV application under Win/XP. [Elecraft] P3 SVGA Anomalies
An observation while copying W1AW CW broadcast which has an excellent S/N ratio here, I have noticed characters being dropped on the SVGA monitor screen. NOT displayed on the K3 appeared as NT on the monitor. REDUCE on the K3 display is shown as REDCE on the SVGA monitor for a couple of examples. This is a frequent occurrence and is not related to a particular character. If the K3 has it, why is it being dropped by the SVGA/FFT board? Also wordspaces are not being handled properly at elevated speeds. I assume the decoded characters are being passed to the P3 via the CAT connection as MacLogger DX's keyer function also displays the decoded CW from the K3 and in past observations does so quite faithfully.. I look forward to the promised upgrades of the decoder software. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] P3 hookup
The SteppIR controller should be looking for IF auto-info responses containing frequencies from the K3. The P3 passes these through its serial interface from the K3 to the computer side. There is additional private traffic between the P3 and K3; very likely the SteppIR controller is smart enough to ignore that chitchat. The serial connection between the P3 and K3 is always 38400 bps (and the P3 firmware should set this speed automatically). The serial speed between your Computer and P3 is whatever you set the P3 to. Most computer software (and your StepIR) see the P3/K3 combination as a K3, even though the computer serial cable is connected first to the P3. If the SteppIR controller needs to be at a speed other than 38400, you'll need to put it on the computer side of the P3. Real experience (or info from SteppIR) should trump my theoretical opinion here: I don't have a SteppIR controller. Pelican's foam inserts have pickpluck precut foam which allows you to shape the middle section of foam to the device you're storing in it. Using your fingers you can easily remove the precut squares of foam until the entire cutout closely matches the shape of your radio including the knobs. [Elecraft] KSB2 Problem with Assembly
I am currently in the process of assembly a KSB2 (REV E KSB2 PC Board) which I purchased with my K2 in November 2011. I am currently completing the installation of the resistors on the back side of the board. After I completed installing the resistors I noticed that I had an extra 10K resistor. Just to be safe I downloaded the latest manual and compared it to my manual. It lists an additional four resistors on the back of the board (R21, R22, R23 and R24). I have two questions: 1. Should I be concerned that these resistors are not on the Rev E board? 2. What is the purpose of the additional resistors? Re: [Elecraft] KSB2 Problem with Assembly
Fred, Look carefully, that new manual does not match your KSB2. Yours has an SSM2165 Speech Compressor and the new one uses an SSM2166 - the added resistors support that new IC. As far as the extra 10k resistor, one is supplied with every KSB2 for use as a bias resistor if needed. It is listed in the parts list as a component on the front panel. 73, Don W3FPR On 8/1/2012 3:30 PM, KC9QQ wrote: I am currently in the process of assembly a KSB2 (REV E KSB2 PC Board) which I purchased with my K2 in November 2011. [Elecraft] KX3 KXAT3 SWR re-tune request threshold
Hi folks, For years, I have worked portable with an inverted-vee as a multiband antenna and a ladder line feeder. With the KX1 internal tuner, the T1 or a LDG Z-817, once tuned in a band, I did not have to re-tune as long as I stayed in that band. However, with the KXAT3 and with the same antenna, the ATU symbol often begins to 'flash' if I change frequency within a band requiring a new tuning even if I tuned on that band. So... I wonder if a new menu item could be added in the KX3 offering the possibility to set the SWR threshold over which there would be no re-tune request by the KXAT3? That threshold could be adjustable offering 3 choices like 1.5:1 and 2:2 or also even to 3:1 for example. I can cope easily with a 3:1 SWR, the loss is not so great... Meanwhile, thanks again for that wonderful rig. Thanks Dick. The speed settings will be fun to sort. 73, Mike NF4L On 8/1/12 2:09 PM, Dick Dievendorff wrote: The SteppIR controller should be looking for IF auto-info responses containing frequencies from the K3. Re: [Elecraft] P3 hookup
It should work either way, but it would be better to put the SteppIR Y RS-232 cable on the PC side of the P3 instead of the K3 side. As Dick mentioned, then you aren't limited to 38400 baud. And also there is less traffic on that side, which may be less confusing to the SteppIR. BTW, I will be getting a SteppIR antenna here at N1AL soon so I can try it out myself. Pierre, When you bypass the tuner, it is taken out of the circuit (well almost) - sort of like no tuner at all. Re: [Elecraft] KX3 KXAT3 SWR re-tune request threshold
Pierre, Wayne has responded on the KX3 Yahoo group that the band segments are 20 kHz wide, so if you start at the bottom of the band (well - 10 kHz inside) and do an ATU TUNE, then move up 20 kHz and do another ATU TUNE - continue until you get to the top of the band of interest - the KXAT3 will remember the settings for all those band segments and you will not have to touch the ATU TUNE again until you change the antenna being used for that particular band. When working in the field, I do this as part of my initial setup and there is no further concerns about tuning. At home I set the tuner to bypass because I have resonant antennas for each band - no tuner required. 73, Don W3FPR On 8/1/2012 8:00 PM, Pierre wrote: Hi Stan, What I often do is to make very frequent band change so I would have to repeat each time the bypass/debypass process... [Elecraft] Dead K3 - Comes Alive!
Well sure enough, the buys at Elecraft (Thanks Harold!!!) shipped me parts overnight and my K3 came to life. They very smartly shipped a new Q2 (bad) and the K3 12DC Current Mod Kit. While my radio had the kit installed from the factory, the kit had two very important parts. D35 was shorted in my radio. D34 comes in the kit but is the same as D35. so there's my replacement. But one additional part. the self-healing 1A fuse became my bridge across the empty Q2 spot to test out the rest of the radio before I installed the new Q2. It all worked perfect, and my K3 is back on track to be on the air starting Saturday afternoon on J6. Now more than ever, I'm looking forward to the trip. [Elecraft] [KAT500] It's August Already
Here it is August already. Time just passes by so quickly. This weekend is SeaFair here in Seattle with the Hydro races, Blue Angels, and Pirates. When I ordered my KAT500, SeaFair seemed like such a long ways into the future. So, I wonder how close Elecraft is to meeting the earlier schedule of shipments beginning around the middle of the Month. Does anyone have any inside information? 73, phil, K7PEH __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 I/Q output for pandapter
Buck, I have my KX3 running using the NaP3 software with the same sound card you have. The operating system is Windows 7. The one thing I found out quickly was that I needed the beta driver from Creative Labs. The rest of it was a little more than a little fiddling with the set up. But, it works rather nicely. I can point and click and the the radio tune to that signal. It's great!! I also have PowerSDR-IQ running with the radio, but it only operates as a panadapter; PowerSDR-IQ doesn't control the radio like NaP3. There are just two issues I've run into. The first, I have not been able to get VAC to work with NaP3. Secondly, I can hear the refresh click in the outputted audio. This doesn't happen in any of the other SDR software I've tried. Some suggestions: 1. Start with the sample rate set to 48 KHz. 2. Install Omnirig - available for free on the web 3. Make your input and out put card set to the EMU-0202 and use the audio jack of the soundcard to connect to a powered stereo speaker. 4. Make sure you are really plugged into the EMU-0202 as you think you need. Best of luck and enjoy. 73, Barry K3NDM - Original Message - From: Buck k4ia k...@aol.com To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Sent: Wednesday, August 1, 2012 10:40:09 PM Subject: [Elecraft] KX3 I/Q output for pandapter I am fooling around with an EM0202 external soundcard and NaP3 which works just fine with an LpPan pandapter providing the I/Q from my K3 but I am not having much luck with the KX3, I have turned on the RX I/Q in the menu and run the I/Q output from the KX3 to the soundcard. I had to crank the gain way up but the signals are not there - just images, a blip in the center frequency and mirrored spurs on either side. . Before I go crazy trying to get this to work, is it fully implemented at this time and should it work? If it is, I will go about trouble shooting my cables and connectors. -- Buck k4ia K3 # 101 KX3 #715 __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] KX3 Memories
I have a question about saving frequencies to memories. I understand the basic procedure. My question: If you want to save a frequency to a memory which has another frequency already in it, do you have to first erase that particular memory and then save the new frequency to that memory?, or can you simply overwrite that existing memory with the new frequency? __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
