I've noticed a number of people saying that they are having trouble with
shorewall but bastille is working well for them... You might try that.
I've got a small dedicated router these days (after 8 years 24/7 running
and god knows how many OS's my firewall box died a while back) So I
don't use either of them.. I'll look for it and pop in a vote for you.

Saw this one in the Cooker thought it might help.

 start
Same problem exist in RC2 as in RC1 and all Betas

 Home LAN
6 systems, 5 connecting to internet though gateway system via dhcp with
each system needing a static IP.

During clean RC installation/Networking, either automatic or if manually
configured during Summary, all hardware component are detected and
properly configured and the pkgs dhcp-common, dhcp-client, and tmdns
 are installed.

The problem is that this Does Not properly set-up this type system.
Once the new install is booted even though everything appears in order
and drakconnect even tells you that your network is properly configured
 No Internet connection is possible.

 /etc/sysconfig/network
 NETWORK=yes

 /etc/host
 127.0.0.1localhost

You can start editing files galore if you aren't a Newbie, and even have
a clue as to what files to even look for, or if you are a Newbie and
this your first taste of Linux you could and might just say fuck-it and
boot back to Windows where everything works.

The solution is really quite simple.
For this type of network connection you do not need dhcp-common.
 You do not need dhcp-client.
 You do not need tmdns.

Understand that if you do this, drakconnect can no longer be used and the
network must be set up manually. If drakconnect is run again, dhcp-client
and dhcp-common will be reinstalled.

I have not experienced this at all. I did a clean install last night. Other
than having to manually install iptables and shorwall, it worked as
advertised. It would be very helpful to the developers if those of you that
are having trouble with shorewall would report whether you did an upgrade or
clean install, the order you ran the draktools in, re; ICS first and then
shorewall, or shorewall first and then ics., etc.

My comment was based on what I'm seeing in the Cooker mailing list
there it's all rc2 stuff (as was Fransico's) and there is a lot of this
info.

It is purely familiarity. Shorewall works as good as bastille in all
cases. Shorewall has different defaults and people don't know how to
configure it to work for them.

The question then becomes what are they using to configure it? I
dislike gui configuration utilities, but they do seem to be what is
being requested. So what are people trying to do? How can the
configuration utilities provide that functionality?

Those are the questions that will need to be answered for 9.2 (already
too late for 9.1).

Blue skies... Todd

Once installed you need only run
# dhcpcd -d
the system will be assigned a static IP address, in my case it is
192.168.0.6 for machine #6 on the chain.
On subsequent boots dhcpcd will be auto started during boot.

/etc/sysconfig/network and /etc/host will not be changed but a new
config file will be present /etc/dhcpc/dhcpcd-eth0.info

[EMAIL PROTECTED] charles]$ cat /etc/dhcpc/dhcpcd-eth0.info

If the network configuration, this also applies to the stand alone
drakconnect, is not going to be fixed to resolve this issue could there
not at the least be an errata posted that addresses it.
