Jeff W. isn't maintaining the package any more so I took him off the
 reply.

This issue points out why it's a pain to try to have anything
integrate with non-Fink 3rd-party stuff--they like to change things
around, and we have to figure out how to adjust our packages
accordingly. In this case it looks like you're also going to need
 to do something like

 sudo install_name_tool /Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Versions/2.6/
 Resources/lib/libR.dylib \
 /sw/Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Versions/2.6/Resources/lib/
 libR.dylib /Applications/R.app/Contents/MacOS/./R

See if that works--if so then we'll update the docs accordingly.

Alex,

After looking at this a bit, I'm in agreement with Martin.

In any event, tor my purpose, I only need to understand the manner by
which R computes quantiles, so that the same algorithm may be applied
to Octave. Hence, my need is short term.

However, I can still take a look at this if you think it proper to
press on.

In that case, I think the R documentation is adequate.

Go to a CRAN mirror, such as http://cran.cnr.berkeley.edu/, click on
the Manuals link at the left, download the R Reference Index (a
pdf), find the man page for the quantile function (in the stats
package), and I think you'll have what you're looking for.

Or install the binary distribution for Mac OS X from CRAN and use the
help from there. If your Mac OS is too old for the current CRAN,
older versions can be found at CRAN.

Source code can be downloaded easily enough from CRAN if you want to
see the actual source code.

2008-01-15 Thread Nigel Stanger
On 16/1/2008 3:42 AM, Alexander Hansen at [EMAIL PROTECTED] spake
thus:

 sudo install_name_tool
 /Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Versions/2.6/Resources/lib/libR.dylib \
 /sw/Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Versions/2.6/Resources/lib/libR.dylib
 /Applications/R.app/Contents/MacOS/./R

I tried more or less that a while back by creating a symlink to
sw/Library/Frameworks/R.framework in /Library/Frameworks. That seemed to
work fine for most things, but I eventually ran into some really weird
problems (which I can't remember the details of, sorry) that stopped me in
my tracks. I ended up removing the fink version and just installing the full
R.pkg and it all worked fine after that.

This whole arrangement doesn't look healthy to me. If one needs to ask
people to download a part of the precompiled R distribution, then why
have a Fink package in the first place?

On the other hand, the sources for the R.app do exist somewhere, and it
should be possible (and a rather trivial task compared with the
compilation of the whole thing) for the Fink package to build the app
bundle with the right library names, too.
