[Flightgear-devel] [OT] The real Hansa Jet on the road again

2010-01-24 Thread Torsten Dreyer
Hi,

as some of you might be aware of, I made a model of a HFB 320 Hansa Jet some
time ago for FlightGear. HFB is the acronym for Hamburger Flugzeug Bau, a
predecessor for AIRBUS. A group of aviation enthusiasts in Hamburg acquired
the probably last available aircraft of this type to restore it into a flyable
condition. For some time now the aircraft was based at EDDH (Hamburg) and has
now been relocated to the AIRBUS site at EDHI (Finkenwerder) by truck.

Enjoy some pictures of the voyage here:

Greetings, Torsten

Would be nice if someone could commit this so the 787 doesnt
 crash at startup

 Pete :-)

It looks as though the 787 author was trying to model a complex
fuseage shape; in the old 787 YASim config I have there are 6
different overlapping fuselage elements (plus another two for the
engine nacelles), the one that you've changed indeed having a zero
length, hence the error message.

Even then though, the total fuselage length seems incorrect. The
most forward fuselage element starts at 25.91 metres (ax=25.91) and
the most rearward element ends at -13.6 (bx=-13.6) giving a total
fuselage length of 39.51 metres; a 787 (-3/-8) fuselage should be
56.7 metres long.

Having experimented with using multiple fuselage elements like this,
I came to the conclusion that it didn't actually offer any benefits
(and neither did defining the engine nacelles, which isn't too
surprising as the air flows through the engines nacelles and not
around them).

So assuming the the nose of the 3D model is located at 25.91 metres
(and not at 0.0 in accordance with the standard FG Visual Refrence
Point) then a single fuselage element with ax= 25.91, az= 0.1 and
bx= -30.79, bz= 1.4, and with a taper of between 0.3-0.5, should be
about right.

However, simply doing this is likely to change the YASim CoG because
it distributes the total aircraft weight according to the various
element definitions.

Another strange thing: I have problems with 3D clouds in KSFO, looks like it is

It looks as though the 787 author was trying to model a complex
fuseage shape; in the old 787 YASim config I have there are 6
different overlapping fuselage elements (plus another two for the
engine nacelles), the one that you've changed indeed having a zero

 Point) then a single fuselage element with ax= 25.91, az= 0.1 and
 bx= -30.79, bz= 1.4, and with a taper of between 0.3-0.5, should be
 about right.

However, simply doing this is likely to change the YASim CoG because
it distributes the total aircraft weight according to the various
 element definitions.

 LeeE

So what happens Next ?
The patch seems to make the 787 not crash, and the aircraft seems to fly
as normal.

Is the Author Joshua Wilson still around, or is this aircraft abandoned ?

The Objects/- and Models/-directories inside the TerraSync repository
are in sync with each other. If you start FlightGear with:

  --prop:/sim/paths/use-custom-scenery-data=true

then it's going to fetch the required model files from the
TerraSync location as well, no matter if the directory names differ
from those in CVS or not. I'm uncertain wether the above flag is
enabled by default or not.

Actually this is the plan: To allow Scenery- as well as model-authors
to proceed with development of, to put it simple, new ideas without
being forced to stick with the directory structure as shipped with the
latest official FlightGear release and/or CVS.

Re: [Flightgear-devel] [OT] The real Hansa Jet on the road again

2010-01-24 Thread Victhor
I s want to do that as well! :D Let's all get some money and buy an
old VASP 727-200 that's parked at our airport, SBRF! :D
(There's a 737-200 too, if you're interested. Also SBBR(not SBRF) has a
Transbrasil 767(flew on one of those twice), not sure if it's still
there, it was the last time I was there(about a year ago))

[Flightgear-devel] Autopilot Tuning

2010-01-24 Thread Pete Morgan
I'm having a successful time tuning my first autopilot on the 787.

I've managed to get rid of the jerks and wobbles, mainly by using a
noise-spike filter with max-rate-of-change. That thanks to Syd
Adams for that wonderful tip.

All flight level changes, and NAV, heading can be tuned very well, at
the current tuning speed of 250 knots.

However, at lower and higher speeds, the behaviour changes, sometimes
significantly.

So it it possible to have two different PID/configs's operating at
different airspeeds..

eg in psuedo code

config
   {if getprop(airspeed)  150 }
Kp0.07/Kpbeta0.5/beta
   {else}
Kp0.06/Kpbeta0.3/beta
{if}
/config

Hope it makes sense..
