OMG ... Went to DOGPILE – and I was under the illusion that there
was only Google so I’m learning something – and found this:

“We start, then, with nothing, pure zero. But this is not the
nothing of negation. For not means other than, and other is merely
a synonym of the ordinal numeral second. As such it implies a
first; while the present pure zero is prior to every first. The
nothing of negation is the nothing of death, which comes second to,
or after, everything. But this pure zero is the nothing of not
having been born. There is no individual thing, no compulsion,
outward nor inward, no law. It is the germinal nothing, in which
the whole universe is involved or foreshadowed. As such, it is
absolutely undefined and unlimited possibility -- boundless
possibility. There is no compulsion and no law. It is boundless
freedom.” Charles S. Peirce, Logic of Events (1898)

Then I did a random Google image search and found these:

More%20of%20Nothing.JPG

nothing.jpg

All of which kind of suggests that there is quite a bit to nothing
and it also seems that’s been know for some time. So I think DA’s
explanation – 42 – is more comprehendible albeit that all this is
quite interesting.

Then again, when I didn1t go to the meeting it was
 quite OK doing nothing

There are dozens of search engines. I ddon't really
understand why Google is so highly regarded as I've
always found it to be lacking. Ask Jeeves is far
superior for general enquiries and Dogpile is great
for finding images and sound files. Michael

Didnt Ray Johnson have Nothings as a counterpoint to Happenings which were going on in the sixties NewYork art scene?

if you really want to get creepy you might read the Sun of Wisdom -the teachings of Nonle Nagarjuna. The premise is that we do not exist because non-existence is something...well you have to read the book.

Dear Fluxfriends,
One of the reasons we advocate being familiar with the work of the original
Fluxus artists is recognizing when new works are related to or similar to
old ones.

While this piece takes a new twist, it resembles an existing work by Ken
Friedman that announces the appearance of an artist who does not show up.

How to do nothing:
1)Establish the time and the place of the thing or activity which you feel
most compelled or necessary to do. (Example; Going to the bathroom.)

2)When the time comes for you to be in that place don't show up or go
elsewhere. nbsp;(You will be doing nothing.)

once made a collage based on a Ball Pen ad which read; Nothing rolls like a
Ball--gave it to Jeffrey and Dan Green of the Butterflies of Love, they
have since metamorphed into something else and are rumored to be in
England--no google brought it up--anyone ever hear of these chappies?
anyway--ever since I have absolutely loved nothing.

Hey I searched through DOGPILE and found this drawing
of nothing by a scientist! It's supposed to be the
universe before the BIG BANG. Seems it was a squiggly
line that went round in a sort of amorphous blob
shape. Scientists are ALWAYS right so this is what
NOTHING looks like. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is.
