 Hmmm maybe you guys would know I've gone the same route as you.
 However, I've emerge 4.1.65. It compiles fine, installs, no problems.

And you don't wonder why 4.1.65 follows 4.1.1? That's 4.2-(pre?)-alpha! The
next 4.1 release will be 4.1.2.

 Does anyone have a suggestion?

Don't use alpha software.

 Now running 3.5.10 with no problems. But I'd really, really like to get a
 current kde up and running.

Do as suggested earlier in this thread: Use the kde-testing overlay.

Bye...

One fix, sync if you haven't today then upgrade eix. The version of eix
you need is app-portage/eix-0.13.5 that was released in the last day or
so. It is keyworded/masked as well.

Yes, I saw that. I had to add the users who use ssmtp to the ssmtp group

[gentoo-user] How to unmerge kde 4.1?

Since KDE 4 is still masked, I would think you could remove the keyword

Ah, that triggered a memory and with a little checking found a problem.
 When kde-portage overlay was used, I had added a symlink:

package.unmask # ls -l
total 8
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 77 2008-08-31 18:00 kdesvn -
/usr/portage/local/layman/kdesvn-portage/Documentation/portage/package.unmask

which is no longer available in kde-testing overlay:

package.unmask # ls /usr/portage/local/layman/kde-testing/Documentation/
kde-guide.xml  package.keywords  README  TODO

Same for package.keywords

Off to try to discover what it's all been changed to...

  Basically, I would probably look at methods of hooking it onto the IP
  assigned to the device (ifplugd should be able to do this), but that is
  the basic idea.

 You could do it in the postup function of /etc/conf.d/net.

Right I made 2 scripts:

/root/scripts/hosts.world

#!/bin/bash
MYFILE='/etc/hosts.backup'
OLDHOST=`grep fandango $MYFILE | awk '{ print $1 }'`
NEWHOST=`host fandango.dyndns.foo | gawk '{print $4}'`
sed s/$OLDHOST/$NEWHOST/ $MYFILE  /etc/hosts

/root/scripts/hosts.home

#!/bin/bash
MYFILE='/etc/hosts.backup'
OLDHOST=`grep fandango $MYFILE | awk '{ print $1 }'`
NEWHOST=192.168.1.5
sed s/$OLDHOST/$NEWHOST/ $MYFILE  /etc/hosts

Then I added a postup function in /etc/conf.d/net

postup() {
if [[ ${IFACE} == ppp1 ]] ; then
/root/scripts/hosts.home
elif [[ ${IFACE} == ppp2 ]] ; then
/root/scripts/hosts.world
fi
return 0
}

It works like a charm :)

cd to the kdesvn overlay in every category and emerge --unmerge *, then
cleanup your portage configuration files.. You can always make sure all is
fine by running depclean and then revdep-rebuild...

I've never seen such an error, so I have to go with gut feel:

 Here is the message on emerge:

Re: [gentoo-user] generating HFS+ isos

2008-09-22 Thread Andrey Vul
1) Stop the cdrtools vs cdrkit flamewar.
2) I meant HFS+ partition, not Apple extensions to UDF (i.e.
generating a dmg file that, for all intents and purposes, is
indistinguishable from one made in Disk Utility.app or whatever Macs
use to generate DMGs).
3) What I meant was, how to make a hfs *plus* hybrid cd, not hfs
*classic* hybrid cd.
I.e.
/
/foo
/foo/bar.app
/foo/bar.app/Icon\r
/foo/bar.app/qwertyasdf.mpkg
/foo/bar.app/qwertyasdf.mpkg/...
...
/foo/bar.exe
/readme.txt
with *.app, *.mpkg being in HFS+ and *.exe being in ISO9660/Joliet. I
know Toast does this with a fancy GUI, but I don't have the money for
a Mac nor the time to install Hackint0sh in VMware. I was asking if
cdr$foo (or any other *nix-compatible iso maker) does this by passing
a zillion -hide and -hide-hfs parameters (or via fancy GUI, I honestly
don't care)?

2008-09-22 Thread Denis
 Run python-updater.

 Cheers, Dave

That is pulling in two different versions of Samba into the tree:

 * Starting Python Updater from 2.4 to 2.5 :
 *   Adding to list: =net-analyzer/rrdtool-1.2.27
 *   Adding to list: =dev-python/python-fchksum-1.7.1
 *   Adding to list: =dev-python/pycairo-1.4.12
 *   Adding to list: =dev-python/numeric-24.2-r6
 *   Adding to list: =dev-python/pycrypto-2.0.1-r6
 *   Adding to list: =dev-python/pyopengl-2.0.0.44
 *   Adding to list: =dev-java/java-config-1.3.7
 *   Adding to list: =dev-java/java-config-2.1.6
 *   Adding to list: =net-fs/samba-3.0.28a-r1
 *   Adding to list: =gnome-extra/libgsf-1.14.7
 *   Adding to list: =sys-apps/file-4.23
 *   Adding to list: =media-libs/alsa-lib-1.0.16
 *   Adding to list: =media-libs/pdflib-7.0.2_p8
 *   Adding to list: =sys-libs/cracklib-2.8.12

Calculating dependencies -
!!! Multiple versions within a single package slot have been
!!! pulled into the dependency graph:

net-fs/samba:0

  ('ebuild', '/', 'net-fs/samba-3.0.28a-r1', 'merge') (no parents)

  ('ebuild', '/', 'net-fs/samba-3.0.32', 'merge') pulled in by
('installed', '/', 'net-print/cups-1.3.8-r1', 'nomerge')

So I tried masking net-fs/samba-3.0.28a-r1, but that wasn't productive.

Where would I go from here?

No wait - this worked. It was pulling in 2 Samba versions because
Samba was due for an update from the most recent emerge --sync. So
I updated Samba separately first, via emerge samba, and running
python-updater after that did not pull in any Samba.

Mission accomplished: emerge -NDavu world works fine now!

Many thanks,
Denis
