[gentoo-user] Filesize error downloading eigen-3.0.3
Hi, I am trying to install freecad which pulls in dev-cpp/eigen-3.0.3. I get a filesize error which prevents installation of eigen. Any clues on how to solve this problem? Keep in mind tho, if there is something wrong with the file, you get to keep the pieces. It will build/compile that even if it is altered somehow that it shouldn't be. Basically, that bypasses all the security portage has to make sure you get the right thing. Also, when you sync again, it will be reset to whatever is in the tree. This is temporary. I think the command is something like ebuild path-to-ebuild-including-version digest If you are not certain of the file, wait a while then sync again. If you are in a hurry, try to find the closest Gentoo server, which I would think would get updated the fastest, and sync with it. Hope this helps. [gentoo-ppc-user] -mabi=altivec in CFLAGS
Hi all, AFAIK, some packages (e.g., dev-cpp/eigen) can use AltiVec vectorization only when -mabi=altivec is specified in GCC flags. Is it safe to use -mabi=altivec in global CFLAGS in make.conf? Does anybody know if the system will perform better or worse in average? -- Regards, Konstantin

Haven't synced my tree in a few days, but it seems right according to packages.gentoo.org. Your two examples, sci-libs/vtk and media-libs/opencv, requires the older subslot version. These things tend to sort themselves out with world rebuilding, unless they really require something older. There probably is a tracker bug for ffmpeg 6 unmasking, where you could see if your packages are not supported for ffmpeg 6 yet. Regards, Arve

On 29/03/2014 01:05, Chris Stankevitz wrote: Hello, Can anyone tell me why portage is insisting on upgrading me from opencv-2.4.5 to opencv-2.4.8? It's not doing that. You need opencv as it's a dep for something, and portage wants you to have a version that's in the tree. The only stable version is 2.4.5 but you have masked that in package.mask So you have left portage no choice but to ask you to upgrade to a higher version, all of which are marked ~arch. Therefore portage is giving you the package.unmask entries to accomplish that and thereby asking you pretty please to make everything consistent again on your machine. Or you could remove that entry from package.mask and deal with what happens. I would not expect portage to want to do this because: 1. opencv-2.4.8 is unstable (and I run a stable system) 2. opencv-2.4.5 is masked Thank you, Chris = jane ~ # grep opencv /etc/portage/package.mask # 2014-03-13: Hold off on opencv upgrade media-libs/opencv-2.4.5 = jane ~ # emerge -Dauvt world These are the packages that would be merged, in reverse order: Calculating dependencies... done! I added them to make.conf some time back because portage complained about them, and if I comment them out, it complains again, like so: [snip] The following REQUIRED_USE flag constraints are unsatisfied: python? Howdy, I either started a thread on this a while back or it was mentioned inside another thread. This has been popping up for months now. Either I have something set wrong or there is a problem in a ebuild or something. I just don't know what. This is what I get. I'm having to use this command because it does update everything else. [gentoo-user] now in blocked packages hell. =\
I guess I deserve congratulations for graduating from useflag hell. Now I'm in blocked packages hell. I tried to cure it by uninstalling things but now I've hit two packages that I consider to be high-priority... though I've started using a windows 7 machine to access my cannon camera. Clearly, it is inconceivable that there is any possibility of updating any package on this system until these two packages are uninstalled. =\ I mean, simply isolating the conflicting part of the package tree and updating everything that isn't affected by those packages makes no sense whatsoever and is a computationally intractable problem tortoise ~ # ./pretendupdate These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done!
