Adrian,
I just found the problem. I went back in to follow your directions and when it
told me, "This untagged, 4-page document must be prepared for reading with
assistive technology., it ended up that it was set to read only the page
displayed and not the entire document. After I changed this, then all worked
well.
Thank you guys for your help. I have it saved now.

Kurt, let it complete the format processing, i.e., wait until JAWS stops
announcing percentage progress, then press the alt key to open the file menu.
Arrow down a few times until you hear "Save as." That will enable you to
download and save the file.

but it opens right up with making me tab to start the reading order. The
control page up and down does not work for me here. Do you have any other

Respected friends, I have red 5 emails regarding JAWS version confusion.
The matter of fact is that the latest version of JAWS 2018 is not on the
main page of freedomscientific’s main page.
For those of you who are saying that they are using the latest version of
JAWS 2018,
They should check if they are using JAWS 2018.1712.54 which was released on
January 4th 2018?
The latest version of JAWS 2018 which is available on the main page of
freedomscientific’s main page is JAWS 2018.1712.10 which was released on
December 12th 2017.
If you find out that you are using different version of JAWS 2018.1712.54
and if you are encountering the problem in using windows 10 mail app, then
do the following things.
1. Press INSERT+J to open the JAWS menu.
2. Select Help > About and press ENTER.
3. Navigate to “Special Update Code” and press ENTER.
4. Type in the following access code:

NO need to be quite so cynical, Dave!! Each version (as opposed to update)
does introduce a new feature of some kind. For example, 2018 dramatically
improves the installation process, gives greater range for OCR, and so on.

That said, JAWS 2018 doesn't work as well for me with IE11 and Outlook 2010,
and so I'm constantly switching between 2018 and the prior version 18. Dave,
I know you often go back as far as JAWS 16.
Are there always good, convincing reasons for an annual new version, other
than ensuring VFO has a nice revenue stream? Debatable. But I do have the
sense that many improvements occur behind the scenes as its software
engineers adapt to a changing Web. So by staying up to date with our SMAs,
we're probably paying for adjustments about which we know little or nothing.

They are just fixing bugs they created, and creating other new bugs. So if
the current version is not working to your liking, you update to the next
one, and have something else to complain about.

Makes no sense, but that's the world of software.

Each year, VFO releases a new version of JAWS with significant improvements,
or to use its word, enhancements. However, between user reports of problems
and ever-evolving technology, VFO must keep updating. These updates are
assigned numbers that begin with the current version, right now 2018.

covered that."

No. JAWS 2018, as others have said, is a completely different version from
JAWS 18. You need to install JAWS 2018 from your DVD and then check for
updates before you will be "up to date".

JAWS 2018 is not considered an update to JAWS 18. It's starts all over, and
you need to install it separately from JAWS 18. You can do this with the
2018 disc or by updating from the VFO website. If you install from the CD,
you'll need to update the way you do with JAWS 18, except you'll use the
JAWS 2018 menu system, or else (again) by going to the website

change pages to hear the whole thing. It is only a 4 page PDF.

Thanks for all help,

Hey Dennis.

Go to the program's executable with file explorer. In my case, it's
procexp64.exe. Alt-enter to open the properties dialog. Find the
compatibility tab. Ignore all the other settings. Just check the box that
says "run this programme as an administrator".

Hey.

Alright, I think Dennis was the only one following this topic. Anyway, I
can't explain it, which is how I feel much of the time about Windows 10,
possibly because Microsoft keeps screwing with it from one week to the next,
but Process Explorer is now running as task manager, in administrator mode.
As far as I know, I didn't do anything I hadn't done before. Maybe the
change just took a while to take effect. I don't recall if I had rebooted my
system before my last post about it not being able to kill certain processes
due to lack of permission. Well, it is, now. So everyone should feel good
about using it if they find ther Windows task manager to be excruciatingly
slow. Just check that "run as administrator" box, and possibly reboot, and
it should be good. I tested this with both ctrl-shift-esc and the menu
option from the windows-x menu in Windows 10.

I would actually call your service provider about this one, as I am

You'll need a licensed copy of Outlook, either included in an Office365
subscription or purchased as part of a Microsoft Office desktop license.

If you run it, you should be prompted to set up an account (i.e., to enter

4. Type in the following access code: 957395
5. Press Enter.
6. Navigate to the “OK” button and press ENTER.
7. Restart JAWS 2018.
8. Press INSERT+J to open the JAWS menu.
9. Select Help > Check for Updates.
10. When the “JAWS updates” dialog opens, press the SPACEBAR to select the
JAWS 2018.1712.54 update.
11. Navigate to the “Install” button and press ENTER to perform the update.
Remember one thing if you have repaired your JAWS 2018, then it will not
update and you will have to download the full version of JAWS 2018.1712.54.
For that purpose you need to click:

Kevin,

As Dave posted, you can navigate with F6. However, to switch conveniently
between a list of messages and the list of folders, I use tab and shift-tab.
Shift-tab takes you from the message list to the folders list, while tab does
the reverse. Like F6, continuous tabbing rotates you through various other
branches of Outlook 2010 before returning you to where you began.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws version confusion

2018-01-20 Thread Adrian Spratt
NO need to be quite so cynical, Dave!! Each version (as opposed to update) does
introduce a new feature of some kind. For example, 2018 dramatically improves
the installation process, gives greater range for OCR, and so on.

That said, JAWS 2018 doesn't work as well for me with IE11 and Outlook 2010,
and so I'm constantly switching between 2018 and the prior version 18. Dave, I
know you often go back as far as JAWS 16.
Are there always good, convincing reasons for an annual new version, other than
ensuring VFO has a nice revenue stream? Debatable. But I do have the sense that
many improvements occur behind the scenes as its software engineers adapt to a
changing Web. So by staying up to date with our SMAs, we're probably paying for
adjustments about which we know little or nothing.

They are just fixing bugs they created, and creating other new bugs. So if the
current version is not working to your liking, you update to the next one, and
have something else to complain about.

Makes no sense, but that's the world of software.

or to use its word, enhancements. However, between user reports of problems
and ever-evolving technology, VFO must keep updating. These updates are
assigned numbers that begin with the current version, right now 2018.

Gary,

You asked: "...I have installed all updates that jaws has told me about.
also received a jaws 2018 cd. just wondering if the updates I installed
covered that."

They are just fixing bugs they created, and creating other new bugs. So if
the current version is not working to your liking, you update to the next
one, and have something else to complain about.

Makes no sense, but that's the world of software.

detects if you are using jaws, probably other screen readers as well. Anyway
when it detects jaws a screen overlay is also displayed giving phone number
contact information for people with disabilities.
The other day I needed to call and asked Karen to bring up the page on her I

was. She since did a search and learned that it detects screen readers.
What great customer service.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Amazon.com and screen readers

2018-01-20 Thread Jim Fettgather

Here's why I had found that Amazon phone number to be helpful.
For several weeks I had been attempting to purchase a single edition of a
newspaper from the site.
The radio buttons were such that they would trigger prematurely, causing me
to purchase the incorrect edition.
For three weeks, I called that number, requested a refund for having
purchased the wrong newspaper, explained the problem as best I could, and
politely suggested, please please, this problem must be fixed.

It was fixed after my repeated phone calls.
Whenever accessibility is broken, This is not an ideal situation, but at
least they eventually fixed the problem with purchasing single edition
newspapers.

I found this to be quite interesting and helpful. The Amazon web site
detects if you are using jaws, probably other screen readers as well. Anyway
when it detects jaws a screen overlay is also displayed giving phone number
contact information for people with disabilities.
The other day I needed to call and asked Karen to bring up the page on her I
pad. She told me that there is no such number. I came upstairs and there it
was. She since did a search and learned that it detects screen readers.
What great customer service.

JAWS 2018 is not considered an update to JAWS 18. It's starts all over, and
you need to install it separately from JAWS 18. You can do this with the
2018 disc or by updating from the VFO website. If you install from the CD,

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws version confusion

2018-01-20 Thread Rick Justice
This is incorrect!
There is a big difference between and update, and an upgrade.
An update will have the same version number at the beginning, such as Jaws
18,
and upgrade will have a completely new number such as Jaws2018.
Updates to a particular version of Jaws are at no cost to the user,
since they tend to correct issues in that version.
however, upgrades do count against an SMA,
since they introduce a new version of the software typically with new
features.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws version confusion

2018-01-20 Thread Inam Uddin
Respected friends, I have red 5 emails regarding JAWS version confusion.
The matter of fact is that the latest version of JAWS 2018 is not on the main
page of freedomscientific’s main page.
For those of you who are saying that they are using the latest version of JAWS
2018,
They should check if they are using JAWS 2018.1712.54 which was released on
January 4th 2018?
The latest version of JAWS 2018 which is available on the main page of
freedomscientific’s main page is JAWS 2018.1712.10 which was released on
December 12th 2017.
If you find out that you are using different version of JAWS 2018.1712.54 and
if you are encountering the problem in using windows 10 mail app, then do the
following things.
1. Press INSERT+J to open the JAWS menu.
2. Select Help > About and press ENTER.
3. Navigate to “Special Update Code” and press ENTER.
4. Type in the following access code: 957395
5. Press Enter.
6. Navigate to the “OK” button and press ENTER.
7. Restart JAWS 2018.
8. Press INSERT+J to open the JAWS menu.
9. Select Help > Check for Updates.
10. When the “JAWS updates” dialog opens, press the SPACEBAR to select the JAWS
2018.1712.54 update.
11. Navigate to the “Install” button and press ENTER to perform the update.
Remember one thing if you have repaired your JAWS 2018, then it will not update
and you will have to download the full version of JAWS 2018.1712.54.
For that purpose you need to click:

Each year, VFO releases a new version of JAWS with significant improvements, or
to use its word, enhancements. However, between user reports of problems and
ever-evolving technology, VFO must keep updating. These updates are assigned
numbers that begin with the current version, right now 2018.
