[JAWS-Users] vlc

2018-03-19 Thread Justin Williams
I downloaded vlc, but the dvd and cd won't play. I've set vlc as default,
and when I try to plya the files, they won't play. It says audio tract or
video tract is not available.

I think that many of us would suggest VLC media player. It is very
accessible and best of all it is free and carries no bloatware or unexpected
advertising. It can be found at:

As far as I know, Windows media Player does not play DVDs out of the box. It
should play your CD though. Sorry, I don't use this program at all, so I
can't really offer any concrete suggestions. You could open media player
first, and then use its menus from within the program to choose to play the
CD. I don't think this will work for the DVD, though.

Hi Judy.

I'm not sure, but I think that person was possibly me. I suggested that
someone might have some unwanted background processes running on their
computer rather than a virus or malware that can be detected with a scan.
These can slow the machine down by taking up ram and processor time.

I realised when I posted the message to the list, that I might have opened a
small can o' worms. It used to be relatively easy to do this in, say,
Windows XP. But on my Windows 10 machine, there are so many processes
running all of the time, that it's very difficult to keep track of them, and
what they do. I consider myself a person of intermediate computer experience
and nowadays when I look at the task manager I feel a small headache coming
on at the prospect of looking up all these unknown processes on the
internet. However, as you have Windows 7, things might be a little easier. I
suggest opening the utility msconfig. You can do this from the run prompt.
>From there, you can go through items that run at startup. You should have a
tab called 'startup", which, if you select it, opens a list view where you
can select and de-select items. It might help you to look at task manager,
too, to see what processes are running and if there is something there that
doesn't need to be. Unfortunately, this might involve a good amount of
research on the internet to determine the nature of particular programs. So,
if you don't have some time on your hands, it can seem a daunting
proposition.

There are other utilities that can help you as well. Sysinternals suite
contains a number of such programs, and is available from the Microsoft
site. Most of these programs are not intended for everyday users, but a few
of them can still be useful. There is one called autoruns that lets you look
in-depth at everything your computer does at startup and lets you remove
items. Again though, it's easy to jump the gun and remove something that you
don't recognise or doesn't appear to be working, only to find that your
computer does, in fact, use it for something. So, be careful. If you want to
go further into this off-list, I'd be willing to help some, but I don't have
Windows 7, so my own experience wouldn't be the same as yours.

2018-03-19 Thread Cristóbal
As there are VFO folks on these lists, You wonder if they don't go about
reverse engineering this sale to figure out who was the rep that messed up if
in fact it was a mistake as it appears to be. I'm sure they've got to have some
sort of self-auditing type of system in place in general.
That's probably what I would do if for nothing else to figure out who needs a
bit more training or to be taken off of sales.

Hi All,

The other day I called VFO / Freedom Scientific to see if they had any new
financial plans for people that had gotten way behind because of financial
difficulties, & wanted to get upgraded / updated to the latest version.
Well, to my surprise what I found out was absolutely fantastic! A friend
needed to be updated because he was at Jaws 11 & he needed to be upgraded
to
be compatible with the Windows 7 system he is moving to from XP. Okay to
cut this short, I found out people can be upgraded from Jaws 11 to
Jaws2018
for $200.00. The lady I talked to was a Window Eyes transplanted employee
&
she didn't know how long this financial plan had been in place. So for
all
you that need to be upgraded but have financial difficulty, don't be
afraid
to call & inquire about new financial / payment plans! This $200.00 plan
is

This $200.00 plan
is

only for the Home versions.

Re: [JAWS-Users] programs running in the background

2018-03-19 Thread JM Casey

Hi, all, a week or so ago someone asked about their computer running slow
and someone sent a post describing how to check to see if there were
unnecessary programs running in the background that could be slowing things
down. Would that person please repost her information. I swear I thought I
kept it, but I must have deleted it. Thanks in advance. Judy & Libby

[JAWS-Users] a possible bug

2018-03-19 Thread anna vimini
No , but when I was down loading windows updates the other day a
security dialogue popped up and said that something was detected I do
not remember what it was but it went away a few seconds later and then
started to down load three windows updates and every thing worked fine.

so I do not know if it got rid of what ever it was or not.

I am assuming that it did because every thing seems to work fine.

[JAWS-Users] a possible bug
Since todays’ update things are not reading properly for me when I arrow
up, down or around for some strange reason.

I can’t explain it exactly how this thing is acting.

Does anybody have this issue with you’re respective systems.

Re: [JAWS-Users] survey monkey or other platform?

2018-03-19 Thread amcarr1
I've used Google Forms and Sheets to gather responses, and then exported the
data to Microsoft Excel. It is my understanding that over the past year,
there have been significant improvements with the accessibility of Google
apps. I have not confirmed this. They now offer e-mail support for
accessibility. I'm not able to put my hands on that e-mail information
right now, but if you can't find it, let the list know.

We do use Survey Monkey at work, but I have not been successful with being
the creator. I'm not sure if it is user error or lack of accessibility.
