[JAWS-Users] Say All pausing between lines
Hi all. I'm using the latest builds of both Jaws 2018 and Windows 10. Seemingly inexplicably, Say All has begun pausing between lines, even though I have tried it both reading by sentence and by line without pauses. It's almost as though whichever setting I choose, Say All reads with pauses. To attempt to remedy this, I performed a repair, then tried Say All using the alternate user directory; it read without pauses as I desire. I then deleted all my settings files except for my pronunciation dictionary and voice profiles, to allow Jaws to repopulate my settings directory. AftEr this, Say All again read without pauses as I desire. However, after I went through the entire settings tree, resetting everything to my preferences, the Say All reading with pauses regardless of setting returned. This forces me to ask if there is some hidden or obscure relationship between how Say All pauses and another setting that appears to have nothing to do with it. I'm inclined toward this reasoning because when I switch to the alternate user directory or delete my settings files, Say All behaves properly. Only after I configure my settings does the problem return. The question is: why? I realize that as a temporary fix, I could yet again delete my settings and this time not change any of the defaults. But then, punctuation, speech verbosity and so many other settings would not be configured to my taste. As another possibility, I will test tomorrow whether this behavior is also happening on my laptop. If it is not, I'll try copying my settings directory from my laptop to the problematic desktop. What do you all think? Has anyone ever experienced this strange Say All behavior of reading with line pauses regardless of setting? Re: [JAWS-Users] rar and zip app
Hi Holger, Here's a quick set of steps on unzipping files / folders: To unzip files or folders: 1. Highlight the file or folders you want to unzip. They can be both, .ZIP or .RAR files or, just 1 or the other. This program has the ability to unzip both types at the same time. 2. Press the applications / context menu key or, Shift + F10 to open the context menu. 3. Press, the #7 on the number row above the main keyboard or, arrow down to 7Zip & press enter. The first time you use the program you might want to arrow down the list to see what options the program has to offer. 4. A. if you are unzipping a single file / folder arrow down to, extract here, & press enter, and all the files will be extracted to that folder, but beware, they will be extracted as single files rather than being unzipped into a folder. Use the, Extract To *, option to have all files go into a folder of the same name without the, .Zip, extension. 4. B. When you are extracting multiple folders, press enter on the, Extract To *, option. This will extract all the folders into folders of the same name without the, .Zip, extension. Take care. Mike. Now, whenever I try to navigate a web page, I get a "clunk" sound whenever I encounter a link. The "clunk" sound is anoying in and of itself, but this new feature also seems to interfere at least somewhat with web page navigation. I find the problem with both Firefox 52, and the latest version of Internet Explorer. Can anyone tell me what might have changed, and how to fix the issue? Thanks as always! VFO blames Microsoft for changing the color pallet. This was broke after one of the mid JAWS 17 updates and I needed it in Excel for work. They said it was a high priority, but have not apparently figured out a fix yet. When you paste the download link into the email, the link will have a, =0, at the end of the link. Replace the, 0, with a, 1. If you leave the, 0, the link will open a download window on the Dropbox website making it a pain in the A** for the recipients, but if you put a, 1, at the end the recipients will download directly from your Dropbox folder, is the way I understand it anyways. Hi Justin, The free version only allows 2 GB of storage. You have to pay for the Pro version to get more, & the prices you'll have to get from the website. The more you pay the more storage you get. Hi Fernando, In the Ease of Access Center / Use the computer without a display, should only the running version of Jaws be checked, or should all installed versions of Jaws be checked? Thanks much. You can use scripts or group policies to disable UAC in Windows 10, but some things like some UWP apps and special shell extensions will not work properly, for a reason I don't know why. However, when you make changes in the UAC slider and press the OK button, a UAC confirmation will appear in a secure desktop, therefore JAWS will take a few seconds before speaking, and it could speak nothing if you have your current JAWS version disabled in the Ease of Access Center. When this dialog appear, simply answer the confirmation as any other UAC dialog. Although is less safe, you can also configure UAC to display confirmations in a window on your user's desktop instead of a secure one, so you don't need to wait until JAWS switches its response to the secure desktop. Hope it helps a bit! -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List On Behalf Of Mike B. Re: [JAWS-Users] W10 start menu
Hello Holger, You might want to check out your start menu settings. 1. Use Windows key with I. 2. Tab to a list of settings, use right arrow key to "Personalization" and press enter key. 3. Tab from the Search box to the list of settings for personalizing and use down arrow key to "Start. Press enter key. 4. Tab to the "Show app list in Start menu" and if its status is off then press enter key to turn on the option. It is just a toggle button that goes between the On and Off state. 5. Tab again to the "Show recently added apps" and if you want those showing at the top of the list that button should be in the On state. It is also a toggle between the on and off state for the option. Use spacebar to toggle between the two states for the button. Take care. Mike, I believe this is a JAWS question. The workaround is to press JAWS key+escape. VFO is a merger of Freedom Scientific, Inc. and Optelec. This occurred year before last. Since VFO has gobbled up a few more companies as well.
