Re: [JAWS-Users] High Importance E-mail
Hi Tom, The easiest way to add a keystroke for this is to add the item to the Quick Access Toolbar by opening a new message, finding in the Message tab the High Importance button, pressing APPLICATIONS or SHIFT+F10 and choosing Add to Quick Access Toolbar item. If you haven't added nor removed anything from the Quick Access Toolbar for the message editing window the High Importance button should be the fourth item, so it would be assigned to ALT+4. Since ALT+NUMBER keystrokes are assigned in JAWS for reading Outlook message headers, you will have to press JAWS+3 before using the abobe mentioned keystroke. Hope it helps! -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-ListOn Behalf Of Tom Behler Sent: Tuesday, May 1, 2018 4:16 PM To: 'Jaws users list' Subject: [JAWS-Users] High Importance E-mail Hello, everyone. Hi Orlando, I don't know what your definition of accessible is, but when I tried using CCleaner versions 5.41 & 5.42 I couldn't find what had been cleaned during the Windows cleaning, I couldn't shift + tab back to the Applications cleaning, & getting to the Registry clening option I wasn't going to trust since the other options wer acting quirky. This was with Windows 7 Pro, running J16, thru J2018 latest. This also happened with the portable versions of CCleaner 5.41 & 5.42. Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers! Sennt from my iBarstool. Re: [JAWS-Users] clicking on Outlook voting buttons with JAWS
Hi, I don't know what version of Outlook you are using or how far back the keyboard support for voting goes. My recollection is that this has worked for a while but I don't have access to older versions of Outlook to confirm. That said, I know for example Outlook 365 supports keyboard access, independent of screen reader, in at least two ways. 1. With the message closed but having focus on the message in the message list, press shift+F10 or the application key. One of the options in the resulting context menu will be Vote. Choose the option you want. 2. With the message open, press alt+h, followed by V. This will access the voting item on the Home ribbon. Use tab or arrows to move to the different options and press enter on the vote you want to choose. Please ensure all Windows updates, including Office updates, are installed and applied. If the issue persists at that point, please try running JAWS in the factory default mode to determine if the issue still occurs. To do this, press INSERT+SPACE followed by Z. This keystroke is a toggle, so pressing it again will disable default mode when finished. If the issue does not occur when running JAWS in default mode, you will need to remove user settings. To do this: 1. If using Windows 7: A. Navigate to Start>All Programs>JAWS (version number)>Explore JAWS>Explore My Settings. B. Highlight all the files in this folder and delete them. 2. If using Windows 8 or above: A. Navigate to your Start screen, type the word "utilities", and select the Utilities option populated for the version number being used. B. Select the option for Explore User Settings. C. Highlight all files in this folder and delete them. If the issue still occurs when running it in Default mode, please run a /type repair on JAWS, as follows: 1. Navigate to the JAWS 2018 installer file. If you don't have it, you may download it from http://www.freedomscientific.com/Downloads/JAWS 2. With the file highlighted, press SHIFT+F10, or hold down the SHIFT key and right click it. 3. Select the option that says "Copy as Path". 4. Press WINDOWS+R to invoke the Run dialog. 5. In the edit field, press CTRL+V to paste the path, then a space at the end of this string. 6. Write the following text exactly (excluding the quotes): "/type repair" 7. Press ENTER or click OK. At the end of the repair, JAWS will prompt you to reboot the machine. I had successfully upgraded my Windows 10 Home computer a few months ago to Windows 10 1709 without the Windows Update Assistant. So when I tried running the Windows Update Assistant several times, I received the message that it had failed because of a program not being compatible with Windows 10. The incompatible program was Magic and that I needed to manually uninstall it. The only program I could think of is the Freedom Scientific screen magnification program named Magic. I had installed Magic version 12 3 or so years ago, when this computer was running Windows 7, to see how to set it up for a friend of mine. I know that Magic version 12 is incompatible with Windows 10. So I uninstalled it and was later successful in installing Windows 10 and then upgrading to Windows 10 1703. I had written to Freedom Scientific about this, but did not receive any reply other than the automated message saying my email had been received. So last week, I tried running the Windows10 Update Assistant after uninstalling JAWS 18 and JAWS2018and shared components. I did not receive any messages about incompatible programs. But since the Windows 10 Update Assistant runs for hours, I saw that it had reached 99% completed when I went to bed. But in the morning I discovered that the computer had rebooted and the Windows Update Assistant was gone. I'm trying to run it again today. So is there any other way to get and install Windows 10 1709 or steps to make the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant run successfully? Thank you in advance. [JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader Program. So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better with scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we all know works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain task or want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently. Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It creates a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal place I am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no matter how new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the confidence to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the list will be there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help is quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than first. So try it yourself first whatever it is. If you get stuck then let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your current dilemma. Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if there is a software package that does a specific task and works well with JAWS is perfectly fine. The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of Freedom Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then take it up with Freedom Scientific directly. Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible. Signatures and tag lines should not be more than a couple of sentences, three or four at the most. If you wish to include a tag line, don't make another message of it. Placing anything else in there simply increases the bandwidth required to handle the posted message and make it more work for a person who wishes to follow the given thread back to review previous messages, as they have to plow down past an overly long signature. Also please place your message above your signature line so as not to force people to read it before they get to your message. Also any newsletters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not be posted to the list prior to receiving moderator approval. Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done for your protection. The message list might state that there is an attachment but in fact Mailman does remove them. When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply delete messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are over 700 subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on here. Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines, then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions that are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not receive an answer for a number of reasons. Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list. Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you may receive an email from the server asking you to reactivate your account. Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and follow the directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after receiving a number of such messages then the server will remove your email address automatically. The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with flirting or other such inappropriate activities. This is not a high tech swap shop or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or services will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given subject is off topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the subject line does not make it all right. Posting to a single address IE this list is the preferred acceptable practice as we do not allow cross posting. That is simply posting to more than one list or address in the same message. You can post the same message to multiple list, but not at the same time. Now to the matter of replying to a posted message: The proper practice is to simply hit the reply command in your respective email client, IE control + R is used quite often in many programs. Replying to all, for example control + shift + R in Windows Live Mail will only serve to get your message flagged by the server for having too many recipients. Then at that point your message gets held for one of us to accept or
