Subject: [JAWS-Users] Unable to authorize Jaws 2018 on a newly acquired
laptop

Yesterday I got my hands on a Toshiba laptop pc running Windows 8.1, but I
have now updated the pc to the latest Windows 10 fall creator's update.
However, after I installed Jaws 2018 from a DVd, I am now being asked to
enter an authorization number which I cannot find in my saved e-mail from
last June. I called VFO over an hour ago and left my phone number for a
call back. I know that VFO tech support is likely busy, but are they so
busy that I can't get a call back in less than an hour? Really? There are
certain programs I cannot install because Jaws keeps telling me that I have
the professional version which I do not. How on earth do I get an
authorization code? I'm sorry, but this situation is very frustrating. I
had to end a call with the Microsoft Disability Answer Desk because I am
unable to get the 2018 version of Jaws authorized. Incidentally, I got the
pc from my sister because she seldom used. It.

Sincerely,

Hi Brian I tried all of that but word would not recognize the Greek, after
some lengthy research on the internet and a call to Microsoft accessibility
it turns out that the file I have to run is proofing tools_el-gr_86.exe.
It does work now however it's not the greatest spell check. I think I'm
going to invest in getting a whole language pack I think it's 24 bucks, and
that isn't to bad. The language pack I have for 2010 works much better then
this free tool they offer. Thanks for trying to help.

Hello Zoe,

In Word 2013 you can set the default proofing language. Use Alt key
followed by R to get to the review tab of the ribbon. Tab to Language
submenu and press enter key. Set Proofing Language is one of the two items
in this submenu. Choose the Set Proofing Language. In the dialog box that
appears there is a checkbox for detecting language automatically and a Set
as Default button. Make sure that English United States is selected in the
list of languages before using the Set as Default button.

I don't have the earlier messages in this thread, so hopefully, this is what
you are needing.

Take care.

told me to accept the licence I checked the box clicked continue and it told
me I'm all most there I need to restart word. I did this but it doesn't
work.
I purposely typed in Greek miss spelled words.
I click f7 and word tells me the spelling and grammer is complete you are
good to go. The only option it gives me is ok.
Any ideas? Is there maybe some setting I have to change in word?

This is from Inthane's grab bag of windows 7 amazing things:

 tentive instructions:
go into control panel, tab to appearances and personalization, and enter
 on it.
now tab to task bar and start menu. and enter on it.
now control tab to start menu tab, go to customize, scroll down to

display as a link check display as a menu. You will get a list of
 control menu items.

Doug,

I might be in on this late.

How do you arrive at the conclusion that you are sending attachments? The
reason I am asking is that some anti-virus programs sometimes indicate that
email messages have attachments when they in fact do not. So, that gives
rise to the question of what anti-virus program you are using? I recall
this was an issue with earlier versions of AVG.

 Windows7

 Hello all,
I wish to bring this to your attention. After installing JAWS on a
Windows 7 computer, you may experience problems authorizing using a
dongle, for example Windows installed the drivers, but JAWS fails to see
 the dongle.
Here's how to solve this problem:
 1. When Action Centre notifies you to solve PC issues, click on the
 icon in the notification area.
 2. Click solve a problem in the Action Centre window.
 3. Click view message on the next screen.
 4. You will be told that Sentinel Super USB Pro/Ultra Pro stopped
working correctly. Follow the instructions that appears, including
 installing the driver update.
 5. Reboot the computer when prompted.
JAWS should now correctly see the dongle and thus it will be activated.
I really hope this would be on the technical support pages of Freedom
Scientific. This is why I am bringing this to your attention.
   From Chris.

Your computer has one of the best calculators built into it that you could
ever want. You have to use the numpad, so you'll have to turn num-lock
on.

With Jaws it's turned off.
Insert H will give you a list of all the hotkeys.

what, that's strange. what version are you using? did you recently update
from a previous version. Personally, with programs like that produced by
sighted people, if everything works correctly and the way I want it in a
current version, I don't update just in case something doesn't read or
 work
anymore the way it did in the previous version.
However, if I am told of significant bug fixes or something that will help
me use it, then I will update.
with adaptive technology however, I update every chance I can for obvious
reasons some of which are because it is produced with blind people in
 mind,
and usually with significant improvements which will make using it in
conjunction with other programs or just on its own will be a much better
experience. examples are jaws and the victor reader stream firmware.
Good luck with solving your problem, I hope everything works for you soon.

What! This is actually part of the JAWS scripts for Windows Live, and not
Messenger Plus itself. To prove it, load another screen reader and see
 what
happens. With NVDA, for example, I don't hear any typing sounds, but I
 hear
 messages coming in and out.

The messenger plus is an add on to windows live messenger, not a stand

messenger and not an official add on though.
I have it installed and it does automatically read the text messages as
 they
come in. Also it will announce 'so and so ist typing a message', and this
 is
 accompanied with some ticking sounds.

I got the same message today. I'm on Road Runner, so who knows what is
happening on this crazy thing we call the Internet. Of course, now the
 kids
are out of school which means even more folks on the Internet.

 Good luck to us all.

My messages have apparently been bouncing. I wondered why I would go
 several
days with no messages, and then they would start coming again. I use
comcast, and I'm wondering if anyone else using comcast experiences this.
 I
have nothing filtered and no blocks or anything like that, so I can't
 figure
out what's going on. Write me off-list if you think you have an idea.
 Thanks.

 Subject: [JAWS-Users] windows live messenger

 hello all.

i'm running windows live messenger with jaws 7...and i have a couple of
questions that maybe i can have some help with?

firstly, i'm trying to make it so that when someone is typing, you can
 hear
a clicking sound. it works on my windows messenger (but that's no good)
 as
it keeps crashing. my verbosity is all set fine, but it won't work for
 me.

my other question, is how do i make jaws read the screen?. i know, when
 you
go to add someone to the conversation etc, jaws won't read the names of
 the
 contacts.

thanks in advance for any help

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Is Kaspersky anti-virus accessible?

I was reading some reviews of anti-virus programs at this site:
 http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/
They put Avast down at number 13, which is a bit worrying to me. I don't
know who published the reviews and how reliable they are, but they list
Kaspersky as their second choice, and a friend of mine has found it
especially good at protecting against web pages that do phishing, and
 other nasty things.

Does anyone use Kaspersky with JAWS? Is it workable?

 I don't think there's a free version of it.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Turning off Jaws speech

 Hi Everyone:

Is there a Jaws keyboard command that will temporarily silence Jaws
speech, without having to unload the program? For example, if I am going
to record something directly from the sound card and I don't want to
accidentally have any Jaws speech on the recording, then I would want to
silence the speech just before I hit the key to start the recording.

I am using Jaws 6.2. I have looked through the help files and did some
Google searches, with no success. I know that if it is possible, then
someone on this list will have the answer.

 Thanks,
 John
