Thanks for posting these instructions for eliminating the back stage view in
Word 2016.

Like others on the list, I had to do this when I first installed Office 365
on my current Windows 7 laptop, but couldn't remember enough about how to
do it to send instructions to Miriam.

I'm going to save these instructions for future reference, because I plan to
purchase a new computer shortly with the Windows 10 operating system, and
will have to install Office 365 from Scratch.

Miriam,

It sounds as though someone created a "message rule" for your email so that
it goes to that defective folder. You can delete that rule. Try the
following:

Place focus in a message list next to a message where your name is in the
"To" line.

Press the applications key, which is between the right-hand Windows and
control keys.

Arrow down to "Rules submenu." Press enter.

Tab until you hear "Manage rules and alerts..." Press the spacebar here.

Tab again until you hear "Delete." Once again, press the spacebar.

I just went through these steps to make sure they work. However, since I
don't want to remove any of my existing rules, I couldn't go further. I
suggest you keep tabbing from there in case there's an "Apply" button. If
there is, press the spacebar on it. either way, resume tabbing to the Okay
button.

I hope you can follow these steps and that they solve this part of your
email problem.

David,

I would certainly appreciate some help. Let me first explain where I am at
this point.

There are 2 messages in my inbox that would have ordinarily have gone to my
, to Miriam, folder. So perhaps I solved that problem. I'm not sure.

When I attempted to follow your directions for getting directly to a word
document, the file menu would not open with alt F. I did eventually get a
new document to open, but just by tabbing around. I didn't even get to
anything that said, "open new document".

I can't access all of the emails that are still in my "to Miriam" folder.

I would appreciate your help. I live on Long Island. I'm 80 years old. My
hearing isn't that great and I'm not good at this stuff. But I would be
happy to call you, or you can call me, if that's convenient. If you send me

Miriam,

It sounds as though someone created a "message rule" for your email so that it
goes to that defective folder. You can delete that rule. Try the
following:

Place focus in a message list next to a message where your name is in the "To"
line.

Press the applications key, which is between the right-hand Windows and control
keys.

Arrow down to "Rules submenu." Press enter.

Tab until you hear "Manage rules and alerts..." Press the spacebar here.

Tab again until you hear "Delete." Once again, press the spacebar.

I just went through these steps to make sure they work. However, since I don't
want to remove any of my existing rules, I couldn't go further. I suggest you
keep tabbing from there in case there's an "Apply" button. If there is, press
the spacebar on it. either way, resume tabbing to the Okay button.

I hope you can follow these steps and that they solve this part of your email
problem.

Hi Miriam,
Not sure about your many issues but the multiple copies of emails is not
Outlook's fault.
That is something happening with your email provider. I would call their
tech support and ask them to help with your receiving multiple copies of
emails.
Also, do you know the difference between your email being set up as iMap or
POP3? By default Outlook likes to set up nowadays as iMap and if you do not
have your email on a cell phone you should be using POP3. Ask your email
provider about that as well. Also ask them to help you set your Outlook to
delete messages off their server once downloaded.

Hi Miriam,
Not sure about your many issues but the multiple copies of emails is not
Outlook's fault.

George,

Someone set up the "to Miriam" folder for me. The new emails sent directly
to me are all going there directly. But emails coming to me through email
lists that I'm on, are arriving in the inbox. This has always been the setup
I've had. The problem is that the "to Miriam" folder won't work. When I go
to it, it closes Outlook. Before Microsoft Disabilities worked on the
problem, the inbox didn't work either.

I was listening to Jaws while the disabilities tech was setting things up
and I'm sure I heard pop 3. As for my internet service provider, that is
Optimum and they are infamously unhelpful. But I will say that the last time
I had multiple copies, I was using Outlook 2003, which I loved, and the
multiple copies were a sign that it was corrupted. Since Microsoft no longer
supported office 2003, I had to change to office 365. I would have stayed
with 2003 forever if I could have.

Well, Outlook is a mess. I have multiple copies of the same message some of
the time, I can't get to the emails sent to the, "to Miriam", folder, I
can't address emails unless I have the email address stored in a word
document which I've kept with some addresses or if I can steal an address
from an email list. If someone can figure this out and help, I'd love it. I
don't do all that well with technology. I'm old. My hearing isn't great. I
had a young sighted person here with me on Friday which made dealing with
Microsoft easier, but there were 2 calls with 2 different people and it
took hours! And in the end, only one piece of the problem was fixed.

Miriam, no, the problem isn't with JAWS 18, at least none of the ones you
identify. I'm also using Outlook 2016, along with Windows 7.
I have bad experiences with Microsoft Disability support, unless the problem
turns out to be really simple, in which case I don't need them! I'll only
call them as a last resort, and even then I've had to find someone else to

I'm wondering if there is a problem with Jaws 18 and Outlook 2016 because
the Microsoft disabilities tech person thought that this might be causing my
difficulty. Outlook stopped functioning. When I called, the first person set
up a new profile in Outlook, whatever that is. But then the problem
actdually persisted. Outlook would open, begin to work, and then stop
functioning. I called again. The second tech person replaced all of office
365, promising that all the settings would remain the same. They didn't. But
the other problem is that everything worked except the, "to Miriam", folder
to which all my important emails go. That one continues to close. I asked
him to remove that folder for me and set things up so that everything goes
to the inbox, but he refused. Also, I can't address emails. Auto complete
doesn't work properly and unrelated email addresses appear, even if I just
try to write in an address. I managed to get to the address book one time,
but couldn't use it to address an email. I'm sending this because I can
read emails from my inbox and use one of the email addresses from that.
Microsoft is having someone from a higher level call back on Monday. Before
that happens, I want to know if anyone who is still using Jaws 18 and is
using Outlook 2016 has had a similar problem.

Hi Miriam,
Not sure about your many issues but the multiple copies of emails is not
Outlook's fault.

Hi Miriam,
I am using Windows 10, Office 365 and JAWS18.
I had a somewhat similar issue but it was caused by the fact that I had a
new computer and ended up on Dell's 90day free trial of Office Suite. It
was terrible until I discovered that my Office 365 was not installed. Once
we got that fixed things are working "normal" in my Outlook 2016.
BTW-When I called Microsoft Accessibility line the tech solved HALF of my
problem but not the rest. That is not altogether uncommon there. Then I
called COX, my ISP provider where I pay for tech help, and that guy though
willing solved nothing. Finally my son and I figured out the remaining
issues and now all is well.

Hello to the list.

On two different computers running the latest Jaws 18 and Outlook 2016, I
have noticed that when pressing enter to open a message, jaws will begin to
prematurely read the message, and then interrupt itself with "Message has 13
links", and then either continue to read the message, or, start back at the
beginning.

This seems to happen about 70% of the time.

I have turned off all panes, the reading pane, preview pane, all other panes
that I can find in Outlook.

This behavior does not seem to occur in Outlook 2013, but is very
distracting in outlook 2016.

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this same behavior?

Thanks a lot.

So, what kind of add-ins would Outlook have? To my knowledge I have never
added anything to Outlook 2010. I have considered upgrading to 365 2016 but
based on some things I read hesitate to do so, including the fact that I
might lose all my contacts, completions etc. I would like to add my Google

disk drive died and everything was reconfigured by repair person. I get
that mail via my iPhone but would prefer to be able to answer any of it on

Hello;
Not sure if this will help,
But it may be worth giving it a try.

In case you need to troubleshoot Outlook, it is a good idea to load Outlook
without loading any 3rd party Outlook add-ins. This article explains just
how to do it.

Among other culprits, Outlook add-ins are the usual suspect when Outlook
runs slow or triggers unexpected errors. To determine if the installed
add-ins are causing you problems, the easiest thing to do is to start
Outlook with no add-ins.

Outlook command line switch for add-ins

In order to load Outlook without add-ins, you have to exit Outlook and type
the following command in a RUN window or in a Windows command prompt:

Outlook /safe:3

Please note that, while the above command will cause Outlook to load with no
add-ins, the add-ins are still going to be displayed in the Add-in Manager
window.

Might I ponder here on your situation, Matthew, Please. I did not up-grade
from within Windows 07, instead bought new, no big deal. The big deal was
transferring and then Outlook-Complete office Word and E-mail. Confirming
was a issue as the person forgot to get the key. Forced to get Microsoft
Outlook 2016 Complete with Office with Word and e-mail. They laid over-top
of 2013 Outlook.. I had, would not say major issues but for sure issues.
Anything from Jaws not talking to dying. I went to the Microsoft Handicap,
explained and they removed all traces of outlook that of 2013 and 2016. Then
after making sure all was removed, reinstalled my License copy of 2016 and
since then I have had no issues. Might this be a issue with you? All three
folders of mine work just fine!

Jaws locked up big time. I had to shut down and restart, came back fine and
trial and error, I did another word document and using F7 for spelling again
and closed out, Jaws was fine. Not sure what and why that happen. Like you
using the latest of Jaws 18 and Windows Ten.

Hello;

Please note that, while the above command will cause Outlook to load with no
add-ins, the add-ins are still going to be displayed in the Add-in Manager
window.

transferring and then Outlook-Complete office Word and E-mail. Confirming

Anything from Jaws not talking to dying. I went to the Microsoft Handicap,

Does anyone have any suggestions?

the list of folders under my mailbox.

I can certainly move to them using the Control Y command, but if I say shift
tab back to the tree list of folders, Jaws doesn't read them but they are
visually showing up and when I review the view options, the folder list has
been ticked.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thomas

[JAWS-Users] Jaws 18 and Outlook 2016 on Windows 10

2016-11-05 Thread Thomas Bryan
Hi,

Well I updated Jaws the other day and all went well and Outlook was running
fine.
However, I now have changed something in Jaws or outlook and Jaws wont read
the list of folders under my mailbox.

I can certainly move to them using the Control Y command, but if I say shift
tab back to the tree list of folders, Jaws doesn't read them but they are
visually showing up and when I review the view options, the folder list has
been ticked.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thomas
