Hi Ilmari,

thank you for the link.

I can see that you have changed "label from Fakes to Simulated captions".

That makes sense, thank you

Let's wait for Webate update

Sorry, I quoted the help page incorrectly. The help page does not
currently mention that there is a check for simulated *captions*.

I have submitted a change to the string:
https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/156238

See the code for the checking logic:
https://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/core/sw/source/core/access/AccessibilityCheck.cxx?r=8386d8e5#978

To see the string in the UI, open the accessibility sidebar panel.
Type text that starts with Caption, Illustration, Table, Text, Drawing
or Figure

Immediately insert an image.

Now you should see "Fakes" in the sidebar (without my patch).

The check also works, if the image is anchored to the paragraph with
the text.

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Fakes

2023-08-28 Thread Milos Sramek

Hi Ilmari,
thank you for the hint, I did not know about such tool.

I've tested it and it does not work as you write. If I manually add
numbered paragraphs, I get there a "Numbering" issue, not "Fakes" issue.
So I tried to add an unordered list using "-" hoping to get "Fakes", but
I did not get any issue.

"Fakes", however, is a possibility in a11ycheckissuespanel.ui, so there
must be a different reason - perhaps one should check directly the LO
code to see.

Maybe that this feature is unfinished yet and it will improve later

[libreoffice-l10n] Support for a new feature in weblate

2022-07-15 Thread Milos Sramek

Hi,

would it be possible to somehow support development of a new feature in
weblate by the TDF?

Specifically, this one: https://github.com/WeblateOrg/weblate/issues/4368

When translating, I usually use Automatic suggestions. These are sorted
by similarity. If similarity is higher than 90%, a string is usually
usable, but I still need to know where the difference is. It would be
great if these differences were highlighted. Currently I have to compare
the English string and source of the suggestion visually, which is quite
cumbersome and slow.

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Bulk translation of new " stock" strings

2021-01-25 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi,
I have translated these off-line using the potrans.py script available
at https://github.com/milossramek/translation-scripts (the weblate
subdirectory), it took maybe 20 minutes (500 strings)

the workflow:
1. get the script and configure your environment (described in
documentation)
2. download translation files to a local repository: "./potrans.py -p ui
download"
3. export untranslated to csv: "./potrans.py -p ui -u export >
untranslated.csv"  (without the -u switch all strings are exported)
4. translate the csv in libreoffice, save as translated.csv (sort the
table according the column Source, translation of numerous identical
strings is then very fast. Not all string need be translated this way)
5. import to the local repository: "./potrans.py -p ui -c translated.csv
import"
5a. Check what has changed in the repository: "./potrans.py -p ui diff"
6. upload to the server "./potrans.py -p ui upload"

I am currently its only user and I would appreciate your comments :), thanks
Milos

[libreoffice-l10n] Rendering of translated LO dialogs

2020-11-17 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi,

one problem of using such tools as Weblate is that only limited
information about context is available.

I have written two scripts which may help, they are available here:
https://github.com/milossramek/translation-scripts/tree/master/weblate:

potrans.py enables easy to use local translation of LO po files
(download and upload of files from/to Weblate, import of translations
from csv files)

diagtrans.py renders translated dialogs

Their documentation is quite long, I  will be glad to answer your questions.

The scripts were developed in a Linux environment, they probably do not
run on Windows. If somebody helps here...

Enjoy

Milos

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Untranslated buttons

2020-10-01 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi,
thank you, this was the reason.

I do not use localized Desktop. To test, I've installed Slovak Desktop
localization, to see if another user using localized Desktop can see the
LO buttons translated correctly - yes, he can.

Now the LO buttons are correctly translated even though I still have
desktop in English.

So, installation of Desktop translation to Slovak solved the problem.

Thanks again,

Some buttons in dialogs, namely Revert, Apply, Cancel, Help (maybe

In some dialogs  Reset (e.g. in Tools > Modify) is translated.

This problem has a quite long history (LO 6.4)

Is it a known bug? Or, should I report it in Bugzilla?

[libreoffice-l10n] transfer of extended tooltips

2020-09-14 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi,

In order to check correctness of translation of the extended tooltips it
would be nice to have a list of dialogs for which the tooltips have
already been transferred.

Now, if I want to check correctness of the translations, I just randomly
select a dialog to see if it has tooltips. I would like to do that in a
systematic way - a list might help here.

What would help even more is to display a dialog with translated strings
in glade. Is that possible? If yes, how to do that?

thanks

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Large increase in translation strings

Hi,
yes, we poor guys who do not have Help translated get now hundreds of

To translate them I use the ImTranslator extension (on firefox, but I

It speeds up translation significantly

[libreoffice-l10n] Translation of extended tooltips

2020-08-18 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi,

maybe that you have already noticed - strings of extended tooltips
started to appear in the UI strings, there are currently 170 of them.
Originally, they were a part of the help files, where they were marked
by the tag. There are currently 6000+ extended tooltips there.

This means that their translations need to to be transferred from the
help files to the UI files (I exclude the option to translate them again).

Maybe the developers will solve this somehow.

Meanwhile I have written a script etiptrans.py which can do that. Its
usage is as simple as this 4 commands

    etiptrans.py -p ui -l sk download

    etiptrans.py -p help -l sk download

    etiptrans.py -p ui -l sk transfer

    etiptrans.py -p ui -l sk upload

The required access key is taken from an environment variable. It runs
in Linux environment, I think that the Windows 10 Linux environment is
also OK.

The script can do a little more, like checking which files were modified
or what has been changed. It can also transfer  tips from UI to help -
if you already have translated them in UI, but they are not translated
in help. If you want to translate locally (by poedit or so), the script
can help in downloading and uploading files.

It can be used individually for each language by individual translators,
but perhaps also for all languages by somebody who has the required rights.

Do we have a place where to put it, so that anybody can download it?. It
is finished, but needs more testing.  I have to write some documentation

best

Milos

2020-08-12 Thread Milos Sramek
Thank you Mike,
its clear now, I will try to translate the strings in a similar cryptic way.

For the others: The inspector does not display correctly yet (in the dev
version), this is how it should look like: https://imgur.com/xu2Wvh2

Re: Fwd: [libreoffice-l10n] Unclear new strings to translate

2020-08-12 Thread Milos Sramek
I can see there only two items in Style Inspector sidebar deck in Writer
(in the dev version)
Font name
Font size

In the file inspectorproperties.hrc there is
"Char Font Name"
but no
"Char Font Size"

Maybe that this feature is not finished yet.
I will ask on the developer's list

Re: Fwd: [libreoffice-l10n] Unclear new strings to translate

2020-08-12 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi,
I've checked the code. These strings are defined in file
./sw/inc/inspectorproperties.hrc:

#define NC_(Context, String) reinterpret_cast(Context
"\004" u8##String)

/*
Description: API names for Paragraph, Character
    and Text cursor properties
 */

// Format names
#define RID_BORDER_DISTANCE
NC_("RID_ATTRIBUTE_NAMES_MAP", "Border Distance")
#define RID_BOTTOM_BORDER
NC_("RID_ATTRIBUTE_NAMES_MAP", "Bottom Border")
#define RID_BOTTOM_BORDER_DISTANCE
NC_("RID_ATTRIBUTE_NAMES_MAP", "Bottom Border Distance")

(217 of them)

Is it sure that a user can see these strings somewhere in a translated form?

If yes, then we need to know structure of these strings (they do not
seem to be sentences) and how are they presented, since many of them
have 'cryptic" form like

Fill Bitmap Rectangle Point
Char Interoperability Grab Bag
Char Weight Complex

[libreoffice-l10n] Unclear new strings to translate

2020-08-09 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi,

there are numerous new strings to translate now, many of which are
unclear. I am not sure if they should be translated at all. Aren't these
unfinished work by the GSOC guys? In this case their mentors should
check also these strings.

Milos

For example:

in master
/sw/messages

(maybe 200 of this kind):

Char Font Style Name Complex

Fill Bitmap Rectangle Point

Para Auto Style Name

Style Interop Grab Bag

master
/cui/messages:

ProgressLabel

This label shows that the progress of the operations such as loading
extensions, not found, etc.

[libreoffice-l10n] Suggestion for workflow modification : a new directory "Prepared for translation" with "cleaned" files

2020-08-06 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi,

document 'cleaning' has been mentioned recently in several threads. It
is a necessary step for subsequent translation of the guides to
different languages. As it  is currently done 'on request', I suggest to
add cleaning as a compulsory step to the workflow (described here:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/DocumentationTeamInfo/UsingAuthorsWebsite).

Currently I put the cleaned files here:
https://nextcloud.documentfoundation.org/index.php/apps/files?dir=/Shared/SK%20community/Cleaned.
Probably nobody knows about them.

What is cleaning about:

For translation we use the OmegaT tool, which extracts strings for
translation directly from the document's xml. This means that the
character formatting tags are visible for her/him (tags in OmegaT are
abbreviated to ... or similar). Usually there are too many
useless tags (tags seem to remain in the code forever, even if
formatting is removed), which complicates the translation process (too
many tags, words split by tags to pieces etc). In cleaning all direct
character formatting is removed (by a python script) which decreases the
amount of tags to the necessary minimum.

My suggestion:

Add an additional step in the workflow after "Published" (after it in
order to not to change to current authoring workflow) by adding a new
directory "Prepared for translation". From there (1) a translator would
take documents for translation and (2) these documents would be used to
start a new version of the given Guide.

Who will do that:

I volunteer to take care of the cleaning process. I will also create a
guide, how to do that and also will place the script to the nextcloud,
so that eventually somebody else can do that. As a part of the cleaning
process one has to visually check the documents and change eventual
direct formatting to the an appropriate character style.

thanks for consideration

Milos

Yes, you're right. I've explored the weblate page thoroughly again, and
there is nothing related to web page.

[libreoffice-l10n] Localization of LibreOffice online

2020-02-26 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi,

do we have access to a LOOL instance with the most recent localizations?

I have access to LOOL of the documentation team at
https://nextcloud.documentfoundation.org. There, the main window is
localized to Slovak, but popups and the side panel are not. If I switch
my language to Czech, everything is localized.

I think that LOOL localization to Slovak is complete (except for the
help). Thus, maybe that this server does not run the up-to-date version
or there is a problem somewhere.

[libreoffice-l10n] The "Source change" field

2020-02-24 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi,

I've noticed a new field in Weblate, "Source change".

It looks more like a bug than a feature.

Example:

According to the Source field the string #199 of the file
loleaflet/po/help-sk.po
(https://weblate.documentfoundation.org/translate/libo_online/loleaflet-help/sk/?checksum=2f877fa93036e8bd)
has been changed from "Cell formatting" to "Collaborative editing"

This does not make sense to me. Is it OK?

[libreoffice-l10n] web page translation

2020-01-24 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi,

I've translated the LO web page to Slovak: sk.libreoffice.com, but some
parts are still in English: https://sk.libreoffice.org/download/download/

Some of these strings, as e.g. "If you're a technology enthusiast..."
can be translated in Pootle/webpage. I have translated them just
recently, so they probably must be transferred  somewhere.

Can somebody help with that?

Other strings, as e.g "This version is slightly older and does not
have..." cannot be found in Pootle. How to translate them?

thanks

Milos

[libreoffice-l10n] How to improve Help translation using vocabulary

2019-12-13 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi,

In translation of the Help (and also the Tip-od-the-day strings) one
often needs to look up translation of UI strings. There are two options
how to do that: open LO and find the string there, and to search for the
string directly in Weblate. Both are cumbersome.

There seems to be a third option.

The LO manuals are translated using OmegaT. There, one can upload UI
translation to its vocabulary and OmegaT then highlights matches
directly in the translated text - one can choose the right one by mouse
click. This is very efficient and it ensures that the translations are
correct.

I think that something similar can be achieved also in Weblate. I have
imported 16000 string pairs in vocabulary (there was no problem with
that) and when translating a string, I get a list of suggestions I can
choose from. For example, when translating the string

/To start temporarily with a fresh user profile, or to restore a
non-working %PRODUCTNAME, useHelp > Restart in Safe Mode/.

I can find there translation of /Restart in Safe Mode/. I can transfer
its translation to the editor by a mouse click.

The problem here is that the algorithm behind vocabulary is very simple
- it finds occurrences of each word in the translated string in all
vocabulary entries. Thus for the string above I get 2000+ suggestions. I
can find the right translation by searching in the browser for the
source string. This is not optimal, but still better then the two
possibilities mentioned above.

I thing that the search algorithm can be modified easily so that it
returns only useful matches - I would like to create an issue regarding
that in Weblate's github. If one uses just a standard vocabulary (a list
of translation of single words), no change would be visible.

What do you think about this option? Do you also find it useful?

Cheers

Milos

2019-12-12 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi,

with the new hardware Weblate started to be pretty usable. Great! I've

Do we have a policy how to file issues to Weblate? Just as individuals?
Or, do we as LO have some kind of "special relationship" with Weblate
which would make issues filed in the name of LO "heavier"?

Thanks

Hi,

I've tried the Slovak LOOL translation by logging in to
https://nextcloud.documentfoundation.org/ (version 6.3.0). There are
some untranslated strings in the UI, which cannot be found in pootle:

Edit: Copy

Insert: Chart, Section, More fields (including its submenu), Table of
Contents and Index , Bibliography Entry

Format: Watermark, Columns

an others.

These are probably missing in the pot file. Looks like a bug, doesn't it?

[libreoffice-l10n] Unclear strings in LOOL translations

2019-11-12 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi,

I've started to translate the recently added LOOL strings. There a two,
which I do not understand:

1. Insert column and row breaks in the spreadsheet to narrow the print
range and print the document to download. On printing the PDF, select
the pages of interest.
I have no idea what this means.

2.
Start cross copy/paste
What does 'cross' here mean?

thanks for your advice

I also find this to be an important question.

Currently we have in Weblate in Slovak UI master a lot of strings with
failing checks (mostly unchanged translation and trailing space). I
hoped to be able to download them for the whole UI master, fix them and
upload back (the page is currently very slow and I hoped to speed up the
process in this way).
However, I was able to download these strings only for individual files
(which does not help), since the hierarchy is file-language and not
language-file (which would be for our multifile project more appropriate).

To learn more, I've tried Weblate with another project
(https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/copyq/master/sk/). It is a single
file project and I would rate Weblate for this case as better than
Pootle. But in the case of LO it is very awkward. I think we should ask
the author, perhaps it can be fixed.

[libreoffice-l10n] A script to help with translations

2017-01-13 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi,

twice a year we get thousands of strings for translation. On the one
hand this is good but translation of strings which we have translated
many times in the past is pretty boring. So I have written a python
script, which can translate strings using unique existing translations.
These are then uploaded using Pootle. Its functionality is similar to
two tools from the translate toolkit: pretranslate and poconflicts. I do
not use these, because: pretranslate requires pot files (we do not have
them) and produces fuzzy translations, which we do not want. poconflicts
lists all conflicts, the script lists just those relevant to the
actually needed translations (I plan to use poconflits later to fix
conflicts).

The script is attached (I hope we can attach stuff here).

How to use:

1. Download existing translations from Pootle (master as well as the
previous version)

2. translate using:

./selftranslate.py -i idir -o odir

where idir is directory with po files to be translated. The output odir
contains only files with changes which can be uploaded to pootle. In
this case idir is used also as the source for translated strings. In our
case numerous translations may be missing (they were probably deleted
when updating). You may use:

./selftranslate.py -i idir -r rdir -o odir

where rdir is directory with other translation downloaded from Pootle
(for example the previous version) (in my case additional 300 strings
were translated)

3. Upload to pootle: zip the odir directory and upload to Pootle

In Slovak translation there are quite some conflicting translatios. The
command

./selftranslate.py -i idir -g > conflicts.json

or

./selftranslate.py -i idir -r rdir -g > conflicts.json

outputs their list in the form (json)

{
  "Start": "Začiatok/Spustiť",
  "Spacing:": "Rozostupy:/Riadkovanie:",
  "Collapse": "Zbaliť/Zmrštiť zo strán"
}

where the alternative translations are separated by "/". Edit the file
by deleting bad translations. (outputs of the previous two commands
should be merged). If the conflict is OK or you do not know, just delete
the line.

Then, translate using

./selftranslate.py -i idir -r rdir -o odir -c fixed_conflicts.json

It will fix the conflicts in the json file, too.

In Slovak this has reduced the number of strings to translate to about 1/3.

When uploading, I always test if it works by uploading just one zipped
file (with its full path). I've never had any problems.

If you have questions, do not hesitate to ask :). The script was tested
on Linux and a few python packaged needed to be installed (using pip)

Do you mean that one should break manually the text in order to be
displayed in youtube correctly? Because mplayer displays them correctly
without manual breaks.

If manual breaking is really necessary, one can do that, it is just
necessary to know how many characters are allowed for one line.

You can download my translated video from

To run it:
mplayer -sub "Join the LibreOffice community-sk.srt" -utf8 "Join the

[libreoffice-l10n] Video subtitles - srt files?

2016-10-07 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi,

I have just uploaded Slovak translation of the Community video.
I have also downloaded the video for off-line viewing with translated
subtitles in a SRT file (I've just discovered
https://www.4kdownload.com/products/product-videodownloader to do that)

The text in srt is broken according to the proper timing, which makes
sense. Wouldn't it be better to translate directly the SRT files to have
the correctly timed close captions directly?

best
Milos

Hi Michael,
did you mean the possibility to properly translate according to the
number of items?

"Plural-Forms: nplurals=3; plural=(n==1) ? 0 : (n>=2 && n<=4) ? 1 : 2;\n"

white-space
# translator-comments

msgid untranslated-string-singular
msgid_plural untranslated-string-plural

...
msgstr[N] translated-string-case-n

Does LO sopport this at all? All Slovak translations are in this sense
incorrect - if LO supports that I will be glad to correct them.

[libreoffice-l10n] bug in pootle: Copy into translation

Hi,

I think there is a bug in pootle. I display translation to several
languages and every now and then copy translation from some language to
my translation box by clickung the + button ( Copy into translation)
placed right to it.
Yesterday I've noticed that this always copies the English text, not the
one I want.
Where to announce this?

Hi,

I had the same problem in translating the LO Getting Strated guide using

reference being translated looks like this:

The technical names for common controls are shown in t1Figure 1/t1:
Názvy bežných ovládacích prvkov sú uvedené na obrázku t11/t1:

Instead of keeping translation 'obrázku' of 'Figure' inside the t1 tags,
I moved it outside. This worked well. It is possible that LO should be
able translate Figure inside the tags automatically (because of change
of language settings), but aparently this does not work (a bug?). I did
no go deeper into it, since automatic translation would not be useful
for me anyway, since the translation shoud be declinated according to
its context.

[libreoffice-l10n] Translation of LibreOffice Guides on Github

2015-02-26 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi,

For each LibreOffice component there exists a Guide: XX. The
documentation team keeps them up to date, the work on update for LO4.4
has just started. It would be great if we had their translations to as
many languages as possible. For this we have developed a workflow, which
is based on the OmegaT translation tool and its support for
collaborative translation by means of a remote repository.

This approach has been tested by translating the Getting Started Guide
4.2 to Slovak. Thanks to OmegaT its update will be now very easy: we
will have to translate just the differences. I think that nobody wants
to translate a single sentence twice and OmegaT fulfills this
requirement perfectly.

TDF (Sophie, Norbert and others) has created for this purpose a
repository in the Libreoffice space on Github: XX Once a OmegaT team
project is set up there, anybody can join the translation process
through the OmegaT program - no special knowledge of other programs
except for OmegaT is necessary. This is a big advantage. This setup
allows even that two translators translate simultaneously a single
document.

In the Github repository we currently have team projects for fr, de, sk
and cs. In this moment we look for administrators for other languages,
who would set up the repository for their language and later would
organize the translation.

Basic set up of one language is also very easy. OmegaT however offers
some other options which may significantly simplify and speed up the
translation process. This requires some experience - I will be glad to
help you.
These 'other options' include
- creation of a glossary with GUI translations: OmegaT then offers them
in a dropdown menu - one does not have to look up these translation in
Pootle or LO itself.
- reuse of old translation, if you have one. This requires some extra
work (alignment of the original and translation) , but pays well off.
- machine translation. These are usually not perfect, but still can save
a lot of typing. They are offered in OmegaT only as a suggestion, so one
and modify them if necessary.
- reuse translation of LibreOffice Help

Machine translation can be of big advantage if it works. We have used
Google Translate for translation between Slovak and Czech versions. I
estimate that it has reduced the required time by about 75%. Slovak and
Czech are close languages so GT works very well. Maybe that other pairs
work well too (english - ??, french - spanish, spanish-italian,
slovak-polish, german-dutch etc). I've written a simple script to
translate OmegaT translation memory using Google translate (translation
memory is an xml file, where OmegaT stores all translated segments). If
you want to give it a try, I can translate the English, Czech or Slovak
version of the translation memory to your language so that you can check.

with best wishes
Milos

This is activated, but it has the same problem as on the live server:
the translation memory server doesn't support https, so your browser
refuses to load it since pootle itself was accessed using https.

Your browser should show some indicator that it blocked content from
loading. In chrome it is a shield at the right hand side of the
location entry box, next to the bookmark-star, in firefox the
indicator is at the left.

Yes, it works! I did not notice that tiny buttuns earlier :)
Thanks!

What is loaded in the TM now? It would be great if older version were in
it too - exactly for the next batch of dialog updates.

Allow to load the content from locamotion org and it should work.

Can we activate this feature? It would help mostly in translation of the

As I remember using TM from the amagama server in Virtaal some time ago,
there were old openoffice strings there, but no LO strings. Pootle,
however, supports private TM servers - does it make sense to set up our

[libreoffice-l10n] translating dialogs using OmegaT

2013-11-29 Thread Milos Sramek

Hi,

I've studied a bit the situation regarding the new strings for
translation in dialogs.

The developers have since lo4.1 release converted 285 dialogs to glade
ui files. For us this means that the corresponding strings were moved
from the files in the (xxx)/source to files in the (xxx)/uiconfig
subdirectories. One can check in Pootle that there really are fewer
words in the source subdirs and more in the uiconfig subdirs comparing
4.2 to 4.1.

The consequence for us is that the translations from the source files
are missing in the uiconfig files. There are about 8000 words to
translate now, so this is a lot of work. Moreover, in Pootle we do not
see the old 4.1 stuff and also do not see similar strings from 4.2 - so
it looks like we should repeat the translation again from scratch.

I've tried to use OmegaT for translation - it can provide reference to
4.1 and in general it significantly speeds up the procedure

OmegaT uses for translation translation memory (tmx files)- except for
the main one it can use also auxiliary tmx files.
The idea is to convert 4.1 translation to these auxiliary tmx files -
they are then offered by OmegaT as suggestions.

The procedure:
1. Install omegat from omegat.org (I use the beta version)
2. Download of po files from Pootle. I've downloaded everything in
libo_ui-sk.zip (4.2) and libo41x_ui-sk.zip files
3. Create a new omegat project (OT asks you to create a directory, let's
create XXX) without importing anything

4. Unzip libo_ui-sk.zip in XXX/sources
5. Unzip libo41x_ui-sk.zip im XXX/tm
6. Convert the po files to tmx in XXX/tm (using the bash shell):
for i in `find . -name \*po`; do po2tmx --lang sk -i $i -o $i.tmx ;done
7. This step is optional, but can save a lot of typing: convert the ~
accelerators by the _ ones:

sed -i -e s/\~/_/ `find . -name \*tmx`
This converts ~ in all strings, not only the dialog ones. It should
not be a problem, since we want to translate only the dialog strings
8. Start OmegaT and open the XXX directory. It will load po files from
XXX/source. Suggestions from auxiliary tmx files created from 4.1 are in
the upper right pane. Most of the strings are translated (OT understands
po files) and in my setting are displayed yellow. Every now and then
there is an untranslated (blue) string. By pressing CRTL-U one jumps to
the next untranslated string. OT may directly suggest a translation
(based on the tmx files) - marked by [approximate] (or something similar
in other language). If you like it, press CTRL-R and [approximate]
vanishes. Or edit, as you wish. Then press CTRL-U and go to the next string.
9. When done, choose Project Create translated documents. These appear
in XXX/target. One can compare the source and target files using
gvimdiff - the files are exactly the same except for the translations.
10. When a subdirectory is translated (say, cui), zip it and upload to
pootle.

11. Enjoy the '0' in the Need translation column

OmegaT normally segments the text at the level of sentences. This means
that a PO message, consisting of two and more sentences, would be
offered for translations in two or more parts. The suggestions based on
auxiliary tmx file are however not split. One can change this behaviour
by unchecking all options in Settings Segmentation Predefined (the
last but 3 iten). Subsequenly, a PO message will alway appear as one
item in OT.

My observations after translating about 1000 words:

- work with OT is much faster than with Pootle - there one waits a
second or two after submitting a string, which after some time becomes
annoying

- suggestions are both exact and fuzzy
- CTRL-U stops at untranslated strings and at translated strings with
ambiguous translation in the tmx files. In the second case the the
original translation is kept - one thus can correct it, based on the
suggestions
- In suggestions one can sometimes see an incorrect translation - one
can then look the incorrect string up in Pootle and correct it. Or, one
can do that directly in the XXX/sources tree
- one can see a lot of context - 16 lines in my case. For me it helps,
for example, to choose correctly gender of adjectives, if I see that
'thick' is related to 'line'
- OT allways want to translate headers of the po files (these are items
win many lines). Just hit CRTL-SHIFT-R to take the original

There seem to be also another option how to use OT. One can perhaps
merge the auxiliary tmx files into one and store it as
XXX/omegat/project_save.tmx. This is the main translation memory. In

[libreoffice-l10n] accelerators

2013-11-27 Thread Milos Sramek

Hi,

about 2-3 years ago there was a discussion here about accelerators - if
to use them or not. That time it was said, that, if no accelerator is
used, LO assignes one automatically.

Now I see that the developers still use accelerators (~) in the new
strings in LO4.2. They are, however, ignored by some translations. So,
should we use them or should we ignore them? Or it is up to us?

How about the _ acceletarors (for the glade dialogs)?

Thanks

If you add to that thousands of new strings in LO and probably

Perhaps one can use the LO translation in AOO by the help of pomerge:

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Re: Advice on translating large Odt documents

2013-10-11 Thread Milos Sramek

Hi Alex,

you can download the script from http://ubuntuone.com/1LSDBsRaraP5CHDXMRPjSW
Except for it there is also the whole Getting started guide - original
files, files with manually removed direct formating and files cleaned
by the script.
The styles were modified (colored background) so that one can
distinguish between direct formatting and styles.

The script currently does not accept any switches and can be
meaningfully used only with the LO guides - some stuff is hardcoded
inside. I plan, however, improve it a bit :) See the corr.sh script in
the archive.

What is important - once the text is cleaned up, it should be sent to
the authors replace the originals. Otherwise we will never get rid of
the direct formatting mess.

We've just successfully passed a proof-of-the-concept testing of

The only problem we have encountered (and solved) is oversegmentation of

combined to form books of 300-600 pages.

At the moment their only way of translating them means they can't

They can use OmegaT, it's a very good tool translated in several

Does anyone here translate office documents or books and have any

The workflow depend on the size of the team, numbers of translators,

[libreoffice-l10n] translating LO guides

2013-09-13 Thread Milos Sramek

Hi,

does anybody have experience with translation of LO guides from
https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/documentation/?

I've tried to use OmegaT for that, but I've failed, because the xml
code is 'polluted' by numerous useless tags (read below) which makes
using translation software impossible. Perhaps a 'clean up' tool would
help, but I do no know anything like that :(

Milos

Explanantion of the problem:
For example, the sentence
*Quickstarter is installed in the Windows system tray and is
automatically loaded during system startup.*

is displayed in the document without any formatting, using just the the
Default character style

In OmegaT, however, it is displayed like this:

*f10Quickstarter is installed in /f10f11the Windows system
tray**/f11f12and is automatically loaded /f12f13during system
startup.**

**/f13*
(fxx are tag replacements and should not be touched.)

This suggests that there are some tags inside this sentence, in spite
the fact that I do not see any. Really, in the content.xml file inside
the document we can see them:

*text:span text:style-name=T65Quickstarter is installed in**
**/text:spantext:span text:style-name=T21the Windows system tray**
**/text:spantext:span text:style-name=T65and is automatically loaded**
**/text:spantext:span text:style-name=T21during system startup.**
**/text:span*/**
*
These tags in fact do not mean anything meaningful:

*style:style
style:name=T21**style:family=textstyle:text-properties
fo:language=en**fo:country=GB//style:style***

*

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] [ANNOUNCE] Locale data date acceptance patterns, localizers HEADS UP please :)

2012-01-14 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi Eike,

thank you for pointing to the existence of these xml files.

I found several incorrect items in sk_SK.xml. When corrected, may I send
it to you, too?
Is it somehow possible to test such file before sending it?

Regarding Acceptance patterns. Currently, we have in Slovak:
11. converts o 11.02.12
11.2 converts to 11.02.12
Which is OK, I just would prefer 11.02.2012

11-2 also converts to 11.02.12, but I would prefer 2012-01-11
Would that be possible? Both forms (with . and -) are OK according to
Slovak standard, so it makes sense to have both these possibilities.
In fact, no format is defined with the |DateAcceptancePattern |tag.
Which one is used then? The default one?

In fact, can we have different default format for Cand and for Writer?
This makes sense for me - in Calc I find 11.02.2012 more appropriate,
but in Writer
11. február 2012 should be prefered.

And the last one: In 11. február 2012, február is in the nominative
case. However we should use genitive: februára. Is it possible to
specify that?
Currently, the misuse the Month tag
Month
  MonthIDfeb/MonthID
  DefaultAbbrvNamefebruár/DefaultAbbrvName
  DefaultFullNamefebruára/DefaultFullName
/Month
but it leads often to nonsense.

Thanks in advance,
Milos

for 3.5, the one reported by Milos and the one by Mihkel? Or do we have to
adapt our translations according to what the author of code wanted to
say? Time for 3.5 is running out I guess.
I don't understand why anyone needs to adapt translations for Milos' example.

We have Delete $1 and Format $1 where $1 can be Header or
Footer. Those are STR_HEADER and STR_FOOTER from
sw/source/ui/docvw/docvw.src and are not used anywhere else, so you
can translate them as you need to fit into the Delete $1 context. I
hope the translation for Header or Footer is not different
depending on if you delete it or if format it.
No, it is not different.

So, I corrected the translation to the accusative case without the
capital letter. I could have done that also earlier (thanks to KeyId),
but I was not sure if these string were used elsewhere in a different
context (say, in nominative) or not. Now I know :)
Thanks

Milos

As for the Insert Rows/Columns modal dialog, it was a good catch that
needs to be fixed. But if it have been good enough for the last couple
of years, then I don't think we need to urgently fix it in 3.5 and
break the string freeze. Let's fix it in master. What do you think?

 Best regards,
 Andras

 accelerators from translation (msgstr) files?
Hi, this seems to be easy:

In the topmost directory issue the following command:

 sed -i.xx '/^msgstr/ s/\~//g' `find . -name \*po`

 Explanation:

find . -name \*po finds all po files
`find . -name \*po` enters list of these files to the command
sed -i does inplace modification, backing up the original file to
 name.po.xx

the command s/\~//g replaces all ~character by nothing
/^msgstr/ allows to do that only on lines, which start by msgstr

(you probably do no want to change the English lines and the lines which
 specify ~ as the accelerator.)

Once done, you can check the differences by:

 for i in `find . -name \*.po`; do diff $i.xx $i $i.diff; done

for each po file, a file with differences is created with the following
 records:
 73c73 line number
msgstr Otvo~riť len na čítanie input
 ---
msgstr Otvoriť len na čítanie. output
If you want to see the ~ characters, use the following before and after
 deletion

 grep \~ `find . -name \*.po`

While it is easy to get all po files from pootle, I do not know, if it
is possible to upload many files at once. Perhaps, git access is useful
 to do this.

Be careful, always make backups and check the result

 Enjoy

 Hi again Milos,

The commando work like a charm. Will wait till Andras reply to see my next
move. But now, how can I remove in one step the files generated? (diff and
 po.xx)
Hi

rm `find . -name \*.xx`

the command find . -name \*.xx finds all *.xx files and the backquotes
`` just take the output of the find command and insert it as a list of
arguments to the rm command.

Milos

I think it is better to be done by someone that has experience with such
 operations.

But in the meantime I will certainly try Your commands and post an feedback.

In some other posts someone said that it is possible to upload the whole
directory to pootle but I don´t know how.

Just one more question. If I download whole directory from pootle, when
unzip it I have a folder with several subfolders. Does Your command work on
parent folder or do I have to enter in each subfolder and do the command on
 them.
Just that one for all subfolders. The `find . -name \*.po` command does
the trick - it finds all po files in the tree specified by the first
argument to find (. (dot) in this case, meaning this directory).

 Hi Michael,

 2) Accelerators
Could these *please* be automated by some dandy piece of script rather
 than
the translator spending hours trying to make sure they don't overlap,
 then
watching them overlap and spending even more time finding the right one
 and
changing it? Surely this can be automated.

I'll answer to other items later, but this one is easy. Accelerators
are generated automatically when you omit them from your translation.
VCL takes care of them so they don't overlap.

in English) and it would be nice to have an option to specify them.
Currently, just two such rules exist, one for English and One for French.
 AutoCorrect rules are implemented in

I doubt however, that your problem (single letter

 AutoCorrect rules.

It could if autocorrect for a single letterspace - the same
letternon-breaking space worked... Althought that's not exactly
 autocorrect rule as such...
Thank you!

The required rule is similar to the existing French rule, so I'll give
it a try. Now I know where it is.

Hi Bersam,

the required instructions are available at

The first two lines are the most important ones:

* create an account here

* request on the website mailing list
  http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists#website the
creation of a site and give the name of it and the code to use

This way, the sk.libreoffice.org page was succesfully created recently

[libreoffice-l10n] panel icon tip text incorrect and not translated

2011-01-16 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi,

the panel icon tip text is incorrect and not translated (to Slovak, but
perhaps also other languages).

Observed in:
LibO_3.3.0rc3_Linux_x86-64_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz
LibO_3.3.0rc3_Linux_x86-64_langpack-deb_sk.tar.gz
and Ubuntu 10.10

The problem:

The tip text says:
--
Libreoffice 3.3
The office productivity suite compatible to the open and standardized
ODF document format. Supported by Sun Microsystems.
--

Please notice the word Sun

This string is different is OOO 3.3:

--
The office productivity suite compatible to the open and standardized
ODF document format. Supported by Oracle.
--

I think that this string should be added to the LO specific strings and
Sun Microsystems should be replaced by TDF.

[libreoffice-l10n] Translation vanished

2010-12-29 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi everybody,

I am new on this list and I want to introduce myself first: My name is
Milos Sramek and I am a member of the Slovak OOO translation team which
will take take care also of the LO localization.

Now the problem: two days ago I uploaded full translation (with some
fuzzy strings) of the lo-build-sk.po file to pootle through the upload
feature at
http://translations.documentfoundation.org/sk/libo33/edit.html. Pootle
subsequently confirmed full translation.

However, the file is today in the old half translated status.
Fortunately, I have the translated file on my computer.

So, something went wrong.

Thanks,
Milos

[libreoffice-l10n] update from OOO

2010-12-29 Thread Milos Sramek
Dear all,

I have just checked the recent LO beta - the Slovak translation which is
used there is a couple of months old.

Will they be updated prior to LO3.3 release somehow automatically, or
should we ask somebody to do that?

A brief note on the procedure how are the OOO strings taken from the OOO
repository on http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Translation_for_3_3
would help. The OOO localization procedure is not very simple and I
think that information where are the strings taken from can help us to
make sure (on the OOO side) that the strings are there in the right moment.

Thanks

Fortunately, I got a backup so it was as simple as an upload with
 merge or overwrite option.

I think it was my mistake, and it applies to all locales. While
