RE: [LegacyUG] Read Receipt for Message
Not a big deal. I was able to turn it off but as you said I usually just cancel them because I figure the person probably doesn't realize they have it turned on until they receive a ton of read receipts. -Original Message- From: k...@legacyfamilytree.com [mailto:k...@legacyfamilytree.com]on Behalf Of Laurie Nelson Sent: Sunday, November 01, 2009 7:06 PM To: LegacyUserGroup@legacyfamilytree.com Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Read Receipt for Message Bill, I'm one of the users who requests read receipts. On the other mail lists I belong to (all on rootsweb), they are turned off, so I was surprised when I started getting read receipts from members of this list. I have requested read receipts because, as a volunteer, I needed to know when my important messages were received even if the receiver(s) didn't have time or take the time to respond. As a genealogy enthusiast, I also need to know whether my messages are read. If not, I might need to contact that person again. I didn't mean to cause havoc in this list. I thought they were sent only because I chose Reply All instead of just Reply, but I'm not sure. I will try to turn off read receipts just for messages to this list or else stop sending messages to it altogether, if that doesn't work. As others have pointed out, most email programs allow you to turn off even viewing requests for read receipts. Personally when I receive one from someone I don't know, I ignore it. Thanks for bringing this up. I've intended to apologize for the read receipts, but have been busy with other things. Laurie Nelson -- From: William H. Boswell whbosw...@gmail.com Sent: Sunday, November 01, 2009 12:09 PM To: LegacyUserGroup@legacyfamilytree.com Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Read Receipt for Message I tried Thunderbird a couple of years ago and hated it. Their web browser, Firefox, was good until it kept crashing all the time so I removed it as well. Mozilla products are on my list of programs to avoid. I never switched to later versions of Microsoft Office because they became user unfriendly by taking away features I liked in the 2000 version. Actually I like Open Office better, which is free, but it doesn't have email software. I will look and see if I can turn them off, but I think the turning off should be done from those requesting the receipts. I just think the two subscribers should be aware that some of us are getting these messages and they are unnecessary. I belong to a number of other lists and never receive these so perhaps those email systems eliminate these messages entirely. Save the return receipts for the post office. They hold up better in court than emails as I know from previous experience in court. -Original Message- From: k...@legacyfamilytree.com [mailto:k...@legacyfamilytree.com]on Behalf Of Gene Young Sent: Sunday, November 01, 2009 1:47 PM To: LegacyUserGroup@legacyfamilytree.com Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Read Receipt for Message William H. Ignoring them is always the best policy as spammers and phishers will utilize them to verify a live email address which they then hammer and sell to other spammers. If you can not turn off automatic responses to read receipts in Outlook 2000 I would strongly suggest changing your email client to Thunderbird or any other client that allows this. I suggest Thunderbird because it is free and works very well. -- Gene Y. http://myyoungs.atspace.com/index.htm Researching Young, Zies, Harer Cox with Legacy Family Tree Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp

[LegacyUG] Ancestry.ca direct link to Legacy
Another newbie question: I have just linked onto Ancestry.ca for my first 14-day trial. Is there an easy way to download the data there directly into my legacy tree? I spent hours entering and sourcing 3 marriages and I have piles to do. Then in frustration I created a mini tree on Ancestry and with the click of the mouse I could link piles of data from many different sources. Ruth asked a question about uploading a GEDCOM from Legacy to Ancestry - is this how you access these records? Is it safe? I don't want to jeopardize all the info I have already entered and find it all scrambled when I bring it back into Legacy. Will the records from Ancestry be properly sourced? Is there a training CD or someplace where I can get up to speed? RE: [LegacyUG] Ancestry.ca direct link to Legacy
What I do is upload a gedcom of the parts of my tree I want to research on ancestry. I then save whatever records I find in the tree. When I am done I download the tree as another gedcom. I then merge back the new gedcom into legacy. Ancestry does properly source the info and that is my reason for importing the data back into my main tree. [LegacyUG] Disabled Landscape option for Pedigree Report
I recently purchased and installed Legacy 7.0.0.109, no previous Legacy program on the machine (I bypassed the free trial stage.) When I use the reports menu to print out a pedigree chart, the only orientation option available is portrait. The round Landscape dot is grayed out (as in unavailable.) Landscape is available in every report type I have checked (all the major ones and many of the Books/Other. It is also the most important one for the Pedigree Report, the only one for which it is disabled. My chart is very definitely a landscape oriented chart. Any one else had this problem? Any one have a solution? I have read all the on-line help file, especially Trouble-Shooting, scanned my hard drive, rebooted the machine several times, viewed all available free tutorials, everything I can think of. This is the last thing they ask me to do before I report a bug. Sure hope someone has a solution. I had the same problem a while back, and this is the reply I received (it's probably in the Legacy archives): Try using the Books/OtherPublishing CenterPedigree Chart. Once in the Pedigree chart dialog, go to the Options tab and select page setup and you should be good to go. Seems strange, but it worked.
