RE: [LegacyUG] Capitolization and in-line auto complete

2007-01-08 Thread C.G. Ouimet

Everything works fine for me. However, Legacy does slow down on larger
files; mine has almost 98,000 individuals. This slow down does also slow
down the Locations auto-complete. It gets even slower when the PC is really
busy, like when I'm recording video from my PVR; in those situations, I have
experienced what might be this stuttering you describe. However, I don't
view this as a Legacy issue but rather a resources issue.

Anyone notice this;

when in Family View and adding someone, anyone, son, daughter, another
wife,
anyone, when you put in a fore name and tab to another field it will
automatically
capitolize that fore name but when you add a middle name also, it will
leave the
first name in lower case if that is how it was typed.

and when typing a location, the auto complete feature doesn't always
work, you have
to add a letter or two before it will pick up again.

   Items 151 and 152 on today's fix-it list. LOL

RE: [LegacyUG] Capitolization and in-line auto complete

2007-01-08 Thread C.G. Ouimet

What I should have said is that large files run slower, a little slower -
still fast though.

Things can get sluggish when the PC is really otherwise busy like disk
intensive video recording. But again, not a Legacy issue.

Gene,
WRT the first part of your email that is not a problem which I have experienced.

Regarding the second part, if one has two similar names the autocomplete will
not click-in until it is clear which option is required.
eg. Eccles, Lancashire and Eccleston, St Helens, Lancashire. I cannot remember
which way round it is but for one the autocomplete will only start when the
comma is entered.

That is different from how my Legacy version works. I am running
6.0.0.118, but it seems to me that it has worked this way always for
me: My auto-complete puts the lowest alphabetical match in
immediately, beginning with the first letter. I wonder if there is a
setting for this? (I looked for one but did not find one in
Customize.)

The Help file does not mention anything about auto-complete, although
it does mention the memorized list of the previous ten locations used
(Deluxe version only).

So I am guessing Gene's Legacy problem, if it doesn't have anything to

(Gene - have you tried running Legacy all by itself and recreating the

Re: [LegacyUG] Capitolization and in-line auto complete

Anyone notice this;

when in Family View and adding someone, anyone, son, daughter, another
wife,
anyone, when you put in a fore name and tab to another field it will
automatically
capitolize that fore name but when you add a middle name also, it will
leave the

first name in lower case if that is how it was typed.

I have the same problem. Mostly I notice, but not always, so I have ended up
with several first first names without a capitalized first letter.

RE: [LegacyUG] Capitolization and in-line auto complete

2007-01-08 Thread ronald ferguson

Gene,

I tend to agree with Susan here. The only times I have come across anything
like this is when I have had my AVG virus checker scanning the computer at the
same time as Legacy is running (it takes over 3 hrs for it to check all my
files). This I overcame by running the scan overnight.

Ron, thanks for clarifying. I really wondered how Legacy could act so
differently!! And sorry I didn't address it directly to you - after I
sent it I realized I forgot that.

So I am guessing Gene's Legacy problem, if it doesn't have anything to
do with his locations list entries, must be caused by something else.
(Gene - have you tried running Legacy all by itself and recreating the
problem, to ascertain that it isn't a computer resources issue?)

Re: [LegacyUG] Capitolization and in-line auto complete

2007-01-07 Thread Cathy

Hi Gene,
I can't reproduce either of these.

I normally have Options Customise - Data Format Tab
Letter Case of Given Names and Locations
set to
Don't change what I enter
rather than set to
Initial caps

However I changed it to try.

I entered two given names all lower case and tabbing they both
switched to Initial caps. Works for three given names as well.

I've not seen the location behaviour you speak of - have you checked
what is in your Master Location list for locations beginning with the
letters you entered before it stuttered? Perhaps you have an
incomplete location entered?

Cheers,
Cathy

  Items 151 and 152 on today's fix-it list. LOL

Re: [LegacyUG] Capitolization and in-line auto complete

2007-01-07 Thread Gene Hutson

Thanx Cathy,

I re-applied the check mark and will see what happens.

as for the stuttering locations, this has done this forever,
since version 5 and before. I have been completely through
my locations list adding counties to every location for a more
complete look and feel, and found nothing amiss.

Guess it's something I'll just have to live with.

  Thanx,

 Gene
