Re: [LegacyUG] Wrong sex for wife

2017-08-21 Thread Cathy Pinner

Marie,
Then you linked her wrongly. You should have added her to the existing
relationship with the children - and you presumably have checked that
her husband is male?
You need to unlink her and with her husband and children on Family View,
click to add wife and then link to existing person and make sure add to
this relationship is checked. Sorry that's not the exact wording but you
should see what I'm talking about.

Marie,

If you were using Legacy 9, you could just change her gender.

In Legacy 8 you need to unlink her from her partners, not her parents,
in order to be able to change gender.
If she only has one partner and the partner has the wrong gender as

need to unlink from the hidden erroneous partner. If she has a child,
then she automatically has a blank/unknown partner (see

She appears to be listed twice with the same RIN # but only shows in
the Name list once with her correct RIN number. When she is shown on
the screen with her husband and children she is listed (color wise)

How do I get her to appear with her parents as a female and with her

Hi John,

I note that there isn't an override on the Basic Sources for Bibliography as
there is for SourceWriter sources.
Bibliography in addition to Source Citations is new with the SourceWriter and I
suspect this has been overlooked.
I can't see this amongst the bugs or suggestions so will add it when I get a
chance.

I have used the Basic Style source template for a few of my sources. The
option to italicise the titles of the publications is selected in each case.
However, when I preview the Bibliography, the titles are not italicised. Is
this a bug or have I missed something?

Re: [LegacyUG] Shared database problem

2017-08-21 Thread Chris Hill
That actually seems to be correct!!

You are attempting to access, as the L:, a folder in a different PC. In
order to do that, your laptop NEEDS to know where the location in your
desktop is, before it can locate the folder. Therefore it does not know
where to point the L: drive to.

Using File Explorer will enable that access, and will remember that you use
the L: drive to access the Legacy folder, and hence you will be able to
access the file directly or through Legacy.

There is a solution to this, as follows

1. On the desktop, on the Legacy folder with your files, you need to set it
up for Sharing and give it a Share Name. You, if you have not yet, need to
right click on the folder and then on Properties. Within the Properties
window, select the Sharing pane. If the folder is already shared, it will
tell you the Network Path of the folder. If it is not shared, it will say
Not Shared and you will need to click on the Share button. You will then
need to attach it to a user, usually your user id or your HomeGroup, and
then click on the Share button. The system will then give you a display
shows that the folder is shared with a Network Path of
\\DesktopPC\sharename, then click on Done to complete the sharing. Note that
the share name may include the folder path to find it.

2. On the laptop, you need to create a short Batch file to make the
allocation of the L: to the shared folder. This just needs two lines, like
these :

net use l: /d
net use l: \\DesktopPC\sharename

The first line will remove any existing mapping to the L: drive. If there
are blank in the share name, you will need to wrap it by quotes - net use l:
"\\DesktopPC\share name".

Save this as a text file with a .bat extension and place it on the desktop.
You can then run that file whenever you need to get access to the Legacy
folder. You can also auto-run it by placing it in the Startup folder, which
is located in C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start
Menu\Programs\Startup so that the laptop will run it when it boots, but that
would be dependent on the networking and desktop being active by then.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Chris

Subject: [LegacyUG] Shared database problem

I have a Legacy family file on a desktop computer which I also access from
my laptop computer.  From the laptop the ‘Legacy Family Tree’ folder is
defined as L:.  The  location of my family file is therefore L:\Data\ and
the location of the media files is L:\Media\.  To access my family files
from my laptop, I must first go to L:/Data in File Explorer and select and
open ‘MyFamilyFile’.FDB.  Legacy automatically runs and my family file is
opened.  If I first run Legacy, my family file is not located, and when I
try to open it manually from within Legacy, the L: drive is not even found.
It is also not seen when I go to Customize/Locations.  If I have previously
opened the family file using File Explorer, the L: drive is seen, and
everything works great.

In simple terms, Legacy does not see the L: drive unless I’ve already
accessed it through File Explorer to run Legacy.  Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Jim
