Re: [LegacyUG] Problems searching from Research Guidance Center

2014-12-03 Thread Charles Brasell
Hi Cathy

Thanks for your assessment . I Have only just joined the game again after some
years off and was looking forward to making some use of the research guidance
facility, being retired, but this may partly rule it out.
Chrome is my default and I also entered it in Options 11.1 but from what you
say I am still unclear when Chrome will be used and not the IE engine, because
Chrome does not seem to open from research guidance.
I wonder whether script errors come up in these live demos of Legacy currently.

Regards the book PDF's I will change my file associations.

  Hi Charles,

Web pages that open inside Legacy use an IE engine. This cannot be changed. I
also get the warning (and errors) using Win 8.1 and IE 11. This will happen
until/unless the programmers update the IE engine being used.

Web pages that are launched from inside Legacy but open in a separate browser
open in your default browser - or the browser you nominate in Options -
Customise - Launch - In Legacy 8 it's option 11.1. This happens when you search
from Research Guidance - Suggested Sources tab and when you use the Internet
Searches on the Internet Ribbon.

  Hope that clarifies.

Hi Charles,

Wasn't I clear enough?

If the website is in a Legacy frame, then it is a version of IE.
Otherwise your browser of choice will open.

You can get Chrome to open from Research Guidance but not from the tab
you were using to access the Ancestral File.
The errors for the Ancestral File may be due to the fact that the
Ancestral File has been superseded by the FamilySearch Family Tree.

RE: [LegacyUG] Problems searching from Research Guidance Center

2014-12-03 Thread Michele/Support
Charles and Cathy,
The problem with the script errors is a known issue (#5299) and it has been
assigned to a programmer to be fixed. The fix will appear in a future update
but there is no way to know exactly when that will be.

You will only get this error on the Preliminary Survey tab. I will tell you
that part of the problem is FamilySearch. Their website is not fully
compatible with Internet Explorer. Here is a quote from their website,

“According to the Engineering Division, we're not fully supported by
Internet Explorer (May 2013).”

Now about the Ancestral file. The Ancestral File is still available as is the
Pedigree Resource File. Here is a direct link to it on FamilySearch
https://familysearch.org/family-trees I updated the Research Guidance so the
link to these files is now correct.

When you access it through Legacy you can click through the script errors (keep
hitting yes) and the website will pop up. If you do access it through Legacy
you will then be able to mark the task completed and Legacy will populate the
date that you last searched.
