It is indeed unfortunate. Feel free to add a bug in bugzilla.lyx.org

leave its content in the main document. This is probably not what you

double dots for french

2002-07-02 Thread Nicolas SABOURET

Hi,

In lyx1.2 (and before), when using either french or french-Gutenberg,
Lyx automatically adds a blank space before double dots :.

1. IMHO, it is not necessary since most french users are used to typing
this blank space before the double dot, especially when no space appear
in the lyx window. By comparison, automatic spaces before and after the
french quotes » and « are OK since they appear in the window (no
temptation of doing it twice).
A solution (IMHO) would be to show this space on the window (just like
was done for quotes).
I understand it might be very complicated to program this feature...

2. This automatic spacing can make funny things. For instance:
xml :my-tagblabla/xml :my-tag
http ://www.myself.org/

- Is there a way to tell lyx, temporaryly, NOT to put empty spaces. The
solution I used is to enter math-mode before typing :, but it doesn't
look as a clean solution to me.

3. The process is also applied in the bibliography and, for journals, it
is really annoying for the pages numbering. It makes:
M. Myname. My nice title. The Journal's Name, volume :pages-numbers,
year.
e.g.N. Sabouret. LyX is cool. Computer Science, 24: 3-5, 2002

What can I do ?

Thanks in advance,
Nico.

It works. This is perfect for long texts without automatic spacing,

bibliography button and change its character's style.*

Thanks for this solution.

GS -dCompatibilityLevel switch

[snip] thread about the fact that backconversion of bitmapped
   eps to pdf via epstopdf may fail if the switch is not set;
avoided is the original bitmap is present, but may happen
with eps of unknown origin or (to be checked) exported from xfig

So you recommand to set the option within the
script rather than provide a warning ?
Someting like
setenv GS_OPTIONS $GS_OPTIONS -dCompatibilityLevel=1.1
(forgive a possible syntax error).

I don't know if it's possible to change this before 3.1.

Perhaps changing the message to suggest to set the GS_OPTIONS
would be enough right now.

So what's going on ?
I ran through the GS doc, and found nothing about
the -dCompatibilityLevel switch.

I think a bit annoying to force an undocumented GS option,
anyone knowing something about this ?

On the other side, further checks show that the error
may highly depend unpon the local screen fonts installed
(same file, same acroread binary, different behaviour
on different computers), so the option seems compulsory
when wide diffusion is planned, even with a correct
behaviour on your screen.

The printed stuff must be OK, but if we provide hyperlinked
PDF, it's to read it on screen...

I suppose that you do not use the tx2pdf script, which
converts your images by default to pdf.

Running only pdflatev gives empty images. Look at the

I have downloaded the LyXTips.tgz. The possibility to browse offline through

But I have a problem: neither Opera 6.0 nor Konqueror 3.0.0 can interpret the

[Opera:] XML-Interpretation fehlgeschlagen syntax error (2:62)
[Konqueror:] XML-Lesefehler: unexpected character in Zeile [x], Spalte [y]

Mozilla 1.0 can interpret the php3-files, but it does not show the php-files.
It works when I rename the php-files into php3, but then I have to change the
links in nearly every document, which would be a little bit too much work...
;-(

Do I have to change some of my browser-settings or is there any other clue?
I work on a SuSE-Linux 7.3.

2002-07-02 Thread Jacek Stolarczyk

Hi,

When I try to insert a EPS image (created with GIMP) I only get a black

TeX output looks good, so does PostScript output so it miust be some kind
of display problem. Actually help files show the same behaviour (with that
Mobius image). I tried to insert a tif pixcture, but the result was the
same.

How can I display properly images in LyX? The final output is OK, so the
problem is not critical, but with lots of images it's difficult to handle.

double dots for french

Thanks in advance,
Nico.

[snip] thread about the fact that backconversion of bitmapped
   eps to pdf via epstopdf may fail if the switch is not set;
avoided is the original bitmap is present, but may happen
with eps of unknown origin or (to be checked) exported from xfig

PDF, it's to read it on screen...

maybe this question is off-topic, but I hope you can help me anyway:

I have downloaded the LyXTips.tgz. The possibility to browse offline through
the tips is great!

But I have a problem: neither Opera 6.0 nor Konqueror 3.0.0 can interpret the
php-files. They both have the following error:

[Opera:] XML-Interpretation fehlgeschlagen syntax error (2:62)
[Konqueror:] XML-Lesefehler: unexpected character in Zeile [x], Spalte [y]

Mozilla 1.0 can interpret the php3-files, but it does not show the php-files.
It works when I rename the php-files into php3, but then I have to change the
links in nearly every document, which would be a little bit too much work...
;-(

Do I have to change some of my browser-settings or is there any other clue?
I work on a SuSE-Linux 7.3.

It is indeed unfortunate. Feel free to add a bug in bugzilla.lyx.org
so that it does not get forgotten. Note that what you describe is
'close all flaots'. 'melt all floats' used to delete the float and
leave its content in the main document. This is probably not what you

double dots for french

2002-07-02 Thread Nicolas SABOURET

Hi,

In lyx1.2 (and before), when using either french or french-Gutenberg,
Lyx automatically adds a blank space before double dots ":".

For instance:
blabla
http ://www.myself.org/

-> Is there a way to tell lyx, temporaryly, NOT to put empty spaces. The
solution I used is to enter math-mode before typing :, but it doesn't
look as a clean solution to me.

3. The process is also applied in the bibliography and, for journals, it
is really annoying for the pages numbering. It makes:
M. Myname. My nice title. The Journal's Name, volume :pages-numbers,
year.
e.g.N. Sabouret. LyX is cool. Computer Science, 24: 3-5, 2002

What can I do ?

Thanks in advance,
Nico.

It works. This is perfect for long texts without "automatic spacing",
such as lyx-code or URLs. It also works for references (just select the
"bibliography" button and change its character's style.*

Thanks for this solution.

I suppose that you do not use the tx2pdf script, which
converts your images by default to pdf.

Running only pdflatev gives empty images. Look at the

I have no problem here.
It runs with pdflatex ... and with tex2pdf
In the first case all temporary files are in LyX's
tempdir and in the second case I have the tex2pdf-
tempdir and a logfile in the maindir of the doc.

I'm running 1.3.0 cvs with some changes to the
graphic part and I do not really know if this
is the reason why it does not failed.

Document Classes Not Found

2002-07-02 Thread Jinsuo Nie

Hello, Lyx experts,

I installed Lyx 1.2.0 for Win32 on Cygwin/Xfree86. It can not find the
document classes, all packages in Latex Configuration file are labeled
"Found: ???". Any idea?

figure in a float

2002-07-02 Thread Remzi Seker

Befroe lyx 1.2 the figure was automatically centered inside the float... Now
it doesn't. Did you guys put a switch somewhere or something? or I have to
\begin{center}
\end{center}
all the time?
Thanks \{endmail} ;)

Inserting images into LyX

2002-07-02 Thread Jacek Stolarczyk

Hi,

When I try to insert a EPS image (created with GIMP) I only get a black
frame with message "Error converting to loadable format" and a file name.

LyX-1.2.0, self compiled, Linux RedHat-6.2 (with lots of updates)

Regards,

Jacek Stolarczyk

Surely for a download version, it would make more sense to put them all
in a LyX or DVI file.

start LyX from commandline with
lyx -dbg graphics

and have a look at the output when you insert an image

a "not so nice" change in the behaviour ...
put the cursor left or right from the image and then
Layout->Paragraph->center

Thanks for the response. Actually another Edit->Reconfigure helped to
solve this problem (I could swear I did that already). Now everything
works as advertised :-)

[Your keyboard seems to be broken. But this is probably completely
unrelated.]

What does the configure output say when it talks about xforms?
