It was indeed twofold. For reference, here is what I've done: 1) in order to get variation tables (is that correct?) to compile correctly, I had to load the tkz-tab package instead of just tikz. (I guess it's a superset of tikz with commands such as \TkzTabLine and so on.) 2) My instant preview was indeed turned off, which I prefer for maths, but there is the "no maths" option, which previews just the drawings. I would have a full circle in the text line. 2 - The picture appears unmoved, in the pdf rendering Any comments will be appreciated thank you paolo m. Hello, It seems like, inline tikz figures ignores the white spaces around the figure. So, even if you shift the figure, you will not see a change in the PDF. To fix that you can use "baseline" as in: \tikz[baseline]{\draw (0,0pt) circle (4pt);} This seems to glue the 0,0 center point to the baseline. See the SE query at https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/416226/move-an-inline-tikz-node-vertically-to-align-with-baseline-of-surrounding-text I think this may help with your PDF output. When it comes to LyX rendering, I don't think you should expect too much from LyX. As far as I know, the "Instant Preview" option is not intended to show the perfect PDF output. Maybe it needs an adjustment with the inline Tikz figures. You can report this issue to the developers, if you wish. Baris test-inline-tikz-new.lyx Description: test-inline-tikz-new.lyx

tikz pictures rendering
Hi all, I don't know if this a lyx software issue or a tikz programming issue (i am rather new to tikz) I would like to lower a bit the circle in the 'in line' command: \tikz \draw (0,-9pt) circle (4pt); so that the circle appear shifted a little lower, with respect to the text line it is in. inserting the latex command: \tikz \draw (0,-9pt) circle (4pt); obtains: 1 - the picture, on the lyx display, effectively shifted downward, but its lower part has been cut away. I would have a full circle in the text line. 2 - The picture appears unmoved, in the pdf rendering Any comments will be appreciated thank you paolo m.

1- add float figure. 2- add latex code by Ctrl+L , then past your tikz code inside it. بتاريخ ١٠/١٠/٢٠١٧ ٢:٥١ م، كتب "Paolo M Pumilia" < paolo.m.pumilia.gnar...@gmail.com>: > How to attach label to a tikz picture, so as to be able to make a > reference to it from my text? > thank you > >

Re: Problem with fraction in TikZ insert
Many thanks Paul. Works like a charm. I had been coming to the conclusion that I was probably going to have to reinstall LyX since I could not get LyX to compile even when the expression $\dfrac{\pi}{4}$ was outside the TikZ environment. I tend to use those packages you and Jurgen stripped out, quite a lot so they are in my basic template. I am not likely to really need dfrac{} other than to duplicate the examples in the document I am working through so it's not likel to be a practical problem for me. Wait a minute! I find that find that $\dfrac{\pi}{4}$ works just fine with them loaded both inside and outside TikZ environment as long as I load the AMS package manually. Excellent. Thanks to both of you. Probably should have said that stripping out the \usepackage statements was not because there was a collision between them and something else -- it's because I don't have those packages installed (and did not want to install them just to go bug-hunting). Problem with fraction in TikZ insert
I have been experimenting with TikZ and have been through the manual TikZ pour l'impatient, (Gérard Tisseau et Jacques Duma) 15 novembre 2013 Everything was going well until I hit the second example on pg. 18. Everything is fine until I try to add a fraction , the \draw (22:1.5) node {$\dfrac{\pi}{4}$}; line and I don't see what is wrong. It looks like the problem is in the fraction expression because it works if I switch to \draw (22:1.5) node {$Z$};. The orignal works just fine in LaTeX. Am I missing something obvious or encountering a package conflix of some kind? Thank Jurgen. I had forgotten I even had them loaded. They are part of my normal template. The shortinsets-name is a relatively new one by Andrew Parsloe that hides long inset names giving less distraction for something like labels or cross-references Unfortuately I am still getting the same error after removing those modules and even reloading LyX. I even removed the local layout I had and stripped the preamble to nothing but \usepackage{tikz} with no better result. I, also, tried it in Lyx 2.1 with no luck. Hello: With tikz I would like to draw 2 curved arrows which touch each other tangentially. Example image attached. (I also asked this at the pfg-users list, see: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=31715628) Any help is appreciated. Thanks, bcsikos attachment: arrows.png

Re: Too few reruns for TikZ overlays
2013/11/18 Donjan Rodic Heiko states that the eventual goal is to have the changes incorporated into pgf/TikZ, but I can't find any report of progress. Do you or anyone happen to know whether the pgf maintainers are aware of this? Otherwise I'll ask on the pgf-users list. At least there is no request in the pgf bug tracker. So it would be a good idea if you filed one. Jürgen

The workaround of hitting Ctrl+R, adding a change (e.g. whitespace), then Ctrl+R again works, but clearly lacks in elegance. How can I produce the necessary output to help make Lyx check for the rerun? I'm attaching an example file that simply connects two points with an arrow line in an overlay. That line always lags behind one change step. cheers Donjan Rodic

You can write tikz code either via LyX's TeX mode (suitable for rather small code snippets) or in an external text file, which you include via Insert File Child Document Input (select Input, not Include). It is possible to use instant preview on this snippet (either via the Input dialog or by selecting the grey input box and doing Insert Preview). As for TikZ itself, there exist some programs which help generating the files, e.g. kTikZ, a genuine TikZ editor with instant preview (which I use myself) or TpX, a real graphical editor that apparently can export to tikz (never tried that): http://www.hackenberger.at/blog/ktikz-editor-for-the-tikz-language/ http://tpx.sourceforge.net/ I think also inkscape can export to tikz via some plugin. LyX does not include a graphical interface to tikz.

I know that we can define a converter of tikz to pdf in the preference dialog settings, then tikz can be viewed as a ordinary graphics file. However, in beamer presentation, we can not define the animation operations. So still I expect lyx can treat .tikz as tex code but with a manner more elegant. Any other experiences about the usage of tikz in lyx will also be appreciated. Thanks in advance, weidong

It worked after closing lyx and opening again. I can reproduce this by simply removing the preview box and saving the file.
