png graphics

2008-10-19 Thread Daniel Herzig
 Hello,

I've got a problem regarding inserting graphics into my thesis.
I already inserted one .png graphic (a scan converted into a 450x443 png), and
it shows up nicely in my pdf document in a suitable size (some 5x5cm) without
scaling in lyx. I don't really know how the word is called in English, but
used the insert freeflowing - object option. as described in the wiki, i
first inserted the graphics not in the frame, that appears next to
the object 1: label, but above it (option insert graphics). then i
deleted the label with the frame and wrote my own one. (in the wiki I read
that this is the only way to get the labels customized (position and name).

today i created another one, using gimp, which i saved as .png too (exactly
the same size). when i tried to insert it right above the header of the next
chapter (I'm planning to continue writing tomorrow morning), it didn't show
up at all in the .pdf (whereath visible in lyx; this just resulted in pushing
my footers of this page into the page number in the .pdf).
when i tried to insert it (the same way as described above) in another place ,
it showed up huge (filling almost the hole page) and transparently placed
over the text (whereath a gap in the text is visible for a freeflowing
object). scaling the object in lyx (to 25%) helps a bit, but 1) the page
mirror is somewhat distorted (resulting in some sentences being shown outside
the printable part of the page) and 2) the graphic is displayed in an ugly
way (without the bottom and left side of the frame).

I compared the two graphics and they have exactly the same characteristics
(.png, 32 bpp, 450x443, compression huffman (deflate), color: RGB/alpha/
although it's all greyscale). if i watch them in gimp they also have exactly
the same size.

Any help is greatly appreciated, because these are the only two, but rather
important graphics, that I use in my thesis.
I'm using:
lyx 1.5.3 linux
komaskript-book
latex preamble:
\let\oldquote\quote
\renewcommand\quote{\small\oldquote}

Lyx 1.5.1 and .png graphics and format files?

2007-08-14 Thread Kresten Bertelsen
Hi,
I run lyx 1.5.1 on a vista machine lyx.1.5.1 was installed with the
LyXWin151Complete-3-18.exe installer. The problem is that many of my older
documents include .png files. When I try to compile a document e.g. a pdf
with pdflatex I get an error message that there does not exist a converter
for pngeps and for converting format files to eps. What is a format file?
The graphics are rendered correctly in lyx.
I seem to have defined the pngeps correctly. At least Im not getting the
error anymore.

convert -color 256 $$i $$o.eps

But I'm still stucked with the error message about the format file
conversion to eps.
What is wrong? does any body knows?

Thanks in advanced

This is really weird because:
1. pdflatex by hand works for me

3. lyx with graphics (and times for example) works for me
4. for Paul everything works also with lyx

 What could it be?

Thanks for help, else I'm going to file a bug report.

The only thing I can suggest is to start lyx with -dbg all, try to
View-PDF (pdflatex) a file with graphics and Palatino, and see if
anything helpful is displayed in the shell window at the point where LyX
goes catatonic.

File with png graphics hangs lyx

2006-07-06 Thread Sven Schreiber
Don't know if this is a known bug; when using pdf (pdflatex), Lyx
doesn't respond while waiting for latex run 1 forever. The exported
latex compiles fine directly to pdf with Miktex (using Texniccenter).
Using other pdf-generating profiles works, so this is not a huge issue,
but still.

I attach a minimal example file as well as the exported latex.

Oh, this is on windows, and pdflatex usually works fine for me, but I
don't usually use png graphics.

Don't know if this is a known bug; when using pdf (pdflatex), Lyx

Using other pdf-generating profiles works, so this is not a huge issue,

I attach a minimal example file as well as the exported latex.

Oh, this is on windows, and pdflatex usually works fine for me, but I

I loaded your document into LyX 1.4.1 here (Win XP, MiKTeX but *not*
Texniccenter), substituted a PNG file I have (you didn't attach yours),
and viewed it via pdflatex with no problem. I routinely use PNG images
in PDF files and have not had LyX hang.

Have you tried other PNG files and had View-PDF (pdflatex) hang?
