Re: [mogtalk2] 1991 +8 imminent
Hi Mike Ferdi's looks good but I think I will need to start at Life's as the insurance company is requesting a valuation from an established Morgan Dealer. After that I will either try and do the servicing myself or find somewhere local to Stockport / Altrincham. On my way into the office this morning I passed a garage in Sale called Cross Street Motors and it had a Morgan in the service bay so maybe give them a look over. Cheers Derek On 24/08/2012 11:54, Mike Schofield morgan...@tiscali.co.uk wrote: Hi Derek, Welcome to Morgans I live in Lytham and whilst I've bought three Morgans from Life's - pleasurable experience all round except for the cheque signing bit - I became intrigued by what appeared to be a back street garage in Lytham called Ferdi's. He always seemed to have exotic Italian cars around. Mainly Alfa's but he also is well known for sorting Maseartis and Lamborghinis - plus more ordinary tin tops. Last time I was in he had just rebuilt a 1930's Talbot engine that was off racing. He first poked about my old Mog with interest, tweaked it and on collection gave me a catalogue of faults and a right old rollicking with smile on his face. 10 years later I'm still going there for everything as his prices are very reasonable. And Lytham isn't a bad place to spend the day either. Re: [mogtalk2] 1991 +8 imminent
This is all very reassuring, I fully appreciate the car is 21 years old so it is bound to need some TLC but having restored several classics this should not be a problem. The tyres and shock absorbers did look original and I will change them over the winter along with anything else that comes to light. There are two Morgan Dealerships near to me, Monksheath which is a very new dealership and Life Motors in Southport. But would be very interested if any one has a recommendation near Stockport/Manchester? Derek On 23/08/2012 10:44, Colin Mackay m...@ault-dearg.freeserve.co.uk wrote: Derek Yes that's the car I thought it was. Colin found that he wasn't using the car and almost 2 years ago he thought that it was sold but the guy pulled out on the morning he was supposed to come and collect it. He then placed it with the original Morgan dealer in Scotland, where it was on the website for a while before he totally cut his Morgan links. I wondered where it had gone. I am sure that you should get many years and miles of enjoyment from the car once it has been treated to fresh fluids all round (brake and clutch too) and probably tyres as at the mileage they may well be the originals. The price quoted on the web was sharp so well done! You Guy's should be Detectives, you have all identified the car which I think was previously owned by Colin Milligan? Anyway it looked in very good condition and well looked after when I went up to see it, but I was unable to get underneath to have a good look at the chassis or check the front wheels for any play. My Wife drove the car but it then started very heavy rain so although I had been driven a good distance in the car I never got to actually drive it. I know that is not the ideal way to purchase but it just seemed to good to miss! The seller has coated the underneath in black Waxoil but assures me there was no corrosion and I have nothing to fear. The way my Bank is going it will probably be late next week now before the funds have transferred and I can pick up the car. I am still trying to persuade SWMBO that I can keep the Stag as well but think I am fighting a lost cause. Once it is home, I suggest you make the most of the summer/autumn whatever the weather, and take the car for a few good runs. Any issues etc will come to light then. If you think my grin was big, after driving the car for a few miles on the test drive SWMBO looked like a cat that had just found the cream and more! The only response to did she like it was BUY IT! So I did! Just worried having seen the Wheeler Dealer program, but got good advice from Jim +8 in Wilmslow, so am taking a chance. No I found the car on a website at a company based in Wishaw nr Glasgow called DVD Cars, went up to see it and almost fell in love! Unfortunately all the main dealers wanted more than I could afford although I could have gone for a 4 but just love the V8. I am in Marple Cheshire so will have a long drive back but cannot wait.
