Hello Hans.
Is it possible that I'm still not working? I just updated and always ends the
same compilation error.
My older projects do not compile. It can be a problem in anything else?
When I ignore the error message,  then finally generates a PDF file, but the
first three rows in PDF file are listed keywords:

Hello All!

Inspired by the recent ConTeXt meeting where I again enjoyed meeting
other users as well as the developers, I'm wondering if there are any
other ConTeXt users in Finland? And if so, would you be interested in
a mini-meeting for an afternoon or evening, possibly at my work in
Vantaa?

If nothing else, we could tell each other what we do with ConTeXt and
get ideas and with luck even be able to sort out some problems. I'm
far from the nerdiest person in the world, but I could probably manage
a short introduction to ConTeXt, if you are interested but haven't
gotten started or if you know people who'd like to try but don't want
to do it by themselves.

BTW, if any ConTeXt users (Finnish or others) pass by Helsinki airport
or the Greater Helsinki area, you are welcome to informally pop into
our office and I'll give you coffee/tea and cookies (if we have any)
and any ConTeXt help I can give. Just check on this in advance as I'm
not always there, but often can arrange things if notified a few days
earlier.

Hi,
is there any practical solution to convert a context-document into a
rtf-document? (Unfortunately I must send my  documents to word users :-(  )
I do not need a perfect rtf file. It would be sufficient if the footnotes and
headings would be tranformed. (Layout / Tabells etc are not so important)

I've read the FAQ and I know there is no tool like latex2rtf.  In 2005 (five
years ago) there was a approach to the problem on the mailing list, which
suggest to write the document in xml and the produce on pdf and one html file.
Is this a practical solution or is it, if you have absolute no idea about xml
like me, a to time consuming approach?

I've also tried some free pdftortf tools, but so far the results were
disillusioning :-(.
I am open for any suggestions ;-).
Greetings
FloMo

[NTG-context] Summary of user wishes for streams

2010-08-23 Thread Salil Sayed
Hi,
We have rather few suggestions and they are not coming anymore. So I am
summarizing what we have so far. Since my typesetting vocabulary is meager I
choose to present it graphically. Then again my apologies for poor graphics as
I did not attempt it in metapost.
Below is the collection of the posts and attached is a pdf of a drawing
generated in inkscape. I can send the original svg if needed.

translation of the same text running on opposite page while the original runs
on left/right page. In my thesis these are not translations, but correlated

texts need to be designed differently.
To extrapolate this facility, if columns on one page can run such parallel
texts then we can have multiple translations running together.

edition). I'd like to be able to reproduce such layout.
Taco:I would like to do something slightly more general: it would be nice

Philipp:three items I'd like to add:  * horizontal split page layout (upper and

streams on the left page,    another stream on the facing page), and  * easy
reprinting (i.e. a photographic reproduction as one stream on    the left and a
text stream on the right page).I've seen all of this in printed books so it
would be a pity to live ina world where the best typesetting system can't do
that. Some of this Ialready mentioned to Hans a while ago, maybe he remembers.

http://bayimg.com/oaoPpaaChhttp://bayimg.com/PAOpAAaChhttp://bayimg.com/pAopbaAchhttp://bayimg.com/pAOpDAaCHhttp://bayimg.com/PaoPeAAch
Shows clearly that the streams are synced at every section (and thattranslation

[NTG-context] collecting user wishes for streams related functionalities

2010-08-18 Thread Salil Sayed
Hi All,

Hans will starting looking into the development of 'streams' for mkvi soon. So
let us gather our wishes for these functions so that the interface can be well
thought of beforehand. Please respond to this thread with your wishes and I
might compile them later in one place if doing so makes sense.

To begin with here is my first wish:

Being able to flow multiple texts in parallel. A simple case is a translation
of
the same text running on opposite page while the original runs on left/right
page. In my thesis these are not translations, but correlated texts written for
different audiences. (think of levels in a CG game) So the texts need to be
designed differently.

To extrapolate this facility, if columns on one page can run such parallel
texts
then we can have multiple translations running together.

Best regards,

Salil

Re: [NTG-context] basic \cite[]

2010-04-18 Thread Salil Sayed
In mkIV the option seems mandatory too. Otherwise I get the empty brackets. But
only the authoryear and authoryears works for me. Not authornum.

This is how I use it. (following the habit of using natbib in Latex)

\usemodule[bib]
\setupbibtex
 [database={Manuscript},
  sort=author]
\setuppublications[numbering=yes]
\def\LocalRefList {\subject{References}\placepublications[criterium=chapter,
option=continue]}
\def\citet[#1]{\cite[authoryear][#1]}
\def\citep[#1]{\cite[authoryears][#1]}

The line
\def\LocalRefList {\subject{References}\placepublications[criterium=chapter,
option=continue]}
worked in mkII but not in mkIV.

Re: [NTG-context] libertine otf file not recognised

2010-04-09 Thread Salil Sayed
Amazing! the fonts from CTAN work perfect. And they are also so much more. I
wonder why the main site of libertine is so out of date.

Thanks a lot. That takes my move from mkII to mkVI one step further. I have
another issue for which I will start a new thread.

Best regards,

Salil

 What can be the problem?
Perhaps the version number in the file name (which contains dots).
IIRC, this or a similar issue popped up a few months ago. Perhaps
 I even replied then.

I haven't checked this since i wrote the bug report because i use now
the libertine fonts from ctan what i suggest for Salil too, the libertine
fonts from sourceforge are more than a year old and the ctan version
was updated recently and has also more styles for biolinum.

[NTG-context] streams! atleast the left||right synchronization mechanism

2010-04-09 Thread Salil Sayed

Hi,

As I am moving from mkII to mkIV with my thesis manuscript, I need to make the
'left||right synchronization mechanism' to work. I worked beautifully in mkII.
I looked in the source of the module but could not make out where the issue is.
I errors I get today begin like this.

what is this ( \v! ) thing? where can I get the clues? Does it come from Tex

[NTG-context] libertine otf file not recognised

2010-04-08 Thread Salil Sayed
I have the following problem with mkVI. (updated today)

__
systems : begin file env_manuscript at line 4
(../env_manuscript.tex (/media/documents/test/type-libertine.tex)
!define font: forced type otf of /home/me/.fonts/LinLibertine_Re-4.4.1 not
found
!define font: font with name /home/me/.fonts/LinLibertine_Re-4.4.1 is not
found
!define font: unknown font /home/me/.fonts/LinLibertine_Re-4.4.1, loading
aborted
!define font: unable to define linuxlibertineo as \*Libertine11ptrmtf*
)
systems : end file env_manuscript at line 4
)
__

the relevant line in my typescript is thus:

\definefontsynonym [LibertineRegular] [name:linuxlibertineo]
[features=default]

All other otf fonts in the same directory work. The libertine fonts (from the
same files) work with other applications such as gedit, inkscape etc.
(obviously not with openoffice)

What can be the problem?

best,
Salil

[NTG-context] zotero

2010-02-11 Thread Salil Sayed
Hi,

Today I checked zotero plugin for openoffice and was very impressed with its
functionality and ease of use. Currently I have to export my bibliographies to
bibtex format from zotero and then use it through the bibtex module in context.
I think this is a awkward way.

Can there be a closer connection? a zotero plugin or context module? Or will it
be an editor function?

Forgive me if i am ignorant of any development. I searched.

Best,

Salil

Re: [NTG-context] zotero

2010-02-11 Thread Salil Sayed

zotero is a firefox plugin (hence a wrapped javascript object) that uses an
sqlite database. there is another firefox zotero plugin for openoffice which
adds a toolbar to openoffice and lets you choose the citations and styles from
within dialog boxes and dynamically change/update them.

So we can either

1. access it through firefox while firefox is open
2. or write a zotero plugin to export in a format more suitable for context
(.bbl?). Zotero also exports to various other formats including its own Zotero
RDF.
3. or have an plugin in an editor which lets us choose citation directly from
an open firefox instance

or a combination of these.

zotero is only 4 years old and was downloaded 4million times in last year
according to its website http://www.zotero.org . Considering that it is used
only by academic researchers it is a huge phenomena.

as i never use bibliographies i have no clue what zotero is but we could
probably read it in (asusming it's xml) just like a bibtex file

Dear Hraban,

This works beautifully for my purpose. The section no. continue from one text
to the other which looks wrong but so far I think I can do without them. I have
not tried putting figures and other things yet. As I make progress with the
book I will experiment more. But that will take a while.

Thanks,

[NTG-context] Multiple text flows

2010-01-20 Thread Salil Sayed
Hi,

My book needs to have two separate texts for two different audiences. I get the
inspiration from
http://books.google.co.in/books?id=qdltz8N9qSEClpg=PP1dq=the%20body%20multiplepg=PP1#v=onepageq=f=false.

Here the author is separating each page on two parts. The top text is
descriptive while lower text is literature research relating to the upper text.

I want to have one text flowing on right page and another on left. However,
they are interconnected i.e. parallel. So there needs to be an anchoring
mechanism so that on each right-left page couple they are talking about the
same thing.

I am new to ConText but not shy of programming. I can explore any clues you
give.

Thanks,

Salil
