Re: [OmniOS-discuss] Dell H330 and mpt_sas on r151022

2017-07-04 Thread Aries
Thank you for replay.

Yes. AFAIK, the hardware of H330 should be as same as the LSI SAS3008.

But as it is an OEM Dell branded card with choppy firmware, sadly, it's not
supported by the sas3flash utility.

Unlike the 2008 series, I cannot find a way to crossflash it to the IT firmware
for the moment.

The PCI-id is 1000 005f which is a MegaRaid.

Maybe I should go for a proper 3008 card or a Dell HBA330 card to save some
time...

Cheers,
Aries

The H330 looks awfully like Broadcom/LSI's 9300-8i:

<URL:https://www.broadcom.com/products/storage/host-bus-adapters/sas-9300-8i#specifications>

What happens when you sas3flash the Dell HBA with the LSI SAS3008
IT firmware?

Also, what's the PCI ID for the H330?

I'd have to poke at the release notes and relevant patches, but I wonder if
it's a matter of updating /etc/driver_aliases to change the binding to
mpt_sas for that specific PCI ID?

2017-06-30 Thread Aries
Thank you for replay and your effort on napp-it. I really love it!

Actually the Dell H330 only has one hybrid mode firmware which can be switched
between raid and HBA modes. All the distributions include Solaris and linux
regard this kind firmware of H330 as IR mode regardless of the raid or HBA
mode. Although I always put it in HBA mode, the mr_sas or something similar is
used. Therefore when I read the release note of r151022, I was surprised that
OmniOS started to support H330 via mpt_sas. However the test result seems a bit
disappointing.

By the way, do you notice any performance decreases in the release r151022?

Aries

I suppose you are on an IR/Raid firmware. The better one would be
a raidless and often faster IT firmware (mpt_sas). But I cannot say if
