In view of this I need to know how we can get started on Mecca and what sort of costs are associated with it. Best regards Emelia Hi Emelia, I would recommend ADempiere instead. Please see www.adempiere.com. Mecca as it is does not have the robust community nor technical advancement that ADempiere enjoyed. Mecca has the functionality but it is arguable when we begin to look at any roadmap of future growth that requries the above stated. If you are speaking about a combined effort for Ghana at a national level i do not mind travelling at the invitation of any sponsor there to evangelise on a way forward to extend and build upon ADempiere for the university fraternity. In turn, with your country resources a joint effort with also some universities from our side can result in a self contribution to the ADempiere community and project. This can be a good way to brand Ghana and extend its influence over other neighbouring states that began to need guidance on using and extending open source. I cc to the adempiere project and local communities for their interest. I would really suggest that you let Tun Dr. Mahathir write in his own word, without any external influence on the choices of word. However I was made to understand that it is not that easy without considerable effort and investment from many parties such as institutions, academicians and enthusiasts. Within the government, Mampu was tasked to promote and propagate strategies among the government agencies to adopt it. There is need to not only master the software but also to convince the right parties to use it. The open source movement depends heavily on a wide community of enthusiasts and practitioners to support and strenghten it. After leaving the government, the idea of open source did not stop there. We do have our local but loose community of sorts. Working in concert with the ir global counterparts, they not only continue to preach and master it, but are willing to come together and share it. I was given the honour to officiate the Malaysian Open Source Developers Club (OSDC.my) at our first International Open Source Conference in Kuala Lumpuer recently. One of its members, namely the author of this book has for a number of years, succesfully led a global and local community of participants and users of diverse backgrounds and languages to improve further on what is called Open Source ERP. What is amazing is he does this online while staying within a farm somewhere in Malaysia. This is something that not only amazes others but may inspire many of us here to rethink that the odds from global giants may not be as formidable as they sound. A local university, is brave enough to introduce his works as a first ever Masters course when it is not yet available as such in the universtiies of Harvard and Oxford. What it takes is a right idea and a confidence to compete on an open and entirely new playing field. The success of our ordinary fellow countrymen can be our humble gift to the world, at least as ideas to further share and build upon. I hope this book helps to further the cause of the community and the needy humanity particularly of the 3rd world that cannot afford expensive foreign softwares. I wish them every success that they deserve. Dr. Mahathir Mohammad Awaiting your advice. Why waste any money at all? There are providers out there which provide spectacular service like GitHub and BitBucket. And with distributed source control like git, you continue to commit locally until a time you have a decent connection to push to remote. So having local servers are a moot point. To spend 30 mil, question is how much the outflow that we really have for Sourceforce from local net. That the first million we need to spend. To know about it. :) We dont want mirror sourceforge will make Malaysia Internet line overflow with International traffic. Another problem to think about. Mirror OSCC already over utilize bandwidth for Mirror. Ubuntu and Fedora are the main culprit. Download from outsite Malaysia more than local traffic. Let propose different way. 30 mil to create one central cloud service for Malaysia OSS community to work with and link together. Move Adempire in the cloud and create training env around it for this community to learn to used SVN GIT Track and contribute. [osdcmy-public] Re: Thomas Reiter from Germany
Hi Tom, Its freezing already? Wow i envy you. :) Ok, i and azrul will digest your context for flex. I am still looking at making a big integration effort nevertheless with Pentaho or Spagobi that can give beyond the analytics u need. If we can add in flex, and stand one notch higher. The big news now, if you follow our forums, is that we re getting MySQL onto ADempiere! Now, if you wana come over, make it December 14-16 during www.iiwas.org where i may be launching my book http://www.adempiere.com/images/3/35/PearsonBookCover.jpg got some nice inside legend http://www.adempiere.com/index.php/Image:Bookcoverppl.gif We be launching it with ex PM, Dr. Mahathir and key govt figures. Now that is one place i want you to look smart and sharp :) cos i be intoducing u around and you can do your 'selling' to those big guns. Some of them hold decisive positions. May fund you and me from one stop if we are lucky. Well... we cna just plan. Will keep u posted on the book launch planning so you can synch your trip with it. I cc the local community to catch in some of this buzz. red1 Thomas Reiter wrote: Hi Redhuan, Apologies for slow follow-up, but am badly tied up with my business over here. Hope to meet with Thomas Kreser within the next ten days or so re your Dummies proposition. Once I get an idea where to look for what kind of bracket, I can calculate the potential market size and then we put something in writing that could launch a fund raising exercise. Thomas didn't have time to meet during an exhibition in Munich this week, which was the most pathetic thing I've seen since Microsoft launched Windows ME; a complete and total loss of time. A tradeshow at its height in the early 2000s, during the dot-com craze, and which is now in a state of agony. Nonetheless, there was an ERP vendor (Alphaplan) with a fairly large booth, selling their goods at some Euro 1.500 per user (they were not exactly busy though). There were more document management vendors, one of which reacted almost angrily when being asked about open source competition (Alfresco), which indicates that they're having a some problem with this competition. Anyway, for my project, I hope to have specs ready by end of next week at the latest. As for budget, I don't want to spend more than €1.500 for the demo version, since it's such a long shot. Just spoke to a retired banker who used to fund a project in a similar sphere and although he encouraged me, since outsourcing has great promise, he told me that I should not expect German customers to sign up for this kind of service anytime soon. So my key objective is to get anything at all working for US - UK - Scandinavian markets and then just go on the road to try and sell the idea. The interface I've customized with A. standard components is still kind if unwieldy, but if the dashboard looks fine, it will be OK, so I believe. For that purpose I would need an Adempiere installation with menu according to my needs and, most importantly, a dashboard that could at least in part show the potential of such application. As for technologiy, I've looked up a number of sites and I believe Adobe Flex is still the best out there (see sample on http://examples.adobe.com/flex3/devnet/dashboard/main.html). If you think we could get something like this (linked to A.) going, let's go and try. Glad to offer to the community, hopefully anyone could use. If you think it makes sense, I'll hop over to KL for a few days or so to talk all through. This whole thing has become important to me, although I'm getting less than stellar comments. I don't want to let it go before some 100 potential clients have told me no use. That's it for now from rainy and freezy Germany and I remain, Kind regards Tom --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ Join Open Source Developers Club Malaysia http://www.osdc.my/ Facebook Fan page http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=98685301577 http://www.facebook.com/OSDC.my You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups OSDC.my Mailing List group.
