Re: [Owfs-developers] DS2890 support

2012-05-25 Thread Paul Alfille
We haven't withdrawn support for any devices, so it should work, though I
haven't actually tested the DS2890 recently.

 Hello!
Paul despite the fact that the company Maxim considers the DS2890
technically obsolete and not ready for new designs, which also assumes
probably wrongly they are still being made, is OWFS still supporting
 this part number?

Strangely enough the machine that's now running Linux there aren't any
actual serial ports, just a grouping of USB ports, and since I've used
the DS9097 adapters via a USB to RS232 adapter who swings properly, on
Windows as it happens. Its just that I've not tried to use the
programs that way yet on Linux.

And in case anyone is interested, on page 11 bottom half of the data
sheet for the LM334 constant current source once made by National
Semiconductor now made by Texas Instruments, there is an example of a
circuit who uses the part plus two resistors, one fixed and one that
is a variable resistor for trimming. As for how the One-Wire part
would be used there, in place of the regular variable resistor, I'm
 not sure.

[Owfs-developers] OWFS Program Differences

2012-05-25 Thread R_Have

I have been running a OWFS for about a year now, following some great
examples on the owfs website.
However I would like to know more about the full programs. Currently I am
using owfs, but can anyone explain the differences between owfs, owhttpd,
and owserver, and situations where you would use one verses another.

Thanks R Haveman

I'm (we) only using owserver (and owhttpd conneting to it), guess the
name owfs is also somewaht misleading nowadays (owfs is a quite old
[not negative!] project which started by exposing 1-Wire into fuse;
Thats fine for small stuff still, for 10k sensors etc. one would/could
live without ;)
Fuse is nice stuff on full-fledged platforms but gets a pain an
smaller systems very soon..

The good news is, you can use it in any combination: I'd start with
owserver talking to the busmasters and anything else to owserver, just
my 5ct..

[Owfs-developers] mdns support

2012-05-25 Thread Gregg Levine
Hello!
I imagine we're still using mdns support on our programs. The releases
for Slackware never made it past the 10.1 sequence. Which is what I
expected as the site for them has practically ceased operations. I
don't know if this works for the distributions everyone else is using
but it worked here. I went to this website:
http://www.science.uva.nl/research/air/wiki/mDNSResponderInstallation
and followed the steps there. There is a location on the links for the
released code that's telling people what the most recent is. I found
an RC script elsewhere, in this series of steps:
https://trac.ci.uchicago.edu/accessgrid/browser/trunk/packaging/linux/slackware/SL-11.0/mDNSResponder/Slack.build?rev=6305

It's for 11 but that's okay, the rc.d method of doing things has
changed very little since 7.1 and naturally now. About all that has
happened is that the system is definitely on the 2.6 series of kernels
which means udev is the big ticket..

Paul which distribution are you using? Is it OpenSuse? Or FC? Or something else?
