Hi.

I'm happily using a USB sound card with a microphone hooked up to it. It
does what I want, but I'm curious about headset/microphone combinations for
the PC. The headset needs to be stereo. I'm looking for either USB or blue
tooth options. Also, I need something that doesn't cost me the PC to get
it.

Thanks in advance for any information.

GoldWave's Doppler Features

2015-08-08 Thread Danny Miles
Hi everyone. I'm having great fun playing around with GoldWave at the
moment and am trying to work out how to use the presets and controls
in the Doppler area to create different content. I usually find the
GoldWave manual really helpful for explaining what results should
occur from different actions and what each control does (so that it
can be adjusted accordingly) but I feel completely unenlightened after
looking at this section of the Help menu. Is there a problem with
completing tasks here because of the manual's suggestion of using the
mouse or can Jaws be used to create the same results?

Sorry for what I'm sure is a very basic question but any help, either
on or off list, will be much appreciated. I think I'm using GoldWave
5.65 (I know, I haven't updated for a while) but I imagine not much
has changed over time.

Many thanks, Danny

There are many out there, probably the most well known is the Logitech
H800 which has been discussed many times on the list.

Like everything it has its advantages and disadvantages, its cheap and yep, a
very cheap build.

Has quite nice sound when using it with USB on your computer but Bluetooth
certainly needs to be
upgraded.

Can be used whilst the battery charges.

Folds up for easy carrying.

Has controls for answering/ending calls, skipping backwards and forwards
through tracks and so on.

Note that the answering/ending buttons may not work with Skype, this is a known
problem with the
set.

Warning beep sounds when batteries are running down, battery life is around 8
hours.

A nice pair of headphones for chatting but nothing particularly special when it
comes to music
listening, build is terrible so don't expect the headphones to last too long.

I think this product is around $50 so no, not too expensive, if you want
something that will dazzle
and excite you with its performance then try something like the Senheiser
MM-500.

Okay thanks, yes this H800 is a good headset for general use but
certainly not a professional quality pair of headphones by any manner
of means and neither would anyone consider it so for the price though
it has many attributes to recommend the device, works very well with Skype
 has been optimised for
that sort of thing.

Excellent microphone for voice chat which works well and has good noise
 cancelation properties.

There are many out there, probably the most well known is the
 Logitech
H800 which has been discussed many times on the list.

Like everything it has its advantages and disadvantages, its cheap and yep,
 a very cheap build.

Has quite nice sound when using it with USB on your computer but
Bluetooth certainly needs to be upgraded.

Can be used whilst the battery charges.

 Folds up for easy carrying.

Has controls for answering/ending calls, skipping backwards and
 forwards through tracks and so
 on.
Note that the answering/ending buttons may not work with Skype, this
is a known problem with the set.

Warning beep sounds when batteries are running down, battery life is around
 8 hours.

A nice pair of headphones for chatting but nothing particularly
special when it comes to music listening, build is terrible so don't
 expect the headphones to
 last
 too long.
I think this product is around $50 so no, not too expensive, if you
want something that will dazzle and excite you with its performance
 then try something like the
 Senheiser MM-500.

One of the better Bluetooth headsets you've used? That being the case then
you're easily satisfied
and have not heard a better quality bluetooth headset smile.

Yep, okay for just playing audio in most cases but absolutely dreadful!
when using it in speaker phone mode but - as I said earlier - its a cheap
headset and - given that -
I guess one can't really complain.

If you're going to be looking for a bluetooth headset for communication this
the Logitech H800 just
isn't it, using the wireless dongle with the headset on your PC or Mac is
brilliant.

Multi Room Sound Controlled By Your Android Device

2015-08-08 Thread Dane Trethowan

I've had a Bose Soundtouch Portable for 9 months.

Initially the only way of controlling the Soundtouch was via the IOS
Smartphone App but Android Lollypop has changed all that, the Soundtouch
Android App works quite well and I'm able to get to most of the
functions I need, I can search for stations, browse the station list,
look at what I've recently listened to, select which preset I wish to
hear, browse my media library on my UPNP media server, select what I
want to listen to on pandora and so on.

I'm not saying that accessibility can't be improved upon because it
certainly can but enough information in the App is provided to give you
a hand and an idea of where you are and what you're doing, given that
then there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to make near to full
use of the Soundtouch system as intended.

The Bose Soundtouch system comes in 4 models to my knowledge, the small
portable which has a surprising level of sound which will easily fill a
medium-sized room or apartment and is fully portable and can run from
its internal battery and moved from room to room, the mid-sized tabletop
model, a bigger tabletop and the Wave Soudtouch which incorporates multi
band radio - including AM and Digital radio in some countries - and a
Multi format CD player.

Yes, there are differing opinions on the quality of Bose audio - my
opinion is that the sound from Bose products isn't what I'd get from
other stuff I have - however a couple of things are clear, Bose as a
company make products that are easy to use, convenient to use and their
service/support is second to none.

When I first got the Soundtouch last year I wanted to know how to update
the firmware so I rang Bose to ask, Bose asked for my details and I had
a chap on the phone next day from Bose who arranged an in-house
appointment with me to show me what steps I needed to take, I certainly
didn't expect that and was hoping for a read from the manual, the
procedure is laid out but the buttons one needs to pressed are depicted
in picture form as is so often the case with manuals these days.

That's cool. They actually sent someone. Yeah I like Bose speakers well enough.
My only beaf now is they don't have a 7.1 system at the very least. I have
heard speakers that seem to have more highs. Which I love for things like
Godzilla 1998's tornado blast roar as the toy boxes always called it.
Seriously especially Trendmasters. Ahahahahaha! Right now the crispist thing I
have is the JBL speakers in my Samsung TV-monitor. I love hearing Zilla roar on
those. You hear the wistle nice and sharp. The Soundlink system 3 did pretty
good with this. Shockingly better then the Companion 5 vurtual surround sound
USB speaker system. The Soundlink Mini onthe other hand, not so well. The Mini
2 which is now shaped like the system 3 and has the buttons in the same order
as the system 3 did a bit better and worse. Wander how the sound touch stuff
will do.
