RE: Warning to the UKians (and possibly other Europeons)
You've all quite forgotten the correct etiquette. When you wish to make acquaintance, you must have one of your servants (footman is acceptable) call at the premises where the wished-for acquaintance resides, and leave your calling card with the butler (who may not be the person who opens the door to him, as that is the job of a lower ranked servant) - you must not, of course, deliver the card yourself. The card will then be taken to the person nominated, usually on a silver tray, who will decide whether the relationship is to be pursued. If so, he/she will have a message delivered to your household, informing you of the time and date when you may present yourself for the first meeting. This will normally be in the morning, but not for lunch, as this is only attended by invited guests of good character and some acquaintance. Colonial persons should be advised that it is most unlikely that they will be received into society at the first instance. Bombarded by news of new Nikons.
So I expect that all of you have been made aware one way or another of the Nikon D5 and D500 cameras. Pretty much every electronics site that it's my misfortune to belong to has sent me an announcement. The specifications are quite impressive. There's been a bit of noise on various Nikon fora in the past that the K-5 and later the K-3 cameras had taken the mantle of the Nikon D300s as the Top enthusiast/semi pro APS-C camera body. Seems that after literally years of begging, by Nikon fanboys for a new D300s Nikon has decided to reclaim that mantle. I could be wrong but it looks like Nikon really does pay attention to Pentax. -- I don't want to achieve immortality through my work; I want to achieve immortality through not dying. -- Woody Allen -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Looking back at very difficult year
Hi Boris: Very sad to hear about your difficult year. Darrel & I send our condolences. It seems you and I have had a similar kind of year. In January my very best friend of 20 plus years had a heart attack and died at the age of 54. Then in July, my dad died, and now my mom is not doing very well and is in a rehabilitation center. Mom and dad were married for 56 years. I try to remember all the good memories and hold close to the idea that the way we honor those who have left us is to live our lives to the fullest knowing life must go on. Re: Boris 2016 #02 - Etude
Boris, I enjoyed both of your recent photos. Pairing with music is a nice idea, - but I didn't have time to do this morning, - I am in the process of preparing for a conference trip tomorrow. I actually thought that those cranes is a good feature in this photo, even though it would be rather different without them. With them, the photo is less "generic", has more dynamics (from the juxtaposition). May 2016 be a better year for you and your family! Igor P.J. Re: OT: Meanwhile at TOP.
But that's the thing, I have collected 85, 100 135 and 150mm lenses and used them all. When you jump from 85 to 150 in the same session you might notice but changing from 85 to 100 or 135 to 150, really doesn't make that much difference. The last of those lenses I got was the 135, and really I used it more than the 150 because it was more convenient. It wasn't that I liked it more or liked it less. Lunchtime Visitor
Took a break and sat outside at noon today. This guy was too distant — the pic is only about 30% of frame — so it’s nothing special. But it’s a nice example of lens performance. K-3 DFA 150-450, f5.6, 1/1250th, ISO 1250, handheld, 450mm. I like the way this combination locks in focus, but at this distance, about 70 feet I’d guess, finding the critter in the tree is a chore. Re: Lunchtime Visitor
Paul, It is a nice picture, but I am curious about a certain aspect of it that might be a characteristic of the lens: The background (especially the green from the tree right in the middle of the photo) seems to have some type of high-frequency "jitter". I wonder what's the origin of that? I could see a few different possible sources: 1. strange bokeh in combination with the small features of the tree 2. camera shake (motion blur) that is compensated for the in-focus items, but not quite for the background. 3. sharpening combined with one of the above 4. ... (?) What do you think? Igor On Wed, Jan 6, 2016 at 2:10 PM, Paul Stenquist wrote: Took a break and sat outside at noon today.
