Re: PESO - Spiral
I agree. I often wonder why "spiral" is used to describe such staircases. Spirals are actually 2D shapes (like a clock spring) wheras the 3D version is a Helix (like DNA). Some pundits say that a helix is simply a 3D spiral with constant radius. Re: July PUG is up
Very nice PUG. I am very fond of trees and leaves. Everyone has mentioned Hosta, very graphic. I would like to mention some others. David Mann's Frost, proving simpler is often better. Jan Van Wijk's Victoria Amazonia is sort of startling, never seen leaves like that. At first I thought they were big caterpillars, very unusual. Not Quite Grown by Paul Sorenson, great lightening and framing. Leaves really jump out. And Lisbon by Rick Womer. I like how it was taken really close up. Holes were intriguing -- I kept thinking I might see something through them (city scene, skyline, some eyes looking, something). Heh. One one of the advantages of coming back to PDML is looking at the monthly PUG. Thanks, folks. Intriguing image. Prefer the sharper Flicker shot but the hidden mystery lurking in the scene is somehow stirred by the softer scene. Dog was fortunate. PESO -- Signature Bridge! [or The Best Laid Plans].
Signature Bridge, (no not that one the other one). I wish this image really could stand alone, but it requires some backstory. About thirty years ago plans were laid to replace the Pearl Harbor Bridge over the Quinnipiac River at the north end of New Haven Harbor. A great deal of money was expended to secure the plans for a very nice signature suspension bridge, as a gateway to the New Haven. Unfortunately the bridge is only really visible from one approach, but still it would be a pretty good view. Over the next thirty years there was much dithering while debate proceeded in a desultory fashion over getting enough funding to replace the original bridge, a nondescript ribbon of highway not much different than a typical on ramp to a section of raised highway. In the meantime the Tomlinson Bridge, a low draw bridge over the Quinnipiac was replace with an lift bridge the one you can see in the foreground of this image. So the State of Connecticut has spent a great deal of money on a signature bridge that pretty much fails to because it cannot be seen from the one approach where it would be visible. https://pdml.updog.co/webster26/PESO%20--%20signaturebridge.html Equipment: Pentax K5II w/smc Pentax F 70-210mm f4.0~5.6. I was going to do a leaving image but other events interceded. It was one of those “God willing and the creek don’t rise” commitments to self. And then the creek rose. 26 inches of muddy water in my garage. Clean up coming along, I keep thinking that the end is in sight but then finding something else that needs to be cleaned or discarded and replaced. The light at the end of the tunnel is a train coming in my direction… But I did take time to look through the very impressive collection of leaf images. stan > On Jul 5, 2017, at 9:43 AM, ann sanfedelewrote: > > damn! how did we all miss doing that?
