Re: Inexpensive Pentax AC adapter

2017-08-08 Thread John

Neither one of them list the K-1.

And although the Ricoh lists the K-1 under Products on their web site,
it doesn't give you anything about the K-1 if you select it. It gives
you "up to 3 products to compare" and you have to select from the GRII,
WG-M2, Pentax K-50, Pentax KP and WG-50.

The same holds true for the 645Z, K-3 II, K-70 and Theta. Only the
Pentax KP gives you any kind of a link to the product.

What are you gonna' do?

They are cropped, but not dramatically I have tried several flowers, and
am indeed contemplating a series. I like the relative flatness of the
images because I was thinking of them as abstracts, but trying some
lighting effect to vary the appearance of the blossoms is a great idea.

Even nicer than the previous one. Brilliant idea using the pool as a
background, it works perfectly. My one quibble is that having lots more
space to the left of the flower than below it is just a little
disconcerting to my eye. I do like how the stamen/pistil(?) is lined up
right in the diagonal. Even so, it might be worth at least trying
trimming from the left and top so that the space on the left is the same
or 1.5 times the space underneath. That would also have the advantage of
making the flower larger in the picture.

How tight of a crop is it already? If you have lots of space on either
side to work with, once it's repositioned, you could try rotating it.

In any case, I love the background, you could do a whole series like
this. If you do, maybe try shooting with a speedlight from the side to
get a little more shape and definition on the flower.

Re: PESO: Floating Too

2017-08-08 Thread Rick Womer
I like this a lot.

Could you please add a blank line between the photo link and the
camera and exposure information? Gmail runs the link and the "K-5"
together to yield a 404 error; and making it impossible to view your
images on my iPhone.

Cheers,

Rick

Dan, placing these just slightly
left of center works due to their
"facing" to the right indicating
they are possibly floating in that
direction.

You can watch LIVE coverage from Alaska's Brooks River in Katmai National
Park. Every year over a hundred Brown Bears descend on a mile long stretch
of Brooks River to feast on the largest Sockeye Salmon run in the world.

Right now, one can see salmon trying to jump over the falls, and grizzlies
in the river looking for a meal.

Re: PESO - Forest's Edge

2017-08-08 Thread Mark C

Thanks, Larry.

I'm surprised and happy with the results from DK50. I picked up a couple
packets of the dry mix years ago at a photo store, not really knowing
what it is. Reading about it I got the impression it was primarily a
sheet film developer, not recommended for smaller format film, so it sat
on the shelf. Finally tried the the first packet this summer - it does
well with harshly lit scenes like this one and produces a relatively
fine grained negative.

I might get around to working out the approximate locations, if only
for my own benefit!
Larry's idea is the way I would go, but bear in mind I may have left
the camera on Australian time -
can't remember right now, but I will check. So the only reliable
method is pinpointing a known
time, such as the stop at Raton, and work backwards and forwards from
there. We were pretty much on
schedule the whole time, I think.

With about a 12 hour time zone difference, it should be pretty simple to
figure out which timezone the camera was set to.

You don't have to figure it out. It tells you in the EXIF what time zone
it's set to.

One problem with that method is trains don't run at a constant speed
from station to station. There are speed zones just like out on the
highways. You may have a stretch of 55mph followed by a 20mph stretch
when it goes through a congested area with lots of grade crossings.

OTOH, you don't need exact locations ... just knowing what state you
were in when the photo was taken should be enough to give an idea of
your surroundings.
