OT Mac help

2024-05-15 Thread David J Brooks
Hi gang

So my new iMac 24" is working reasonably well, and am happy with it so far,
M3 chip.

However I have two older external HDs that are about 6 or 7 years old and a
new external HD that is my new Time machine. My back us are labeled 7 and
7a, for the most part 7 does not show up at all anymore but 7a and time
machine do, but, when i let the machine g to sleep for a while and wake it
up, 7a does not appear and sometime Time machine does not appear in the
side bar.

I have to restart the machine.

OIm using a usb hub to usbC device and have tried directly connecting hd7a
and 7 but with little luck, after waking up 7a does not appear.
I also bought a new cable for the hD'ds.

Any thoughts, is my time machine drive showing up as more stable cause its
new??

OT Photoshop 2024 help

2024-02-04 Thread David J Brooks
Hi all

Back in Dec my mid 2010 imac died and i recently replaced it with a 24"
imac M3.
I had to update my LR and PS to subscription base and did so last week
I'm not to good at PS, much better at LR, but one thing I use PS for is
flipping lens balls and trying to clone out a tripod mount if not holding
the ball in my finger.
I'm horrible at it and was hoping PS 2024 would be easier to do so it in
but i'm pulling my hair out to get content aware to do so,

I've looked at a number of utubes but nothing seems to work or cannot
locate the buttons or links needed todo so.

Asking the group if anyone has any helpful links they'd like tos hare,

Dave .

Hey all. My old 2010 iMac has had it and I ordered a new 24” iMac delivery
date unknown at this time. I know I’ll have to upgrade from my old LR 6 but
confused with the new naming structure.
I just got a email from Matt K regarding a LR 7 that allows for desktop
editing from folders on your own HD, but I’m confused about the names,
Lightroom, Lightroom classic, Lightroom cc etc.
Isthe new edition still subscription based but I have the option to use the
cloud or is it one time fee like the olden days
I confuse easily, as some may be aware, so any help is appreciated
I have looked at Matt K’s short video but still confused on Nan’s and plans

I did Cotty, :-) but when I power the unit on there is a click sound, then
the lights come on, the print head does not go through a cycle so I can't
use your suggestions. The internet shows there being a well of sorts that
can be accessed at the back, i have no such access door on the printer, so
i'm stymied.

epson 2400

2023-03-08 Thread David J Brooks
I went to print a document this afternoon and when I turned on my Epson
2400 printer, the green light came on for a short moment, I heard a
clicking sound then the paper jam and low ink red lights started to flash
alternatively.

Anyone run into this issue with a 2400, its about 15 years old

I did notice a blob of coloured ink on a piece of foam on the left hand
edge of the printer head rail, could that be it
??

Thanks Godfrey, thats pretty much what i was looking for. I may just go
with a good ipad, lot cheaper than macbooks, as a secondary device and
emergency computer should the desktop ever fail, until i can replace said
desktop,

I have lots of backup drives.:-)

I am quite comfortable with LR and have used it since version 1. Looks like
a free version is available for ipads.

Re: OT Laptops and photo editing

2023-03-07 Thread David J Brooks
Thanks Doug

If i decide to go the less expensive route, just to have a back up for
email and banking until I get a newer computer, should this desktop fail, i
may go iPad pro,

I've google a few of thee questions but i'm a bit confused with the answers

- what's the best way to go about getting mail for:

dave @ caughtinmotion dot com
and
brooksdj @ ca dot inter dot net.

??

would i set up MAIL to do it or just go through a browser like i'm doing.
- will the ipad support firefox
- i have Gmail on my iphone so ill assume its supported on an iPaD, with a
Gmail app

-what about making folders like on a Mac desktop, i have my photos stored
im=n specific year, like 2023, then subfolders like 3-3-23-Kings trail
walk, is this possible on an ipad,, google has me confused about this.

OT Laptops and photo editing

2023-03-06 Thread David J Brooks
Good day all

It looks like i;ll be getting some goven=rnmetn money soon and am thinking
of upgrading, but keeping, my 2010 iMac 21,5" desktop. It works well enough
but because i cant upgrade the OS to stay current and also can't upgrade
some programs i use and like, like PS and Lightroom, i'm considering
making a move to a macbook pro, either the 13
" or the 14" M1 or M2 chip

Just looking for comments good or bad from those that are using said
machine(s) for LR and PS. -Is the screen big enough, 13" or 14"
-is 8gig ram enough
-is M2 better over M1 chip
-screen colour ie do you need a spyder wset up
-battery life
-amount of ports and a sd card slot
-could my imac be used as an extended monitor?
-can i use my keyboard and magic mouse, i don't like track pads

If i think of anything else i;; add it.

We have a company not far that sells and services nothing but Macs so i'll
probably deal with them

I follow a Mac site on FB and often when someone has an issue they suggest
running the free malwarebytes program. Does anyone have any thoughts on
this program or use it.

anymore nor can I upgrade my FF browser, nor Safari, past current
version's. I'm just getting somewhat concerned.

Happy New Year one and all. I did my last good deed of 2022 today, one of
our camera group's grandsons was looking for a used camera to start
photography. I had my D200 and K10-D that I had not used in years so I
offered one of them to him. The D200's thumb wheels that change iso, wb etc
were not working 100% so he looked at the 10D, i explained the AF issues
and such and it had my old 16-45 on it, He opted for the 10D which i gave
him no money asked

He and gramps where happy
