OT: Converting dcp profiles (Adobe) to icc (Capture One)
Hello clever guys I startd using ColorChecker Passport. IT was made for Photoshop and Lightroom. I dislike Lightroom, so I use Capture One 8 Pro. In order to utilize the camera profiles mad through ColorChecker software, I wnat to convert the dcp profiles til icc profiles. There's a software dcp2icc for this. But I cant make this run on my Windows 7 laptop (some terminal thing is missing). Amnyone know of a GUI for dcp2icc, please? Or other useable procedure ... Sorry for troubeling you guys. I found out. In the K-3 menu it's a litte bit more complicated - but I can somehow choose the Tv Shift option - the use the green button for dertermining the "correct" exposuere: MENU: In C4 set the option 27 to 2. In Camera 4 choose the third option 2 to M Tv Shift. A little cumbersome - but it works Noew I can use the green button to set the shutter speed for a chosen Aperture. But now I can't get i t to work properly. I did set the "Pentax Function" to "Other than A" - shutter will release, disregarded the apeture is not set to A. But the Aperture is only stopping down in M - Manual Mode. Did I miss something? Does the K-3 not have an aperture simulator Which Pentax camera was the last one to be equiped with one? Is there anything I can do to make it work in Aperture Priority mode? Or - how do I measure light - determin the "right" exposure? Thanks Christina I just discovered, that it's only one of my two 64 GB Lexar cards, that's making trouble!? And only in the JPEG compartment (Number 2). I guess one card is faulty. I tried to send it back, but there was just too much paperwork involved... I guess I'l just mark it "DNG-only" Funny enough ther both work flawlessly in my SONY ILCE 6000. Green Button
Hi guys With my K20D I can use the green button when the camera is set to X for shortest flash shutter speed. This can ensure a prreen button I may choose a one step smaller aperture. On my K-3 this doesn't happen. The green button has no function in the X-setting! Is this supposed to be like this. Or is my K-3 not functioning right? Answers are greatfully appreciated. Thanks for your interest. The green button is supposed to set the exposuere according to a program line. This can be practical in manual mode or X-mode. I actually found out that theres a setting called Av SHIFT. I can be foud in the programming e-wheel menu. So I actually solved my problem. Now the green button works in X-setting. Unfortunatelyy I discovered that my K-3 i faulty. In Tv mode the shutterspeed changes to programline as soon I I press the release button. So now I must send it to the repair shop :-( This is the third time in 34 years, that I have experienced faults on a Pentax camera. Well, My K20D functions fine - a great camera, really. I solved the Green Button issue at my K-3 by choosing the Av-Shift option in the programming e-wheel function for the X-setting. Now the green button works in X-setting on my K-3. I guess I forgot to read the manual properly. I also fixed the Tv issue - the camera changed the shutterspeed as I pressed the release button. The clip on Pentax GPS is brilliant :-) But of course it's more convenient to have it built in. Also, it prevents the use of other hot shoe equipment, such as a remote trigger. I seriously consider getting the K-3II - or should I wait for the Full Frame body to appear ? Yes Darren, he did :-) The porblem is that I buy most stuff on-line - so I don't see if the rear element is flat. An of cource I didn't know the reason until just now :-) I was using a Pentax-FA 2.8 50mm Macro. The problem only occurs at F25-32 - and it seems more likely to occur, when using flashlight. So now I try to stay below F 25 - or use other lenses - like the 43mm Limited. Also the 645-FA 120mm macro doesn't have this issue at all. But the 645D is tiresom to use, when many shots are needed for fdocus stacking - 'cause it's quite slow, processing files. Thanks Matthew. I never thought of checking Live View :-) In the opt. finder it's not visible. Perhaps the M and A version don't have flat rear elements? I tried the 120mm for the 645D. It has NO blue spot issue (and no live view). Yes Larry, it only appears at F. 25-32 on the FA 2.8 50mm Macro (and the Tamron SP 2.5 90mm). I've been told that the A and M cesrsin don't have flat rear elements. Capture One 8 pro and Pentax 645d
Is it really true, that Capture One 8 pro can't handle Pentax 645D DNG-files? I can't seem to import them anymore, but I belive I could do so, when I ran the Capture One 7-version. I switched to Lightroom when I got the K-3, 'cause Capture One 6 pro wouldn't handele the DNG files. My problem is I don't like Lightroom at all. Capture One really has a better developing user interface. Is there a trick to get Capure One 8 to handel the DNG-files from the 645D? Tethered
Hi all.. I've been using the Pentax Flucard. Not too bad for some jobs, like packshots. Still I'd like better tethered shooting options. I'd love to be able to shoot directly into Capture One 8, which is my favorite RAW converter, since the on screen editing image is much better than that of Lightroom (are you listening Pentax and Phase One?). Furthermore updates from Capture One is allways years behind. It took quite a while for Phase One to support DNG-files from K-3 and 645D. I made a fast decission. I ordered the Wacom Intuos Pro Medium (the one with the size of my Sony Vaio Laptop) 15 x 9.9 inch. I think the two-finger zoom thing (touch screen) is very usefull for retousching, editing selections etc. And I hope brusching clean my silver jewelry images is going to be much easier :-) I think jewelry is very difficult. I learned a lot from Alex Koloskov (Youtube)*, but i still need to improve my diamond shots :-( * I'm using his suggestions (indirect light from both front and back), only I shoot horizontally, not vertically. The trick is to get a pure white background, without getting burned out highlights on the subject. Annother trick is to put in the right black cards and frames inside the box, in order to getting the right black and bright lines in the silver surfaces. Thank you Jostein. I made a small test. The time from pressing the shutter until an image shows is appr. 13 sec's. I was using a 280MB/s card for the RAW slot and 95MB/sec for the jpg slot. I found that switching the cards or turning JPG quaility to low (1 star) doesn't change the speed. I also found the camera display shows the RAW image by default ?!! Also, not using a card in the RAW slot doesn't shorten the time until an image becomes visible. So, I wonder how you manage to get just 4-5 sec's? OT: Capture One Por 8 won't read 645D DNG's
When I first installed Capture One 8 Pro (8.0.1.1.16) I was happy: Now both my favorite cameras were supportet (files only): Pentax K-3 and Pentax 645D. Since the I have updated the 8 version to (8.1.0.200). Now CO pro 8 won't read my 645D files. Is there a way to convert the 645D DNG files so that CO Por 8 can read them, please? OT: Sigma 1.8 18-35mm HSM Art
I am very pleased with this lens. Sharp all over the frame. I've been using the EX 4-5.6 10-20mm for some years. Actually always on the K-3. But the new 18-35mm is MUCH sharper - not only in the centre, but all over the place. Man it's nice. It is even possible to buy a USB-doc in order to adjust focusing. Thanks Jostien and Attila I allready have a very old Bamboo, but I'm not shure it works in Windows 7. So, I have ordered the Wacom Intuos Pro. Not too expensive at ebay. I'm sure It'll be fine for jewelry, where removing the background is a must do ... I try to be very accurate when it comes to lighting and exposure - background as well as foreground, in order to get a pure, white background. So drawing selections is not too hard and sometimes not at all necassary. Hi The K-3 is my most used camera. Use it every single day. I suppose the only better Pentax camera available for a long time would be the 645Z - it has Live View, ISO above 200.000 and a flipable screen. I didn't have this book, but I just ordered it :-) I have been shoting strobes since 1992 - attempting to learn by doing - a very time consuming process - full of dissapointments - and joy :-) I am using a PhotoCubic FlashBox A21 (good for allmost anything but jewelry) and a Kaiser Toptable set-up for macro photography. And I found the Alex Koloskov Youtube videos very useful. Also I found the Elincrome Skyport trigger (hot shoe accessory) - that allows me too adjust flashes from the camera, very usefull. Imatronic SX triangle - digital programmer for Kodak Carousel
Hello List A friend of min has a digital programming unit for using a tape recorder for managing 2 or 3 Kodak CAROUSEL PROJECTORS. It is called Imatronic SX Triangle. I can't seem to find information about this unit on the web. I need a user guide. I wnt to sell this unit as weel as two fine Kodak Carousel units. I't all very well kept and looks quite new. Unfortunately, though it might be possible to create a profile for the shift lens, I don't think it would be possible to create a profile that *works* for the shift lens, simply due to the nature of the beast. A profile that works with the lens centered wouldn't work with the lens shifted by 1mm. And a profile that was optimized for the lens shifted by 1mm wouldn't be quite right with the lens centered or with any other amount of shift. AF is significantly improved - faster, more precise, locks on the subject quickly. I was shooting in rather dim light and it did hunt a bit here and there, especially with the black cats. 6.Auto white balance is good but not perfect. 7. I notice noise at ISO 1600. I took the same shot (minus the cat) with the K-5 and notice noise in it too. They seem comparable, but one shot is not much of a basis for comparison. 8. Two 32 gig cards (I was lucky and got the free card deal from BW) show up with a nominal storage count of ~1200 DNG files. Given how conservative Pentax is with their storage estimates I expect actual file storage to be much higher. I won't get a chance to really run it through its paces till this weekend, but I'm excited. Looks like an excellent upgrade over the K-5, which is no slouch of a camera... Yes, it seems to me too, that the silver one is less expensive, if you want a grip anyway (I do). I own the grip for the K20D and the K-5 and I love this for vertical shots - and I never run out of power. However, in my country I get a fine discount at a special store (Dustin Home), provided by my employer - appr. 125 USD. But this store only sells the black version. Secondly: 10 or 15 years ago I'd tell a beginner, that it is easy to get excellent second hand lenses for Pentax K-mount. But that's not quite true anymore. ((I've been looking for a Sigma 100-300 EX 4.0 for months - impossible to find one for Pentax. And some focal lengths, made by Tamron, are not offered for Pentax at all :-( I can buy new Pentax lenses, but they seem to be quite expensive - and the best ones are hard to find second hand)). So, today I'm not so sure anymore about what to say to beginners. But I actually have friends and famuily members, that have chosen Pentax because of my photographs :-) I guess that the best advertising is showing fine photographs. Remember the Pentax (67) calendar ?? I geuss the new AA filter is a uniqe feature, not offered by other brands. And I think Pentax bodies gives me more features/better ergonomics and user interface, at lower cost. I guess I own perhaps 50 lenses or more for Pentax K-Mount. So, I could never afford to change brand myself, unless I have to (Pentax goes belly up - or I win the lottery can afford to get Phase One equipment). Which camera brand would you choose, if you started from scratch?
Hello list When I wanted somthing better than my first slr - the Yashica TL Electro-X, I went to a shop the buy an Olympus OM-1. But the guy in the shop convinced my to buy a Pentax MX (which I did), since I remembered, that I had earlier used a Pentax lens for my Yashica. The results from this lens (a 35mm for Spotmatic) came out so nice, that the guy in the shop really had no difficulties in convincing me to buy the MX (still got one). This happened in 1981. I have been using Pentax cameras ever since. But if this happended today, I don't know what would happen. The guy in the shop would probably tell me to get a Canon, Nikon or Sony, like almost everybody else... How would you convince a beginner to get a Pentax? What would you buy, if you were a beginner? The PDML is populated with skilled photographers, that know a lot i know almost anything about Pentax photographic equipment - and are friendly enough to share. Thanks :-) And BTW, as a replacement for the K-3, I guess most of us want a 25 Mp K-1 with a 24x36 mm sensor. Or perhaps a 645D, priced at appr. 2000 USD! Hi Mark I have been using bulk film for more than 30 years. I've never had any problems just filling the canisters I need, when I need them. It is however adviceable to keep the bukl roll rather cool, in order to keep the film fresh for a longer period of time. Don't pull it in and out of the cool storage to fast. It may be annoying not knowing how many frames are in the canister. I seem to choose either 20 or 36, so I', never in doubt... You can however fill in 40 frames easily, if you want to. But then Again There's perhaps a problem of storing the developed frames. Perhaps you might want to fill each paper sheet with negatives from the same roll. IIRC a sheet will contain 42 frames. I want a Sigma EX 100-300mm for Pentax. Very hard to find. Especially if it must be shiped to Denmark. Now I found one at ebay UK - but not for Denmark. Would any of you UK members help me get it? Hi all. Probably GN 28 and GN40. I got a AF280T. Please notice that were two versions. One can turn backwards and the other can't. Turning backwars is useful when photographing downwards (into at cradle or anything else on the floor or table etc.), while bouncing off the ceiling. Hi guys I bought an A3 printer: An Epson R2880. I'm having color managemnet troubles. I use Photosshop CS (outdated, but works rather fine for me, except for the colormanagemnet part). Could you please tell me if there´s an afforable application which I can utilize between Photoshop and the printer menu? I am imaginening that I will save an image i Photoshop as a let's say a tiff file in Adobe RGB color space. Then I want to open the file in an colormanagement app, from where I'll order my print. Thank you Paul. You are always very hepful :-) I do have an old but working calibration unit, that can be used for the monitor and other devices. It's called Eye One. I believe it works fine. I will study the file you linked me to. PS CS seem to have some settings I don't understand right now - maybe I will soon :-) The funny thing is, that my greates problems were when printing black and white. Hi Guys I want a bad printer. One that produces images wiht dots, that will be visible, when seen through a loupe (8x). I want to use this for experimenting with artistic macro enlargements. At work we had a printer like this 20 or 25 years ago. Dont remember the brand or if it was laser or ink technoloogy. Where would I find a printer like that. Any helpful hints will be greatly appreciated. PK Tether and Capture One
Hi all Attempting to work with tethered shooting (using a K20D, since I don't own a Pentax K-5IIs yet) I was wondering if anyone here has experience with PK tether and Capture One (7) Pro? My aim is to be able to develop RAW files on the fly (while shooting) in Capture One. Would this be possible with PK Tether and Capture One? When downloading the latest version of Capture One, I accidently installed a camera driver ( for the above mentioned brands). I noticed that Capture One started when prssing the shutter for the first time. But nothing else worked! So, I uninstalled the camera driver. Afterwards PK Tether worked fine again. I made PK Tether save the shots in a shared folder, opeded Capture One and here I chose the same, shared forlder. The images will then show up in Capture One. But how Can I make Capture One develop the images as soon as they arrive in the shared folder? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer me. PS: I did ask the creator of PK Tether, Tomasz Kos, if he was planning to make interating software for PK Tether and Capture One. A used lightmeter is quite cheap these days. Get a Gossen Lunasix F, for instance. Or one of those electronic meters from Minolta. You might get one for perhaps 50 USD. It's much better for the job. Anyway - I bought a K-01 as soon as the hit the markedplace last year. I was very disappointed - since I found out I couldn't live without an optical viewfinder. I soon got a collapsable hood for the LCD, which helps a little in bright sunlight. I still prefere using my K-5/K20D for most stuff, but for panoramas the K-01 is very nice, since it has the direct veiw turned on all the time. So I'm keeping it. The image quality is excellent - and I can still use all my fine Pentax lenses. So, if you can live without the optical viewfinder - buy a K-01. As for the lightmeter - I'd rather exchange the 67 for a 67II - they are not very expensive these days. The only problem is getting high quality scans - this is a MUST IMO, if you want to seriously compete with 16 MegaPixel digital images. As I can't afford an Imacon (Hasselblad) scanner, I get my negs scanned in Germany. But I'm still having trouble getting good enough scans. Pro scans made in Denmark cost appr. 125 USD for each frame!!! If I had to make a living from photography, I'd get a 645D - or a Phase One camera. Tethered shooting problems
Having had problems instatling and getting Pentax Camera Utility 4 + Pentax Remote Assistant to work properlymy pro. (As I don't have the original PCU4 CD yet, this might be one reason for my problems). I have upgraded the K20D firmware properly. But I cant find the original USB cord for the K20D, so I'm using the one from my K-5 - should this cause any problems? Aren't the cords (K-5, K20D, K-01) compatible? I have read, that I need to upgrade Windows 7 as well as download software to allow Windows 7 to work in XP-mode, in order to make PDCU+PRA work. Is this true? Communism has nothing to do with Instargram stealing (our) photographs. As I understand it (Karl Marx) Communism is (just in theory - never existed in the real world) the kind of society, that is supposed to come after socialism. Socialism is supposed to start out with a dictatorship - the working mans dictatorship (proletarian dictatorship). Unfortunately history has shown, that this evolution - from socialism to communism - will in fact never happen in the real world, due to the weakness of human nature; that is due to corruption, greed, hunger for power etc. Nations that tried socailsim never succeeded to reach a stage beyond the dictatorship!!! Very sad story. Just look at China, North Veitnam, Cuba, USSR etc. So, human nature makes it possible for the individual to survive, mainly by putting ME first (before US or humanity). This way the individual may survive. For humanity to survive shurely something much better than selfishness is needed. In order to survive the climate changes, polution etc. surely something better than putting ME before US is needed. If not communism or socialism, maybe something much better, based on a philosphy, that can put US before ME! Or at least make US/humanity win in the long run. Meanwhile I'll try to improve my photographic skills and equipment, while taking good care of my kids, whife and grandchildren and fellow man, not to mention our common Planet Earth. So, I came across Lobster - a Photoshop plug-in introducing new layers - Luminossity layer and Chromatisity layer. I wonder if anybody here uses Lobster and what you might think of it? This may be totally off the subject, bur I found that the Lumix FZ5 is a brilliat student camera bacause of it's options for totally manual control. 5 MP is enouhg for learning.
