And I really hate that they own PAYPAL. Someone told me also that there was some sort of law suit against Half.Com and ebay was just going to let it fold rather than defend. Anyone know what that is all about? I have about 100 books listed there and haven't sold anything in ages. annsan

Hi! Are you positive the seller isn't denying your payment? I.E. Not accepting it? Some people will not do international shipping (on ebay) and so have PayPal automatically set to deny payment from certain countries (well, most countries outside the US). You should double-check that with the enabler. Marnie, enabler gave me their e-mail address which is registered with PayPal and explicitly agreed to make a deal with me. The problem occured when I hit confirm button in order to complete PayPal transaction... Boris

But sounds unlikely. Marnie aka Doe However, I would ask to be sure. BTW, that is exactly what it does (the automatic rejection), it activates when the buyer hits confirm.
Re: OT: PayPal oddity - need advise
It's a glitch. Probably at the credit card company. If their computer was down or hiccuping, Paypal would not have been able to get approval and would have posted the automatic card is invalid message. It happened to me once as well. Don't worry about it. Paul On Apr 18, 2004, at 3:43 AM, Boris Liberman wrote: Hi! I am getting enabled with Vivitar 2x macro converter. I was going to pay to the kind enabler with my PayPal and twice the darn thing rejected my payment. It wrote a big red-lettered message on the top of the screen saying that my credit card has been disabled/cancelled by the credit company and I should contact credit company customer support. Which I did and naturally nothing was wrong. In fact, this morning I made a local buy with this card quite smoothly. I logged out and back in. Then I saw two lines of my activity table saying that my attempts to tranfer funds were denied. Very well, I tried once more and it went just like it always did - no worries at all. My question - is it a mere glitch, or am I in trouble? Anyone had similar experience? Thanks in advance. Boris

My question - is it a mere glitch, or am I in trouble? Anyone had similar experience? Boris Worse than that. I cannot use paypal anymore with any Visa card as, six weeks ago, Visa cancelled one of my two cards. Visa did it because that card's magnetic code had been cloned while I was purchasing something and used illegally the day after, for about $4500! They knew it was not me as I never buy expensive clothes, so they called me AFTER cancelling my card and explained what had happened. I sent my old card and got another one soon after, with a new number. (I had nothing to pay, of course. They see this as their problem.) BUT paypal won't register my new card, neither my other visa card because a card from Visa had already been cancelled. I talked with somebody at paypal, and that person said that their policy was meant to protect themselves, sometimes at the expense of users not involved in the illegal use of their card leading to their cancellation. A special request has been made inside paypal by that person but it was not accepted and now I do my things on eBay the old way. I was also told that a way out of this is to get a Master card, or an Am.Express card and register! So, I may decide to ask for a M.C... One problem with using only M.O. and cashier's check, apart from a $4 cost including stamp, is that some sellers won't accept anything else than paypal! Andre

Boris PayPal and Ebay are in business to maximize their profits and close off all loopholes that might cause losses. Never forget. They are not nice guys out to help us buy neat stuff at a bargain. So any refusals one encounters are simply PayPal protecting itself, without regard to user convenience. I envision a time when PayPal and Ebay become so onerous and expensive to use that they destroy their original core business - individuals buying and selling their own stuff. It's happening somewhat now - the number of bargains from individual sellers is way down compared to just 18 months ago. Most of Ebay photo is overrun with full-time businesses hawking retail merchandize, much of which can be purchased online or in local retail stores for about the same as the Ebay price. I am heartily enjoying my Ebay-free and PayPal-free lifestyle. I actually wish I had abandoned both of them a couple of years sooner. When I think of all the hours spent on Ebay, not to mention the dollars, that could have been spent with my wife or even the dang dog, I think I must have been addicted, or somehow in a PayBay-crazed fugue. -- Cactus Jack Warm and Dry in the Valley of the Sun www.photolin.com www.photolin.com/payanon/payanon.htm No More Pay, Pal © 2004 John Mustarde Don't Ebay, pal, No more Pay, pal, Hey Hey-ah, Good Bye.
