Apparently if we use Bookwright we get 1 free number. If we download the book and ask for a proof copy and have to do some edits then a resubmit do we loose our free number. To me it sounds like a waste of money. You could/should do a proof copy after you have it all together, and there will be time then to fix any image issues. If anything, if you are really worried about image print quality, do a total throw-away (on the same paper you plan to use later), maybe 10-12 pages, include a range of bright, dark and midtown images, see how they come out. But don’t waste money on a full proof until you put in the text and have it all ready to go. last meeting a suggestion of submitting just the photos in the book, no text to do a proof copy to make sure the pictures all look good, but after discussion we decided that might not be the best way to do it other than put the book together then order a test print. Re: Photo books question
Just a follow up to my previous post... One of the quirks of Booksmart is that it can't automatically flow text between text frames. It's easy enough to work around this by manually breaking text but you need to be careful if you later edit the text - you'll need to manually cut and paste text between frames to maintain the text flow. Booksmart seems limiting and clunky at first but you can manipulate it to suit your specific layout needs. Blurb have a newer application called Bookwright which they tend to promote instead of Booksmart. I found Bookwright very limiting and not as easy to use as Booksmart. One limitation of Bookwright was the inability to put even a simple border around an image - maybe that's changed in a more recent update. OK, I lied. Or at least I was a few years behind. I just sat through a 75 minute video by Scott Kelby (I subscribe to his stuff) on printing books from Lightroom CC. I then spent a few minutes in my Lightroom 6.9 playing with book layouts etc. The current LR, either version, seems much more flexible than what I remembered from back a few versions ago when they first introduced the book module. I now see no good reason not to use LR for your book layout. Note that they have a link to Blurb, but you have the option of saving your book as a PDF and I believe that other on-line print services can import a PDF and go from there. Re: Photo books question
I haven’t done a Blurb recently. You can prepare and upload a Blurb book from within Lightroom. The process seemed limiting and less flexible to me compared to using Blurb’s software directly. I never liked the Blurb utilization of text, always problems with paragraph breaks and page breaks and reformatting the text when photos on the page get moved or resized or even when the text is edited. They may have improved it in the several generations since I used it. Blurb on my Mac desktop I found to be very flexible. Quite easy to start with one (many) of their page templates, then resize and rearrange to your hearts content. Once you upload the files you have x days (7?) within which to order a first copy. So, do your preparations and wait for one of the emails that seems to come every two or three days announcing their current deal. Upload and purchase. stan > On Mar 26, 2017, at 10:34 AM, David J Brookswrote: > > Hey all. Re: Photo books question
Dave, I have a done a few Blurb books, but nothing as advanced as Mark. If you download the Blurb app for the Mac you can make your own page layout templates and customize it a lot. I never used Blurb's supplied templates except as a starting point. I created layouts with images and text on each page, some with full bleed, some that crossed the gutter, some with several images on a page. Easy-peasy. White backgrounds, black backgrounds. You can make a Blurb book from Lightroom but I believe you are restricted pretty severely to their templates. If you want full control you need to use Adobe inDesign or other more advanced layout package. I _highly_ disrecommend trying to use Word, even if it can be done. That will take years off your life, if the Microsoft induced stress doesn't just kill you outright. When your book is ready to publish, go ahead and upload it to Blurb. There's no cost. Subscribe to their mailing list and you'll get discount offers several times per month. They have a constant stream of discounts for publishers. Also check into Lulu, a place I rediscovered lately. https://www.lulu.com/ On Sun, Mar 26, 2017 at 10:34 AM, David J Brookswrote: > Hey all.
