[Phono-L] FOR SALE - NEAR MINT VICTOR III WITH OAK HORN

2017-08-22 Thread Shawn ORourke via Phono-L
For sale today is a machine I have owned for quite some time. It is the
nicest Victor III I have ever seen, which is why I have kept it. It’s time
to move it on.

The machine is absolutely stunning. Everything, with the exception of the
gaskets in the rebuilt reproducer, is original. The finish is stunning. The
pen striping is as near to perfect as you can find. Wonderful original
felt. Awesome #20 smooth oak Victor horn. It has an excellent dealer tag on
the front as well. It’s a strong player and sounds absolutely wonderful.
Not sure what else I can say, but if you have questions, I will be glad to
answer them, take more pictures.

A reprinted Victor III Instruction manual is included with the machine.

If you are looking for the best, this Victor III may be for you.

The price is $2,500. Shipping is additional.

I can deliver to Stanton's in the fall, and possibly the Wayne Show. No
PayPal, but checks are fine.

I have pictures that I can share with those who have serious interest.

Please contact me with interest or questions directly, additional pictures
at mshawnorou...@gmail.com

Thank you

Shawn

[Phono-L] FOR SALE STANDARD SPEAKER

2017-05-01 Thread Shawn ORourke via Phono-L
*For sale today is a hard to find, some may say rare, Edison Standard
Speaker. *

*This Standard Speaker is in nice, original condition. It has an original
french glass diaphragm and a new stylus. The cutter looks whitish, and I
have not tried it. The nickel on the Standard Speaker is stunning. It
presents exceedingly well overall and is one of the nicer ones that I have
ever seen. *

*Standard Speakers were offered starting in 1889 until 1902 (according to
Frow). What makes them special is that they had both the playback and
recording stylus on the same needle bar. An adjustment to the angle is all
that it takes to change from play to record. While it was much easier to
use than having a separate reproducer and recorder, the Automatic
reproducer functioned better for sound reproduction. Therefore the Standard
Speaker is not often found today. *

*This would be an awesome opportunity to dress up one of your early Edison
machines with a hard to find reproducer. They don't come around that often.
One did just sell on EBAY, but that was one of the first ones I've seen
sell in a very long time. If you are interested, don't wait. This early
stuff is not that easy to find. *

*The price is $775.00, Firm. Pictures available upon request. Postage and
insurance is additional to where you live. No PayPal, but checks are fine.
I can deliver to Stanton's Auction or Union with payment. *

*Please email me with interest at mshawnorou...@gmail.com
*

[Phono-L] For Sale - Columbia AP

2017-02-01 Thread Shawn ORourke via Phono-L
I have a Columbia AP for sale. This is an exceptionally hard machine to
find. It was given away as a premium by Columbia, and few seem to have been
made as very few are found today. I know seen less than 10 of these in 30
plus years of collecting. The one I offer is completely original and in
very nice condition. It plays well.

Contact me directly with interest at mshawnorou...@gmail.com. I have
pictures and a more detailed description.

Thank you

[Phono-L] For Sale - Early Victor I

2015-12-28 Thread Shawn ORourke via Phono-L
I have a very nice playing and looking Victor I (One) available. This is
the earlier model with the small case and beveled turntable. It plays
through a record really well. It is all original. The only real objection
to the machine is that someone messed with the elbow in the past, causing
denting on the sides. It has nice original finish, respectable
pen-striping, a nicely rebuilt and playing Exhibition reproducer and the
early small brass bell horn.

If you are looking for a nice Victor One (its not perfect, but very nice),
here is your opportunity get one! I can share several pictures of the
machine directly with those who have interest.

This will be packed carefully for shipping.

The price is $775.00 plus shipping to you. No PayPal, but checks are fine.

Please contact me with interest at mshawnorou...@gmail.com

Thank you

[Phono-L] For Sale - Salter Record Cabinet Catalogs - Reprinted

2015-12-28 Thread Shawn ORourke via Phono-L
Folks,

Once again, through the generosity of a fellow collector making his
original catalogs available, I am able to offer reprints of three very rare
Salter record cabinet catalogs. Each of these three have wonderful pictures
and descriptions of Salter manufactured record cabinets. I must say, by
reading these catalogs, I discovered new cabinets I never knew of
previously. I also discovered that Salter actually made some of the
cabinets that I was aware of, but did not know the manufacturer. Today,
there are three being offered:

   - Highest Quality Columbia Cabinets - Salter Manufacturing Company - 16
   pages - *$10.00*
   - Talking Machine Record Cabinets (disk and cylinder) - Salter
   Manufacturing Company - 24 pages - *$15.00 *
   - Record Cabinets - Salter Manufacturing Company (cylinder and disk) -
   40 pages - *$20.00*

These are wonderful reprints made directly from the original catalogs. They
are reprinted on paper that is consistent with the originals. They present
well, and contain wonderful information for the collector.

No PayPal on these, but checks are fine. Shipping additional.

Please contact mshawnorou...@gmail.com with interest.

[Phono-L] FOR SALE COMING TO UNION SHOW

2015-05-16 Thread Antique Phonograph List
Folks,

We're less than four weeks away from the Union show. Here are a few of the
items I will be bringing!

Table-Top Version of the *Brooks Repeating Phonograph*. This is the only
known example of a table-top Brooks Repeating phonograph. It is stunningly
beautiful, completely original, and works flawlessly. A very rare bird,
indeed.

*Rectorphone*. This is another rare bird. The Rectorphone, created in 1906
by Enoch Rector, was intended to be powered by a treadle sewing machine.
However, it ended up being a very simple phonograph with a spring motor.
Very seldom found today, this machine works wonderfully!

Original *Columbia Crank *for an AJ, AK, A, and possibly other Columbia
machines.

Super nice example of an early *Berliner Record* by the Metropolitan
Quartette.

Early *Seven Inch Record Carrying Case*. Nice, hard to find, and great for
your Berliner, Victor and Columbia records.

Super nice example of a *1000 Needle Victor Needle Tin*. A great example
black with gold lettering in very, very good condition.

Of course, I'll have all of my paper reprints there as well.

Pictures can be made available to those who have serious interest.

If you have questions, do not hesitate to contact me directly at
mshawnorou...@gmail.com

Thank you

[Phono-L] FOR SALE - Victor Rear Mount Concert Reproducer

2015-02-18 Thread Antique Phonograph List

I have a really nice example of an early reproducer for sale. It is a Victor
rear mount Concert reproducer. This one is in very good condition. It plays
loud and retains its original diaphragm and needle bar. There is some nickel
flaking and a couple of minor blemishes on the knurling. Nothing to really
detract from the reproducer. This one has a new rubber flange installed and is
ready to use on your machine.

These reproducers were an upgrade from the Exhibition reproducer on rear mount
machines. They are not commonly found, but do appear on Victor D, MS, M, and
early I - V machines.

Pictures available on request. Don't miss out on this one.

Price is $275.00 plus shipping. No PayPal on this, but checks are fine.

Please contact me with interest at: mshawnorou...@gmail.com

[Phono-L] For Sale - Rare Rectorphone Reproducer

2015-02-05 Thread Antique Phonograph List

For sale is a Rectorphone reproducer. The Rectorphone, created in 1906 by Enoch
Rector, was intended to be powered by a treadle sewing machine, However, it
ended up being a very simple phonograph with a spring motor. It was distributed
through mail catalogs, specifically the Baird-North Company. Not a big seller,
and surely infringing on patents, it is is very seldom found today. When found,
many times the Rectorphone is missing parts as they were easily removed or lost
from the simple construction of the phonograph.

If you need to complete a machine, or are looking to find a Rectorphone
someday, here is your chance to pick up an original reproducer. It is missing
the stylus, but otherwise it is complete.

Pictures available upon request.

The price is $150.00, plus shipping.

[Phono-L] For Sale - Diminutive Floor Crane - All Original!

2014-12-01 Thread Antique Phonograph List
You saw it in the Antique Phonograph Society's December issue, now it is
available today!

Over time, I will be selling a few of the items I own that are already
documented, or will document in the Antique Phonograph Society Magazine in
the articles - I saw it, and I Never Saw It In The Catalog.

Today, we have one of those items. It is the Diminutive Floor Crane. This
crane stands just under 36 inches, but will extend to over 50 inches.
Almost every aspect of it is of a diminutive size, about ¾ size of a
regular-sized floor crane. As I shared in the article, while very cool and
small, it will function successfully as a floor crane for your machine.
However, the largest horns would be somewhat precarious on this crane. Best
to stick with a smaller 24 to 36 inch horn!

The price is $250 plus whatever it costs to ship to you.

I have a couple pictures available to send directly to you if you are
interested.

No PayPal on this, but checks are fine.

Please contact me with inquiries at: mshawnorou...@gmail.com

Thank you

[Phono-L] For Sale - Cleanest Drip Pan Gem I've Ever Seen!

2014-12-01 Thread Antique Phonograph List
Today, we have one of those items that hardly comes available. It is a Drip
Pan Gem. To add to the allure, this is absolutely the nicest drip pan Gem I
have ever seen in 30 years of collecting. The paint is beautiful. The pen
striping is nearly 100%. The nickel is bright. It is a 100% original
machine that is definitely a collector grade of the highest order!

This is Edison's first model Gem. It is called a drip pan Gem by collectors
today as it has a metal drip pan under the motor. Edison did not produce a
case for this machine. It is as simple and elegant as you get. As well,
these are hard to find, almost impossible in this condition. It plays about
as well as most other drip pan Gems, which is only okay. The motor runs
smooth, everything is present and functional. The reproducer (unique to
this type of machine) has been rebuilt with the correct, French glass
diaphragm.

I can't express what a beautiful example this is of a very hard to find
machine. Check out the pictures and see if you agree! Even advanced
collectors keep these in their collections. They are one of the earliest
examples of Edison products being produced for a short time starting in
1899 (The home came out in 1898).

I have several pictures available that I can send directly to your email
address if you are interested.

The price is $1250.00 plus whatever it costs to ship to you fully insured.

If you've been looking for a nice Victor I, this is the machine for you. It is

Subject: [Phono-L] For Sale German made NOS Exposition reproducer and Early
Holey H, H with holes in the weight

If my posting bothers anyone please let me know as I actually enjoy fixed price
offers from fellow members as it keeps me up on prices and I have made
purchases.
I am actually taking a loss on all of these as the H I will install new gaskets
and you will get it at the price I paid for it and there is no rebuild charge.

Holey H:
It is an average looking H with a shiny top.

The H with holes in the weight I paid $115 for and after rebuilding it I will
sell it at $115, it is all original and in the correct band of serial numbers
(A290,000 to A340,000) for the H with holes.  All I need to know is if you want
the stylus bar made not to move or to swivel.  Edison made the swivel bar to
compensate for the fast wear of the wax amberols, it did not work and by 1910
he
fixed the bar in the H, K and J.  Fixing the bar makes it track properly, but
that is up to you.

German made Exposition reproducer:

There is a tiny bit of rust on the one flat spring that I left there
intentionally, but I would grade it 98% and it looks new until you look close.
Then you can tell it is old.
I have reproducers I forgot I had so I want to reduce by selling about half of
the ones I have.  As you can see I am selling it for the cost of the parts I
have in it, I am not making a profit especially when you include the labor I
put
in the rebuild.
Here is a New Old Stock German Made Exposition reproducer with a paper label
behind the mica.  The reproducer HAD three problems, the flange, the mica
(sound) and loose label. I corrected all three.  Most of the rebuild people
charge $40 just to replace gaskets, the instructions Victor has for the
Exhibition tell you to put the needle bar up to the mica, but you get better
sound and more volume with the bar around .003 away.

First the metal flange would not fit Victor machines, I solved this by adding a
Exhibition flange ($7.00) from Ron Sitko.  To do this I had to tap the holes to
5-40 which I did by first tapping them to 4-40.  Next I added two Exhibition
flange screws from Ron Sitko ($10.00 for the pair, they are very nicely made
and
blued).  Finally the mica was cheap looking and looked like the poor quality
mica you see today with the large punched hole and the delamination on the
edges
so I replaced it with a NOS Exhibition mica ($7.50).
Years ago I paid $40 for the reproducer in its box.  As you can see not
counting
the rebuild, clean, and new gaskets I have over $60.00 in this reproducer.

I cleaned the nickel in clock cleaner and then used Flitz so the nickel looks
almost new.  The back was painted black and has the original black paint that
looks new.  The paper label came loose, I cemented in back in place and
installed new gaskets and sound tested it.  It sounded better than the
Exhibition I rebuilt with the hard gaskets back in the 1980's.  I will include
5
loud tone Everest NOS Swiss needles and 5 gold plated medium trek needles with
it.
The needle bar has a round hole.
The cost is $60 plus shipping and to cap shipping at $5.00 I will make the cost
$65.00 which will include priority mail shipping with delivery confirmation in
the 7x7x6 priority mail box.  You will get the reproducer, its original box,
the
tissue paper it was wrapped in.  The reproducer will not be packed in its box
to
prevent damage.

If you have an offer that is close let me know, I will go by the first full or
close offer I have.  I have two of these, one is rebuilt the other will need to
be rebuilt.  I rebuilt if for someone that did not want it and will sell the
second one at the same price.
After selling all the reproducers I want to sell I will not break even as I
purchased the diamond reproducers at full price and they all had bad diamonds.
If I was not honest I could recover my full cost, but my reputation is worth
more than money and I did not buy them to make money, I purchased them to
keep.
Now that my research is 90% complete I want to get rid of at least 50% of the
reproducers that I have.

Subject: [Phono-L] For Sale German made NOS Exposition reproducer and Early
Holey H, H with holes in the weight

If my posting bothers anyone please let me know as I actually enjoy fixed
 price
offers from fellow members as it keeps me up on prices and I have made
 purchases.
I am actually taking a loss on all of these as the H I will install new
 gaskets
and you will get it at the price I paid for it and there is no rebuild
 charge.

 Holey H:
It is an average looking H with a shiny top.

The H with holes in the weight I paid $115 for and after rebuilding it I will
sell it at $115, it is all original and in the correct band of serial numbers
(A290,000 to A340,000) for the H with holes. All I need to know is if you
 want
the stylus bar made not to move or to swivel. Edison made the swivel bar to
compensate for the fast wear of the wax amberols, it did not work and by 1910
 he
fixed the bar in the H, K and J. Fixing the bar makes it track properly, but
 that is up to you.

 German made Exposition reproducer:

There is a tiny bit of rust on the one flat spring that I left there
intentionally, but I would grade it 98% and it looks new until you look
 close.
Then you can tell it is old.
I have reproducers I forgot I had so I want to reduce by selling about half
 of
the ones I have.

First the metal flange would not fit Victor machines, I solved this by adding
 a
Exhibition flange ($7.00) from Ron Sitko. To do this I had to tap the holes
 to
5-40 which I did by first tapping them to 4-40.

I will
 include 5
loud tone Everest NOS Swiss needles and 5 gold plated medium trek needles
 with
 it.
The needle bar has a round hole.
The cost is $60 plus shipping and to cap shipping at $5.00 I will make the
 cost
$65.00 which will include priority mail shipping with delivery confirmation
 in
the 7x7x6 priority mail box. You will get the reproducer, its original box,
 the
tissue paper it was wrapped in. The reproducer will not be packed in its box
 to
 prevent damage.

If you have an offer that is close let me know, I will go by the first full
 or
close offer I have. I have two of these, one is rebuilt the other will need
 to
be rebuilt. I rebuilt if for someone that did not want it and will sell the
second one at the same price.
After selling all the reproducers I want to sell I will not break even as I
purchased the diamond reproducers at full price and they all had bad
 diamonds.
If I was not honest I could recover my full cost, but my reputation is worth
more than money and I did not buy them to make money, I purchased them to
 keep.
Now that my research is 90% complete I want to get rid of at least 50% of the
 reproducers that I have.

[Phono-L] Holiday Sale

2011-12-03 Thread Shawn O'Rourke
I have several items available for sale today! All are available through
this list and others. Packing is free, shipping is whatever it costs to get
it safely to you. Pictures available upon request. If you have interest,
just email me at mshawnorou...@gmail.com

Edison Triumph A - I have only dusted off the dirt. It is an Edison Triumph
in the earliest green oak case. This one has the square corners, indicating
an early case. Even more special, there is a neat celluloid dealer tag! The
tag reads Jacot Music Box Co 39 Union Square New York. This is a very
respectable machine. The motor is strong. All gears mesh well, and it runs
very quiet with good solid springs. The upper works are really clean with
most of the pen-striping present. There is a little belt slippage that
should be able to be corrected with a tighter belt, or tighten the pulley.
I'm leaving all the fine adjustments up to the new owner! There is original
finish throughout. The case is very nice with an excellent decal. And again,
a super cool dealer tag! There are no extra holes or any veneer damage on
the lid. It could look even better with a little cleaning. There is no horn.
The original square hole crank and a very nice early model C reproducer come
with this machine.

The first $875.00 takes it.

Edison Standard Model A. Here we have a machine straight from the owners
house. It is an Edison Standard in an early green oak case. Overall, this
one is a nice machine as is, and with a little attention, would be a really
great piece. The motor is strong. All gears mesh well, and it runs very
quiet with a good solid spring. You can see a previous repair, or braze, on
the speed control arm. This is solid, works fine. The upper works are really
clean with most of the pen-striping present. There is original finish
throughout. The case is very nice with some obvious denting on the front,
most probably due to crane. There are no extra holes or any veneer damage on
the lid. It would really spiff up with a little cleaning. There is no horn,
and no crank. It came with most of a model H reproducer. It also came with
an original chip brush (or most of it)

The great news, I'ts cheap. The first $215.00 takes it.

Early Columbia Crank - Here we have another really nice item! it is an
unusual, early Columbia crank. The knob secured on by a screwed in post
rather than a rivet is the clue that this is a super early crank. It has an
early knob as well. Overall, nice plating, all original little piece. A
great upgrade for an early Columbia disk or cylinder machine. It should work
well on several early models!

The first $65.00 takes it.

Edison Dictaphone Reproducer - An unusual piece, in super condition. This
is clearly for a Dictaphone. However, I put it in a regular Edison
carriage, and it played a record very well!. This one looks to be complete
and all original

The first $25.00 takes it.

[Phono-L] For Sale: Rare Klan Record

2011-02-24 Thread Vinyl Visions

I ran across an interesting record recently, which shows that the Klan was
alive and well in Michigan in the 1920's. I grew up in Michigan and was never
aware of it's existence there. I have seen and owned other Klan records, but
never one that was made in Lansing, Michigan - most that I have seen are from
Indiana or southern states. This one is by the Imperial Quintette, Lansing,
Michigan and is titled The fiery cross in the vale - this is a re-write of a
famous Christian hymn.

FYI - Just to be clear: I am not in any way affiliated with the Klan or promote
them, nor do I believe in what the Klan does or has done in the past and I am
not a racist. I collect odd records of historic significance and that is what
this record represents - an interesting historical item, ONLY. This is probably
not for everybody, but as a historical record I believe it to be very rare.

Re: [Phono-L] For Sale: Rare Klan Record

2011-02-24 Thread cdh...@earthlink.net
My introduction to the Klan discs was to find several of them on a trash
pile on a curb, several decades ago. The label on most of them was 100%,
which meant nothing to me until I played some of them. They were pressed by
Gennett, so that's why the location is always taken as Indiana. There is
also a KKK label, which turned up later some place.

For the most part, the songs are parodies of songs that were popular at the
time the disc must have been pressed. Without looking now, I recall that
one was titled: Barney Google, Clansman, a parody on the Barney Google
song. Another that comes to kind is: The Old Flaming Cross, a parody on
The Old Rugged Cross. They weren't very original.

[Phono-L] Foe Sale Edison Model B Gem with banner decal

2010-11-24 Thread harvey kravitz
Hi Gang,
I have for sale an Edison Model B Gem with a banner decal on the lid. The
machine is solid with good veneer, finish, and striping on the machine. The
banner decal on the lid is good, too. Overall, the machine is a clean and
excellent example. However, there are some issues: The spring is either broken
or unhooked.. The little nut that holds the Mandrel in place is missing. One of
the screws and washers on the bottom of the wood base is missing. There you
have
it, a good, clean Banner Model B Gem with minor defects. There is no horn or
reproducer(I can add one on for $100.00). Price is $350.00 without horn or
reproducer. The price includes priority, insured shipping. If a reproducer is
wanted, add on $100.00. Don't forget, shipping is included.

Are you sure it's not oak?? The grain sure looks like oak. I have seen oak
horns that age to a red color. Just wondering.

Dear Fellow Phono-Collectors,

I have a Mahogany Victor horn for sale. If you are not interested / delete
now with my

apologies for sending this email to your inbox.

For those of you that are interested / here are the details

We all know these original wood horns don't come up very often without
having to buy the entire phonograph.
This one is priced at $950 + shipping. These normally range from $1200 to
upwards of $1500 for a pristine example.
This one is not without flaws and is priced accordingly for a quick sale to
a fortunate collector.

This horn is very presentable and would look great on any Victor 4 or 6
machine. Please see pictures (links below).
The horn has one major flaw (among other minor blemishes) that has been
repaired and it looks fine now. The horn has
the original finish and I suspect may have a top-coat of shellac on it. The
original Victor Dog decal is all there / the alligator finish makes it
look worse in the photos than it is. The horn itself is SOLID. I do not have
a horn elbow for it.

Shipping: I prefer this horn be packed and shipped by UPS (not me), unless
someone wants to pick it up in person.
I live in northwestern Pennsylvania about 25 minutes south of Erie, PA. This
can only be shipped within the 50
States within the continental U.S. (not Alaska or Hawaii). I would not be
surprised if the packing and shipping
and insurance charges by UPS approach upwards of $100, depending upon where
you live within the United States.
However, if packed by UPS, it will be done right and insured. If UPS
packing/shipping/insurance is more than $100,
I will pay up to $50 additional money to get it safely to you. So, the most
this horn would cost anyone would be $1050

to your door.

Here are six photos of the horn:

[Phono-L] FOR SALE: 1927 Victor catalog and Victrola XI instructions

2009-12-02 Thread Merle Sprinzen
Hi Everyone --

Still fall cleaning... Two items this time:

-- A 24-page 1927 Victor Orthophonic Victrola Electrola and Radiola
Combinations catalog. This one is missing the covers and the pages have
been exposed to water at some point in their past. All of the writing is
still perfectly legible and the photographs are still clear -- there's
just a bit of pink tinting in the middle of each page. I'm thinking that
$20 would be a fair price.
-- A reprint of the instructions for a Victrola XI, Type G. This one is
a very well done reproduction -- I thought it was the real thing until I
saw it was printed in 1980 by the AMR Co. of Seattle, WA. The sections
are Unpacking and Setting Up the Machine, How to Operate, Victor
Tungs-Tone Stylus, Victor Fibre Needles, Speed Regulator, Care of Motor,
Sound Box, Care of Records and Causes for Poor Results. $8.50

If you're interested in either of these, please contact me off list.

Best wishes for the holiday!

[Phono-L] FOR SALE: Phonographs for sale and a Nirona portable box

2009-11-15 Thread Merle Sprinzen
Hi Everyone --

It's still fall cleaning time around here, and I thought I'd re-post the
information about the phonographs I still have -- and there are some
additions. I'm happy to send photos. Here's what I have, and if you'd
like any of these or more information, please contact me off list:

PHONOGRAPHS

1. Vanophone -- Good working order and all parts original (at least as
far as I can tell). This is the version without the speed control slider
on the front. $345.
2. Polly Portable phonograph -- This is the one with the paper
collapsible horn, which is present and in good condition. The carrying
handle on the case has one tab missing, so you can't pick it up by the
handle (not that you'd want to anyway). Otherwise everything else is
there and original. $125.
3. Another Polly Portable -- This one is missing the paper horn and the
handle has been replaced. A good machine for parts. $85.

NIRONA BOX

1. The Nirona portable phonographs originally came in a hard cardboard
box that had illustrations on the sides. As you might imagine, these
boxes are fairly rare because they were often disposed of after the
purchase. The top of the box I have is torn but it is all original and
gives you a sense of what the box is like (pictures will tell the story
better than I can). $40

Subject: [Phono-L] Suckerpunched by eBay Vic III for sale
Message-ID: 531326.84228...@web83001.mail.mud.yahoo.com

?Okay, it finally happend. Afte defending eBay (mentally if not physically on
this board) for a long time, I got my comeupance today.?Two days ago?I put
several items on eBa for sale, including a nice Vic III that I have. I am
DESPERATELY trying to raise $2800 in a short time to buy a harp to replace?mine
(which developed structural problems).? I need to raise this money SOON!? So I
listed some phonoe items that were near and dear to my heart, including the
III. You may remember what I went through trying to get a back bracket for it.
So this morning, I find that eBay has REMOVED my items because I did the unholy
deed of saying I accept Paypal and personal checks (held for clearance).
Apparently you cannot accept mone order or personal checks on ebay any more. I
didn't know this because I don't?read every piece of claptrap that ebay sends
me. I use the Turbolister to create my listings, and it caugh that I offered to
accept money orders, and it gave me an error code on that. So I changed it. BUT
it did NOT give me an error code on the term personal checks.? So I guess some
grunt at ebay whose job it is to check such things found it and pulled m
auctions. I had $460 in bids on the III when it was pulled. They sent some sort
of email to my bidders telling them the items were being pulled. I was FURIOUS.
I wrote them an angry letter, and they basicall said too bad. They were nice
about it, bt at the end of the letter it said I should not respond because they
would not receive it. Nice
and caring.? Anyhoe I relisted most of the stuff, and the Vic III is item
number 110374580209.? I am so desperate to raise the cash that my buy it now on
this item is only $1995, which is less money than I have into it. So if you
want a deal, there it is.? As for ebay, they disguise their corporate greed
behid the veil of 'protecting their sellers from fraud'. They own Paypal, so of
course they want you to use it exclusively. Arrgh. Thanks for leting me vent.
And thanks for reading this far.?

Yoday, Jerry!

So, whatever happened to the L-door at the Seattle meeting? I'd suggested,
if I couldn't make it, you buy it and drop it off at my house on your way
home, and I'd repair the leg toward the price of that record cabinet? You
seemed to like that idea... Was it too damaged or did somebody else buy it?

Jus' wunnerin'...

How did that meeting go? Rod n' I, and possibly new members Bill Marks and
Bruce Spainhower, intend to see y'all in May.

All the Best!

Take a look at this beauty, there is discussion here centering on why there is
no Columbia ID on this gorgeous Art model type Graphonola. It seems to have the
correct Columbia motor and tone arm and reproducer, but as stated, there is no
sign of it being mentioned in Baumbach's Columbia book. Did Columbia make
custom made type desks where they did not include the traditional ID or
trademark ? Regardless, this is certainly an exceptional furniture related
phonograph piece.

Hi

I was the author of the original post on the Antique Talking Machine message
board. At the urging of one of the members I e-mailed Robert Baumbach to see
what he thought as he authored the book on Columbia machines. I got a very
nice e-mail back from him with a few pictures of another early regent
machine with all the markings. Check out the updated messages to see Bob's
information and pictures.

What do you all make of this? The seller describes it as a
peephole device, but the original serial number plate reads
Projecting Kinetiscope. The cabinet at first glance appears to
be home made, but the age of it seems honest; not faked to look
old. The external hardware certainly appears to be age-
appropriate, and yet the cabinet wood looks like pine or fir,
which would be odd for the time.

The mechanism appears intact, but I don't see anything that's
obviously involved with projection. Is this part of a larger
affair, or something made from a more complete device to adapt it
 to a different use?

your horn go to a fellow phonobuff on the Phono-L thread. I am sure that I
join many others on this group in saying that I am glad to see another venue to
buy our beloved phonograph items. With all of the outrageous fees, and the
crooks that are showing themselves more and more each day on ebay, I am one
that
has really weaned myself from ebay. I am beginning to save a little extra
money here and there and am looking forward to several phonograph shows next
year. I not only look forward to seeing items that I would like to buy, but am
looking forward to the fellowship with fellow enthusiasts. Ebay is not what it
was twelve years ago when I joined. Money, like it has with sports and
entertainment, has ruined what was a good thing. A sign of the times I suppose

Cylinder record cabinet - This is the cabinet that I posted a question about.
It's very nice and holds 120 cylinders. I have several photos to email and the
price is $600.

Brown wax cylinders - I have five extra brown wax cylinders. They range in
quality from good to excellent and each is in a cylinder box. Photos are
available and the price for all is $50.

Nipper - This Nipper is an old flocked 6 bank. It has the plug in the bottom
and Radio Corporation of America is embossed in the plug. Photos are available
and the price for Nipper is $95.

Soundwagon - This toy is so cool. It's a VW bus that is actually a phonograph
that drives around on a LP record. It is complete with the original box and
instructions. Photos are available and the price is $50.

Nippers - I'm selling a pair of plush Nippers. One is large (about 24) and
the other is small (about 12) and I'm asking $35 for both. Photos are

Cylinder Phonograph, excellent condition, oak, matching wooden cover included
and a Pathe Floor Model Phonograph, dark stain, castors, various records stored
in lower cabinet.

The sale is in Wainwright Alberta in case any one would like to come up to our
frozen climate that we have been having lately. I can copy the pics they have
of these if you want me to send them to you privately.

Looks like there is a big push back on the upcoming Ebay changes..

It appears there is a orchestrated event asking sellers not to list and
buyers not to bid during the week of Feb 20-27. It may get interesting..

Greetings Rob:

That is the third time that put together machine has been auctioned on eBay.
Something is wrong somewhere. The cabinet is correct for a late Edison coin
op but the bedplate has holes for a spring motor which were not drilled for
the electric coin machines. The Triumph Model B topworks with the latchgate is
correct for 1906 cabinet but since you are not shown the topworks in detail
you cannot see if the mandrel shaft drive pulley was the larger diameter or the
normal size as would be found on the spring driven Triumph. The AC/DC motor
is from much later and would never have been found on this date machine. The
trip arm is home made at best and not original. That is the tip of the iceberg.

Lastly this machine was on eBay earlier this year. If my memory serves it
once sold as a Buy It Now of $7,500.

A one day auction on eBay for a rarity is usually to pull in the neophytes
who then don't have the time to research authenticity and value.

Regards to all on the list,

Al

Ok, resident Edison nuts, I saw something a bit puzzling last night. We
had a speaker at our historical society talk about the 4 amusement parks in
East Providence RI. He used post card views mostly and on one of them of
Crescent Park, from the early 1900s, there was a building marked Edisonia.
I thought it might be for movies but cylinder phono exhibition is another
possibility. Anyone ever read/seen a description of an exhibit marked
Edisonia and what was in it?

Thanks,

Ron L

2006-12-24 Thread Jerry DeeDee Blais
Phonofriends, I would like to thank everyone that has purchased something
to help me buy my Alva. I'm getting near the end of my fund raising and
thought I would offer a few more things. I have the following:

Vic I with brass bell horn. It's an early Vic I in exceptional collector
quality condition. The case has original finish, the nickeling is
excellent, the back bracket paint and striping is nice, the turntable has
very nice original felt and the horn is excellent. The horn is 19 long
and has a 12.25 bell with an excellent black background decal. I think
the horn is quite unusual and must have been an optional horn for the Vic I
and it does taper down to accept the small size elbow. The horn has
original black paint in excellent condition and the brass bell is
exceptional (not perfect but about as nice as any I have seen). The
Exhibition reproducer is early and has the round needle hole. An ordinary
Vic I would probably sell in the $1200 to $1300 range. The price for mine
is $1350 and I don't think you will every have the desire to upgrade from
this machine.

Vic E rear mount. The above description applies to this machine and it is
offered with the same horn. The Exhibition reproducer has the quick
release lever. Price is $1400.

Vic IV with #19 black horn. This machine has its original finsh and the
nickeling is very nice. The #19 black horn is exceptional and has the
original black paint, decal and striping. The price is $1800.

Thanks for considering the above machines. The prices may not be a bargin
but they are a good value. I need to raise just a little more money and
when I reach that point I will stop selling so the above machines may or
may not be for sale for very long. I'll be home today after church so
email or give me a call. Thanks, Jerry

I thought it was ok to post for sale items... most post them as pre ebay
sale.

Then interested parties can contact you off-list.

I know I am always interested in what people have for sale.

I thought Bid Pay went belly up?

There is no commercial arm of Phono L equivalent to the 78-C adjunct to
 the
78 list but we are all interested in hearing about machines and related
items that are for sale, I think. Loran used to organize e-flea markets
once in a while but has not had one in a long time.

I'm a new member of PhonoL and posted a hello and was rapidly welcomed
by Loran and Ken and Brenda Brekke. I collect and do a lot of
restoration work. I was looking for a place to meet other knowledgeable
people and share information. I have to admit that I was rather turned
off by the rants on Ebay, the other list, etc. I was also turned off
by the apparent willingness of some to bid up their own auctions. This
list seems to be a good old boy list because so many on it don't use
their own names, yet they all know who each other are. It makes it very
difficult for someone new to feel like they belong. Maybe I'm looking
for a perfect world that doesn't exist. I don't see too many ways to
sell my machines outside Ebay other than Todd Augsburg's site or Len
Bilton's. Maybe the members of this list could come up with some
vehicle for selling and posting wants. It would sure be helpful if you
knew the interests of other individuals. Maybe the list could find some
way to let individuals list their areas of interest. These may all be
old territory that has been discussed on the list before. If so, I
apologize. I would sure like to find a way to contribute in a positive
manner to the list. John Pisano made a couple good points on Ebay
auctions, re. use credit card and Bidpay, but they seemed to go
unnoticed. The discussion all went to bad shippers and bad packing.
That is a given reality. How about someone posting constructive good
packing tips? There has been some limited mention of some. Anyway, I
hope PhonoL can be a real asset to both new and old users.
 Ken

If I may direct you to another forum at which I spend a fair amount
of time - it is for collectors of stuff from the Golden Era, 1920 -
1950. The board is excellent and a lot of the several thousand
members exchange photos, advice, etc. every day. You can have a look
at the format anyway. I think it is a lot of work to put together.
I've often thought it would be excellent for phonographs and once
looked into it myself. The software is from VBulletin:

[Phono-L] For Sale: The Phonograph Book

2006-12-24 Thread Loran T. Hughes
Friends,

I've found yet another original copy of The Phonograph Book by
Lloyd MacFarlane (copyright 1917, 159 pages). It's in overall good
condition with tight binding. This book is as rare as hen's teeth and
the last copy I offered went quick... first $150 takes it.

Email me off list at lo...@oldcrank.com if interested.
