You are using a synology DS211 as server ? Is it up to task to transcode
audio ? Try LMS on one of your computers ?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] LMS Artwork Configuration...would a plugin be *possible*?

2018-11-24 Thread Mnyb

The two first pionts is already there . Given that you use one album one
folder . Ie artist/album/track

LMS uses the embedded art in the first track of an album then it loks in
the album folder for folder.jpg or front.jpg or cover.jpg then i think
it uses whatever it can find .

But it does not go over or above this .

Then there is a plugin that downloads cover art for you or is it
standard nowadays :) sometimes i don’t remener whats a plugin or a
standard feature.

Another issue altogether. OGG Flac is another format different from
spotify.
It is flac in an ogg container . Squeezelite probably cant do this
natively hence LMS
Transcoding.

No afaik it’s about Spotify encryption they use an encrypted ogg format
and the library Michael uses decrypt and spits out pcm ?
Our players can not do this in thier firmware so the streams has to
decrypt somewhere.

The flac part is because it’s smart for WiFi players the bandwith gets
smaller and the flac formats has some other smart things going for it
like error correction and tag information, but I don’t know what’s used
here apart from making the bandwith smaller for those of us with WiFi .
This is btw the typical default for LMS in general not only for spotty .

OK but you can do that with the normal sync functions already in LMS no
need for a plugin.
You just sync them all.

Or use the new virtual player plugin and create a virtual player that
include the players you want for a party , and just start that one when
you sudenly want to fill the house with music :)

Yes web UI and iPeng show different playlist , what iPeng shows is some
mixup off what i’m Browsing part of the real playlist and some random
stuff ?

And the playlist is very short . Not at all as the current playlist for
my player ?

LMS web UI has the correct list all the time .

If I add more stuff the list get correct again or if kill iPeng
completely and restart .

Suppose this happens when iPeng has been in the background in the
background.

This is not new but today it was more prevalent than usual , I’ve seen
similar things in the past the wrong covers have temporarily been in the
playlist but it fixed itself in seconds

Regardless of LMS version , any old plugin does not work anymore
including protocol handler , due to changes at Spotify

So one need to remove all old Spotify apps and plugins and install the
new spotty plugin .

So have a look in the spotty plugin tread , read the first post install

OK substitute possible for feasible :)

Like if half the infrastructure is already there , you have to just look
up the artist in simple way a few line of code .

Or is weeks on end long projekt that affects a lot of code that then
sprawls to other already well tested functions thats suddenly are

Hello was trying this out can confirm that i works , but overall it
works it's plays the songs reliably with good quality :) nicely done .

Artwork change can be a bit wierd if you switch between HD images and
the usual album covers . You have to restart the playback to reset .
Whats HD images for ? I was seing ducks and stuff ?

Feature request , In both web-UI and iPeng i get artist and album info
great ! but they are not links to the same artist or album in my own
collection ?
Is that possible ?

yes attach the zip archive .

Or just go to the location , you see before the link you press on to see
the log in the web UI .
Thats the actual file path to the log file who is a simple *.txt text
file .

But the zip link makes it even better it just grabs all logs prezipped
for you and it works from whatever browser even if it's not on the
server itself

A yes the spotty plugin in conjunction with LMS transcoding spits out
16/44.1 flac at 700-800 Kbps .
Or probably 1500kbs PCM if you for some reason have disabled FLAC ( bad
idea )

So if the player is on wifi and not the most perfect wifi bitrate
limiting helps to manage the traffic :)

LMS there point it to the share on the turbo station , LMS runs 10x

Now we may explain why some including me suspect that spotifys encoding

It migth be this watermark in many cases and not the encodings fault .

Spotifys 320kbps OGG should really be transparent to human listeners .

This watermark persists in 64kBps mp3 ugh :/ again acording to your

Yes then you can have other unforeseen issues . Even if you succeed to
install prerequisites like IO socket SSL and it's dependencies ( there
are a bunch ) and the needed libraries both on the OS itself and the
perlmodules . You migth find the the versions are simply to old :)

That was the case with my old ClearOS server . I did never try it with
spotty but Phillips AirTunes plugins etc also requires iOS socket ssl
etc , and it never worked .

You can aut LMS with the spotify app on your phone .

But playback and controll is done (for the moment ) via your normal

Or if a spotify stream presents replaygain tags so that LMS smartgain

Some user do like volume leveling , the smartgain function lets you
preserve diferences on album level but stilll level things in for
example a large party playlist .
If Spotify sends rg tags then it could be users choice win/win

Basically "yes" but spotiffy does not use mp3 it's 320kbps OGG with some
encryption added that librespot or libspotify decodes and put out a raw
PCM stream . that we can use as we want usually converting it to flac
for practical reasons .
Other spotify app like the one on the phone has quality settings where
320kbps is their best (low, normal, high) . And i think spotty and triodes
old plugin settled on the best stream .

No benefits but usually 320k OGG is good enough inaudible diffrences for
humans . That said i dont think spotify themself do thier best a
encoding and possibly record companies have uploaded stuff with less
resolution , but on a good day when things are done rigth it should not
be an issue.
But its hard to compare it may not be the same master on spotify as your
own disc if try that.

Its is also about how diffrent apps uses the volume leveling feature of
spotify ?
Triodes defunct plugin had a feature to defeat that ? how librespot is
using it . I dont know .

Also LMS has a feature "Default Adjustment for Remote Streams" for each
player the default is -5dB its usefull for most webradio that can be a
bit loud . But for best spottify performance set this to 0 .

That kbps must be set into context for a LOSSLES codec it mostly tells
you how efficient the LOSSLES compresion is 705kbps as FLAC can cary the
same information as 1411kbps PCM it works just lika zip file .
There are numerous tricks to compress data without losing anything . You
can turn it the other way PCM is quite wasteful , a file with 5 minutes
of absolute silence will have the same size and bitrate as one with
music.

LOSSY compressors do away with information due to psychoacoustic
evaluation model and throw aways stuff your not supposed to hear . The
goal is not only to get a smaller file .
But lowering the bitrate to makes streaming less data intesive .
Here kbps make some sense as you can sort of equate quality with bitrate
but not always .
Trying to grade stuff by a single number usually oversimplifies, the
correlation is not linear and codecs are different and for example an
old mp3 encoder from the 90's would not do very well compared to a
modern one at the same bitrate.

On Spotify's own mobile app's setting for bitrate i keep it on normal
(not the high quality used by spotty ) because it works better on the
move and in the car . In the noisy car and cheap headphones outdoors it
dont matter much.

DavidBulluss wrote:

Good but as discussed . You can use flac it's still lossles and the same
as PCM and mp3 would only happen when necessary , bitrate limiting
invoked or an old slimp3 ( or other player ) that needs mp3.

So just leaving the filetypes settings with both flac and mp3 enabled
works just fine LMS knows that for example your Touch should have a flac
stream ( or pcm if you disabled flac ).
LMS automatically picks, the best possible stream to,use given the used
players .

Flac is prefered over pcm because it conserves bandwidth , good with
wifi conected players.
If you are cpu bound you can save some cpu cycles at the expense of
bandwith with flac disabled .
But the result is the same at the player lossles is lossles regardless
of codec .

The confusion between lossles compression ( flac alac ape etc ) and
lossy compression ( ogg mp3 AAC etc ).
We can have another tread about that .
Short version lossles compresion restores the original PCM when decoded
lossy does not information is trown away

As explained the plugin can't run on your model of NAS due to that the
cpu is not supported .

Run LMS on something else another computer you already have or spend 50$
On a raspberry pi 3 as server .

You can still use the NAS to store the music files .

The streamrate indicates that it's transcoded to PCM rather than FLAC ?
Maybe that device is unable to play flac ?

2017-07-27 Thread Mnyb

Made my move to spotty today it works fine and could imidietly play
different stuff on one of my RPI3 and my BOOM :)

Installation was flawless and the aut process worked fine .

its runs on Linux min 18 64bit in a VM in ESXi on an intel NUC.

Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.1 - 1499900819 @ Thu Jul 13 04:20:16
UTC 2017
Hostname: SqueezeVM
Server IP Address: 192.168.1.82

Operating system: Debian - EN - utf8
Platform Architecture: x86_64-linux

Audio::Scan: 0.95
Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.34_01 (sqlite 3.7.7.1)
Total Players Recognized: 4

How i did it , LMS can be a bit quirky so i was methodical .

* stopped LMS.
* Installed latest 7.9.1 .
* restarted LMS .
*removed all old Spotify plugins .
* went to mysqueezebox.com made sure that there was no traces of spotify
there on any player ?`aperently its been all removed anyway .
* could not find spotty in the plugins list .
*rebooted the whole VM .
* now spotty was there .
* added spotty and restarted LMS .
* followed the instructions authed spotty from my spottyfy app on my

Supose the helper app in LMS should be aware ? you set acconts there to
? I think the problem arises when you have RPI player or old
Squeezeboxes and the helper app only uses one account via LMS

Use the oficial logitech Spotify plugin on LMS and mysqueezebox.com .

Combine that with the SPH plugin to take care of your SB3's . Spotify
Protocol Handler a plugin that you install in LMS .

Basically the oficial plug handles the navigation and SPH makes it playe
on the old squeezebox who normally is not supported .

Triodes plugin is deprecated and is considered usable by most rigth now
.

Linux and therefore most NAS is case sensitive so Album.wav is not the

And no iPeng does not rename playlists and if it would it would not
change anything regard your problem . IPeng is just another ( better )

Is this an iTunes playlist or a playlist created within LMS ?

ITunes playlist, use iTunes.

Playlists within the LMS playlist folder , well LMS has very rudimentary
playlist editing . But try the LMS web-UI instead can they bee rename
there ? If they can we can ask Pippin for it if not it's a limitation of
the server ..

Testing yes you can rename playlist in the web-UI , but is it a frature
of the playlistmanager plugin or standard .
( get this plugin it allows adding Sonys to existing playlists ).

Manage your playlist outside of LMS completely with some better tool of
choice . And then do a playlist rescan in LMS ?
Thats what most people do due the limited functionality LMS has

You can have the shrinking cover art by just toggling play and pause the

It shrinks a couple of percent barely visible , its the cover art .

Small issue with the widget on the lock screen .

Sometimes the play and pause symbol gets mixed up.

When I Pause the stream from iPeng and later comes back to my iPad the
widget does not show a play symbol , it shows the pause even if the
stream is paused .

It works anyway it toggles music on and of regardless of symbol shown at
the widget .

There is a setting in LMS to ignore fileformats any fileformat you just
type *.cue in that setting or *.mp3 or what you fancy.
I just delete cue files or don't bother to create them when I rip . If
the separate flac files are properly tagged you have no use for the cue
( unless you live in the 90's and plan to burn a CD as an exact copy )

Well SPH has a quality setting where you can choose up to 320kBps ( or
lower )

And turn off spotifys own volume normalization ?

And always proxy trough helper app .

Is there similar settings on mysqueezebox.com for the official plugin ??

Yes I'm OK with squeezelite now . I'm updated to 2.40 sure .

I use Fixed IP simply because the router is an apendix in my home
network :) almost every player and stationary computers and servers have
fixed ip and are coinected via switches .
Hence me fumbling with the router or restarting it does not stop the
music , the music system would work of the switches alone except one
player and mobile apps .

Amended the SSH passw via SSH . Have not tried the web-UI password
feature again . The sympton is that the password i actually enter is not
the one in use . I managed once with another browser than the one i used
to set the password and added a blank space ? Set pw in iOS safari enter
the web-UI via Firefox on Linux mint . Itried several times ?
Can it be a keyboard setting somewhere ? I use Englidsh UI and a Swedish
keyboard ?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Max2Play Webinterface for Mediaclients (Audioplayer, Squeezeserver, Airplay, XBMC)

2017-01-22 Thread Mnyb

Well things are working now after some fumbling around .

I recommend to reserve the devices ip in the router as the built in
fixed ip settings somewhats breaks DNS it could for example not install
the VNC plugin in this mode . and did not find all repos for upgrades
(it did find some )

The password plugin is not working properly from any web-browser i tried
. pi and root password can be changed with passwd and you always have su
or sudo . you can only acess as the pi user and then do su.
This is probably a good feature but i wanted to replace the default
paswwords for obvious reasons there must be millions of them with
user=pi password=raspberry and the root password max2play is easilly
googled.

Otherwise its playing music :)

Anyone having a clue about the syntax for squeezelite settings in
max2play i studied the squeezelite manpage but it does not contain
practical examples so one can understand the syntax just a bunch < > :
etc that does not mean much without context.

I did try "-r 96" I want to limit squeezelite to 96k because the HT
processor cant take more , not a big issue as i only have maybe 10
albums in 192k ( I do try to avoid them if I can ).

I'll try the Kodi feature next

Afaik thats in the Radio itself the disco sound resides there . Did not

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2017-01-17 Thread Mnyb

One old thing .

I've always thougth this was a user eror intill read a similar post .
The menu "falls back to genres or artist or something" ?

For example i do a search for an artist , see the artist tap on the name
and I'll see the artist album , but then *sometimes* like magic iPeng
reverts to some basic place ? if I just put my finger in the search
field again the artist is suddenly back as soon as the keyboard appears
? Then I may stick when I hide the keyboard or I do it twice .

One new thing .

I see double players one or two can decide to have twins . After I've
been away for while , when I get home from work for example.

If select the players back and forth a couple of times it fixes itself .
When I'm constantly active during the evening it does not happen .

This new thing may be triggered by me having an even newer 7.9 on a new
OS Linux mint 18 with perl 5.22.1

"browser key" as per post1 ?

Hello i've managed to install , but i have not yet tested (will do after

It throws this interesting message in the log.

Is this something you want to fix , it seems general enough as it comes
from just loading the plugin .

Yes plugin works with a peculiar exception the iOS youtube app ?

I can send youtube audio from the same video played on safari or
Facebook's web browser ? Just not the nativel app.

The native app works fine on an Apple tv.

Yes it works perfectly . Without the firewall

It even works with the firewall if some ports are opened

5354 ,5298 Bonjour/Avahi/MDNS

5000 6000-6003 and port 8000 (raop ?)

AND THE EPHEMERAL PORT RANGE 32768-60999

Devices like my iPhone that sends the airtunes stream responds via some
random ephemeral port.

The typical NOOB guidelines about setting up ones Linux firewall
neglects things like this and advices every one to just drop everything
but the opened ports.

OK enabled bonjour and mDNS (its the same port ?)

Also enabled port 5000 and 600-6003 and 8000

Still no possibility to conect ?

with the ss -t comand i could establish that the iPhone i was casting
from comunicated with a random port >3 to the server .
A diffrent port for each player this was consistent until reboot ,then
there was a new set of random ports ?

the ss -t command here is a snippet with the other stuff on the network
cleaned out

.7 is a squeezebox .82 is the LMS server .106 is the iPhone casting the
music .40 is my desktop with the web-UI

Code:

  State Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address:Port
   Peer Address:Port

  ESTAB 0 0 192.168.1.82:8000
192.168.1.7:52500

  ESTAB 0 0 192.168.1.82:37113
  192.168.1.106:52886

  ESTAB 0 0 192.168.1.82:3483
192.168.1.7:52491

  ESTAB 0 0 192.168.1.82:9000
   192.168.1.40:37202

So my tempoary workaround is the open all ports >3 when i want to
use shairtunes ?

With my limited skill set i've realised that there is something called
"port mapper" involved in this ? is there anything one can do ?

In the filetypes setting in LMS you can disable native for ALAC and/or
AAC then faad will transcode.

Boom does not have native alac or aac support thtas why it happens
automatically for Boom.

If the files are ALAC , apple lossless then you could batch convert them
to FLAC
