Every now and again this board indulges in bouts of mental gymnastics.
You have taken part in the past, but not this time.
Why then are you complaining.

I am afraid it was mostly me - even the captions on the pictures but,
rest assured, you have not upset me at all. It just seems you copped a
few humour hits. I am always sure you will take it as light
 heartedly as
I intend it. Feel free to make with the custard pies in my direction.

Mind you anything is better than that mindlessly anal retentive
discussion of English grammar. Can we move from apostrophes to full
 stop
 now please?

Thanks Roy.

The next time we argue will be the first.
I was tempted and I fell.

To be honest it was not really a complaint more of a joke on the
 nature
of 'full stop' but most of this lengthy discussion, with the exception
of entries like Lau's, was hardly mental gymnastics but mostly and
exercise in pedantry. I didn't take part because I found it mostly
boring. Language evolves. Rules change. The language used by Chaucer
was different from that of Shakespeare by a vast degree which was the
more correct? It shifts like sand. The rules that we use today owe
 more
to a repressive education system trying hard to glue sand during
 the end
of the 19th and early 20th Century. Go back to an earlier time and no
one was fretting about where the apostrophe goes. (In this instance
 mostly up some people's semi-colon.)

What of Joyce and Ulysses? What of Flan O'Brien and 'At Swim Two
Birds'? What of Brian Aldiss and 'Barefoot in the Head'? What about
 the
whole host of artistic, creative and inventive geniuses who bent and
screwed language with no thought for any of this?

Anyhow there you are. I was bored. I made a joke - you didn't get
 it. No
problem. I get just as bored sometimes when people get deeply
 technical
and I often make silly, puerile, jokes then too. Don't turn this into
another argument because I am not playing.

 must...

Having just got back and seen the latest QL today, who have I upset,
seeing as Roy and Geoff seem to have taken every opportunity possible
to have a go at me???

Actually I thought you got off rather lightly. The Senior Statesman was
meant seriously and was a compliment. The other title took me a good half
hour's research in Chesterfield Library.

I was more worried about upsetting others. The first paragraph must have
lost us all our Manchester readers. I thought Roy would object to being
described as an ANCIENT rocker. Sarah is not yet back from holiday, but
she will remind me once again that she is a southerner and not a northerner.

The one person who did complain, although he assured me that an apology was
not necessary was Tony. He tells me that he always sings innocently, but
this time it was in a chamber orchestra and not the church choir.

BTW there is still time to subscribe to QL Today to get the gripping account
of the Hove Show,

Best Wishes,
Geoff

PS Those of you who are members of Quanta will notice that the last QL Today
advert was months out of date. This was a mistake by Quanta and not Roy who
prepares the advert. He had sent a new one, and received an acknowledgement,
but Quanta still used the old one.

Sorry to use the list to convey this private message.

For some reason emails to Jochen are bouncing back, in my case with messages
that I am on a database as a spammer.

I have replied to your email about Quanta with a copy to Roy. Perhaps Roy
could forward this,

Best Wishes,

Geoff

He he, that email was mainly because I wanted to lob a custard pie
into the works as I was getting a bit tired of discussing grandma,
err, sorry, grammar. Someone did suggest we change the subject anyway.

And as you have remarked in the past, I've often given as good as I
got - I did occasionally dish it out while I was editor after all ;-)

[ql-users] easyptr

2006-06-06 Thread Dilwyn Jones
With kind thanks to Marcel, I've been using a beta-release of the
68020 QPC2. Extremely stable for a first release!

I seem to have run into a minor problem with Easyptr 4 which I cannot
pin down enough to trouble Marcel with a definite bug report as yet,
so I need ot ask for help in tracking down a problem.

After altering some menus (usually changing objects in loose items or
resizing some objects) I seem to end up with out of memory errors at
the MDRAW statements when I run the basic program. But find it hard to
duplicate the error reliably.

Anyone else had this problem? It seems to go away if I reload the menu
and save it back out again a second time from Easyptr.

If anyone can replicate this error, please let me know so I can try to
send Marcel a meaningful message about it.

I'm using Easymenu 4.09E and QPC2 3.33 - unfortunately I haven't kept
older copies of QPC2 to see if this is exclusive to this version. I do
have the 68010 version alongside the 68020 version but so far I've
only run into the problem randomly on the 68020 version and don't know
if it's specific to that version or if the proiblem exists on other
versions too.

He he, glad I managed to make you waste half and hour!

I still don't understand the caption about 'hanging two dwarves' -
could one of you enlighten me?

Absolutely no offence taken of course, and I did have advance warning
I'd be the subject of a cartoon! A little ironic I should be on the
receiving end after doing so many of the cartoons myself over the
years :-)

If you really want lessons in how to lose QL friends, look in Toady
Vol 1 Issue 5 What Certain People Get Up At Shows (which was
actually a typo since it should of course have been up to at
shows) - I seem to remember you and Roy copped it in that article
too.

How did the Hove show go on the 28th May?
