Hi

I downloaded the most recent version of SMSQmulator, v3.00 from Wolfgang's web
site.

Still the same. Does not read FLP images and locks the emulator up.

I restored SMSQmulator v2.32 and all works well.

Re: [Ql-Users] SMSQ/E 3.39

2024-02-29 Thread Derek via Ql-Users
Hi Jan

This was posted on the QL Forum:

https://qlforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=2097=PS%2F2+Q68=160

Repeated here:

Just a further note on the topic of PS/2 Splitter cables.

I recently purchased a Genius DX-110 Optical Mouse, on connecting the mouse to
the Q68, via Splitter cable, stopped the Q68 booting up at the Ram Test stage,
or more specifically at the point where the Q68 detects the PS/2 Mouse.

A Perixx Mouse 201-B PS/2 mouse works perfectly.

I examined the Genius DX-110 PS/2 Connector, which has these connections, it
seems that the mouse connections use the Keyboard Data and Clock connections.:

Mouse Data connected to Keyboard Data 1
Mouse Clock connected to Keyboard Clock Pin 5

The Q68 expects the Mouse Data to be on Pin 2 and Mouse Clock on Pin 6 as per
the so-called IBM standard:

This is the probable reason of the failure of PS/2 Mouse(s) (...Mice) on the
Q68, the PS/2 Mouse to be connected to a PC uses the Keyboard Data and Clock
connections and the PC PS/2 Controller chip on the PS/2 Interface decides
whether the data supplied is keyboard or mouse and sends the data to the
correct port.

In the case of the Q68, which uses Pins 2, 6 for Mouse Data and Clock signals
will fail on the PC standard Mouse connections using Pins 1, 5 for Mouse Data
and Clock signals.

A possible solution is to interchange Pin 1,2 and Pin 5,6 for the Q68 to use a
PC PS/2 Mouse.

I have some PS/2 Splitter cables that do not work with the Q68, but
interchanging 4 wires in the Mouse connector, get the splitter working.

Regards
Derek

Hi

I programmed last batch of Q68 with the updated version of FPGA code, which was
given the code reference v1.05r

I have not supplied any of Q68 with the problematic v1.05.

If anyone has any problems or thinks they need a change in FPGA code, please
contact me at: de...@q40.de to arrange a free change in FGPA code.

With regards to the Fast or 40Mhz SD Card access, the limiting factor maybe due
the quality of SD Card. I will have do some more research on the SD Card speeds.

I'm the main in my personal use and tests, reports from other users, the 20Mhz
works with the majority of SD Cards and I configure SMSQ/E with the Fast SD
Card access to NO.

If the Q68 can not reach the 3 Windows command line, then I would use
SMSQmulator to mount the SD Card and Q68_SMSQ.WIN to a EIN drive and then
configure the Q68 SMSQ/E to suit.

This saves defragmentation of the FAT32 partition on the SD Card.

I will update my Minetva4Q68 setup and see what I can find.

Re: [Ql-Users] SMSQ/E 3.39

2024-02-19 Thread Derek via Ql-Users
Hi

Great updates.

One comment with regards to the Q68 update, the WIN1, WIN2 definition in the
SMSQ/E config blocks, is defined as:

Unfortunately, the file names in the SMSQ/E config blocks are not correct, as
detailed in the Q68 Manuals.

The Config Block values are:

WIN1: QXL.WIN
WIN2: SMS33Q.WIN

So the Q68 may not find the WIN1 QWA container file.

The Q68 will startup to the normal 3 SMSQ/E/QL windows, but will not find the
WIN1 drive, normally the WIN drives are defined:

WIN1: QLWA.WIN
WIN2: QLWA2.WIN

Just type LRUN "win8_boot" to run the Menuconfig programme to alter the SMSQ/E
defaults.

Also the SD card speed is defaulting 40Mhz , which on normal SD Cards causes a
lockup. Needs to be 20Mhz or NO in the defaults.

One other strange thing is the Q68_SMSQ.WIN file has the English Menu_Rext and
German Menuconfig.

I have already reported this to Wolfgang

Re: [Ql-Users] SMSQE on HATARI

2021-02-04 Thread Derek via Ql-Users
Hi,

So to configure the QXL.WIN file, define it as a SCSI device in the command
line, which points the emulator to the QXL.WIN file, then use theWIN_DRIVE
command in SMS/E to define WIN1

I will give this a try once I get SMSQE.PRG to load into Hatari on Mint Linux.

What should the screen definition be to load SMSQ/E?

Hi,

The Hatari manual states, the commad line can have options entered for Hard
Drive Options:

--scsi = Emulate a SCSI hard drive with given bus ID (0-7) using
image . If just a filename is given, it is assigned to bus ID 0

So maybe: hatari --scsi 0=qxl.win

Re: [Ql-Users] Q40i/Q60 board availability

2020-06-12 Thread Derek via Ql-Users
Hi Jason,

The Q60 was batch produced from 2002 till 2005, where there seemed no more
demand for the Q60 at that time.

The Q60 and Q40i was produced in board option and could be supplied built into
PC AT Midi Tower Case.

The Q40i was an enhanced Q40 that could have 128K ram, which differentiated
from the Qbranch Q40.

For the amount of Q60 boards and complete systems buuilt and sold, there was no
failures. It is wonder batch run was so successful, with all the adverse QL
media attention. See the QL-USERS mailing list history and QL Today scanned
magazines for more information on this.

The boards and parts that Peter talks about are the Q40 boards donated by Tony
Firshman with many faults, I gave to s German QL group for possible repairs.
But this maybe highly unlikely due the bad construction and suspect parts
supplied by the previous supplier.

I have some Q60 boards that I built in 2003, but due an article in QL Today
about 68060 CPU mask numbers, many Q60 owners removed the heat sink on the CPU
to read the CPU Mask code. However, the problem is they did not fit the heat
sink correctly, causing damage to the CPU.

I did consider building more Q60 boards, as I sold all the Q60s and did not
have one for myself. So I may do a limited production of the Q60 board in the
future.

Currently, the Q68 is main production model.

Re: [Ql-Users] SMSQE 3.36

2020-04-19 Thread Derek via Ql-Users
Hi,

No need to use CD ROM disks, as I have a PC with an SD Card reader on it in the
house...

I insert the 32Gb SD Card into the reader and copy the QWA container file
(QXL.WIN file) to it and insert the SD Card into the Q68 SD Card reader Slot 2,
mount the SD Card and read the files.

Or connect Q68 via SerNET to QPC2 and read the files over the network.

CD-ROM disks not required, they only hold 650mb.

Also there are no USB drivers for the Q68 or any QL computers.

Re: [Ql-Users] SMSQE 3.34

2018-12-03 Thread Derek via Ql-Users
Hi,

I usually configure SMSQ/E with Menuconfig prior to sending out to anyone.

But I use the LANG_USE and KBD_TABLE commands in my boot file to explicitly set
the Langauge options.

I also noted that only the German Menuconfig was supplied in the Q68_SMSQ.WIN
update to v3.34

I have copied the English Menuconfig to Q68_SMSQ.WIN

So changing the Q68 SMSQ/E defaults is performed by LRUN "win8_boot" which
loads menuconfig and the Q68 SMSQ/E file.

& QD
There seems to be a problem with QD on my Q68.
When running Q68 in high resolution 1024x768 and the QD window is set at
80 characters, editing is fine as long as I stay within this 80 chrs
margin.
I can move the cursor beyond that but when a character is inserted the
whole machine freezes.

Also with a wider QD window, typing beyond the 80 chrs margin locks up
SMSQ.
Setting the right margin at 100 seems to fix the problem but only moves it
to position 101.

This was tested with QD's v9 and vB.01 and has never been a problem on
QPC2 or SMSQmulator so seems limited to QD interacting with SMSQ/E on the
Q68.

Any ideas?
Bob

This v333 is configured differently then the previous one that came with

Re: [Ql-Users] SMSQ/E 3.33

2018-04-30 Thread Derek via Ql-Users
Hi Bob,
The Q68 system files Q68_SMSQ.WIN or Q68_SMSQ.SYS have to be located on FAT32
partition.
The FAT device is used to access a FAT16 partition. Used to interchange data
from Q68 and other PC or MAC computers.
Any updated Q68_SMS.WIN file must be located in the first 16 entries in the
FAT32 file system.
You can see the file entries by using the CARD_DIR$ function.
To see the FAT32 entries on Card 1 use:
PRINT CARD_DIR$(1)
The safest way to update SMSQ/E on a Q68 is to copy the Q68_SMSQ.WIN file to a
separate SD Card and insert this into Q68 SD Card Slot 2.
Power on Q68, with working SD Card. The current SMSQ/E WIN file is defined at
WIN8_ by default.
You have to initialise Sd Card 2 and mount the new updates WIN file that can be
done by:
CARD_INIT 2WIN_DRIVE 7,2,"Q68_SMSQ.WIN"WCOPY WIN7_ , WIN8_
If you only want the Q68_SMSQ.SYS file to start the Q68. Then the updated file
has to be placed on the SD Card with Windows/Linux/Mac.
Please refer to the SMSQ/E manual with regards fragmentation of the SD Card
FAT32 file system.

Thanks Wolfgang for the update.
But there are some confusing aspects about the Q68 files.
Both count 350.000 bytes, one .SYS and one .WIN.
When Viewed they look the same. Should the .WIN not be a valid QLWA file
containing the .sys?

I've copied the .sys to the existing Q68_SMSQ.WIN on my SD using QPC2,
replacing the previous SMSQ. The existing BOOT was used to start the Q68.
The boot file now gave an error on FAT_DRIVE 'unknown procedure'.
Looking at the list of commands with HyperHelp showed no FAT_ keywords
were found.

I do not think it is possible to decompile the Qliberated programme.

My instension was to rewrite DM5 based on the way yhe menuing system works.
This maybe a hard job, msybe easier than writing a Decompiler.

[Ql-Users] Q68 Order Process

Hi,

My apologies for the delay in the commencement of the Q68 order process. There
was a  little more work involved with the Q68 case. I have completed this work
and am in a position to start supplying the Q68.

I have created a list of people that have shown interest in the Q68. Which was
sourced from QL Forum (UK,DE), QL Users list, email. The order of the list is
based on the date of interest shown.

I will contact each person to establish the validity of the Q68 order, with
specfic instructions to start the order process.

I have revised the cost of the Q68, this due to the work involved with the Q68
Case and assembling the Q68 main board into the case.

The revised prices are:

Q68 Main Board:  £150.00
Q68 built into custom case: £180.00
PS/2 Splitter: £2.00

That, plus QPRT v0.14 does the trick.

However, I'm still puzzled that the missing keyword from QPTR didn't

Re: [Ql-Users] TYPE_IN

2017-10-02 Thread Derek via Ql-Users
Hi,
According to the Turbo Toolkit manual. The TYPE_IN input buffer stops when
CHR$(10) is entered of the selected console window.
The TYPE_IN command is directed to channel 0.
The manual also also the Superbasic KEYROW clears the keyboard type ahead
buffer. So the text is lost.
The COMMAND_LINE command opens Superbasic interpreter command line.
Not sure ithis would work on SMSQ/E Sbasic works slightly different way.
Why not use Sbasic and multitasking basics...

Lee,

are you running on SMSQ/E? Are you maybe running PE with PE_BGOFF?

That will not allow your background program to run when it has (even partially)
obstructed windows. So, if you "TYPE_IN" something into an obstructed S*Basic
window, the job owning that window will not be able to digest your input,
leading to such buffer overflows.

Try PE_BGON to activate background window processing.

It might be better to have a new keyword, TK_TYPE$, which would return “TK”,

Hi Michael, I dont know why it doesnt work for you. I just clicked on the
link now and it works for me. Try copying the link and pasting it in your
browser. The article is about searching for specific keywords in
SuperBASIC, SBASIC and compiled BASIC without the use of an external
toolkit.

PS Apologies if Im top-posting or bottom-posting or whatever one objects
to. Im not at home, with my normal email client, and am at the mercy of
whatever my browser-based email client thinks appropriate. (HELL is stupid
programs that THINK they are clever (or rather those who made them))

Replacement Mouse
Hi,

I have been having a problem sourcing a replacement mouse for my Aurora system.
Serial mice have vanished even on ebay and also PS2/serial combo mice scarce.
Does anyone know is mice adapters for the Atari and Amiga will work with
Aurora/Qx0 serial ports?

See link to ebay :
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/The-New-MKIV-Amiga-Atari-USB-mouse-adapter-converter-with-mode-switch-jumpers-/121413700949?epid=1788636590=item1c44

The adapter if it works allows use of easily obtained USB mice.

Thanks
