Dabei geht es darum, dass free software nicht nur die Macht der Software-Konzerne beschränkt, sondern auch die Möglichkeit schaffen soll, die Armen und Marginalisierten selbstbestimmt an Kultur teilhaben zu lassen, sie zu eigenem lokalen Inhalt anzuregen und damit auch die regionale Kultur und Kreativität zu fördern. Brasilien könnte so zu einem Vorbild für die open source-Bewegung werden. Brasilien ist ein Beispiel für einen anderen Umgang mit neuen Technologien, der ganz im Sinne der Grünen ist. Damit ist das Land ein wichtiger Bündnispartner gegen rein komerzielle Ansätze der Internetpolitik und Monopolisierungstendenzen am Software-Markt. Aber keine Angst. monochrom wird den 12er-Würfel nicht allzu oft einsetzen. Geregeltes Storytelling ist das Stichwort. monochrom entwickelte die Background-Welt, die Gesamtgeschichte und sechs Einzelerzählungen. Johannes Grenzfurthner und Roland Gratzer werden die Funktion der so genannten Gamemaster übernehmen. Andy Hallwaxx und Annette Isabella Holzmann verkörpern die beiden Hauptrollen. Die jeweils wechselnden Gäste werden sich aus SchauspielerInnen des Ensembles und bekannten Persönlichkeiten der Wiener und österreichischen Szene zusammensetzen. Das Team sitzt und spielt/erzählt auf der Bühne der wunderschönen Roten Bar. Das Publikum kann erleben, wie sich über die sechs Abende eine große -- let's say -- Abenteuergeschichte entwickelt. Zur Handlung: Der populäre Lokalsender PLUS tv hatte immer sensationelle Bilder. Von der Krumpendorfer Rotwanderung, vom Tatra-Outbreak, vom 3:2 gegen Süd-Karinthien, von der Kernschmelze im Praterreaktor und sogar von der Befreiung von Lotte Dampasch. Doch leider war keine der Stories von Fratt Aigner. Fratt ist seit zwölf Jahren Videoblogger beim PLUS tv und schafft den Karrieresprung einfach nicht. Sein Harnsäurewert ist weit über Durchschnitt, seine page visits sind unter jeder Sau und aus der Email-Verteilerliste für Kino-Pressevorführung ist er vorgestern rausgeflogen. Als die Welt noch unterging Vergessene Subkulturen der Siebziger und Achtziger Jahre Vortrag von Frank Apunkt Schneider Montag, 13. November 2006, 18:30. Informationsdesign / Studio Frank Apunkt Schneider, *1969, lebt zurzeit als unfreier Autor und unfreier Künstler in Bamberg. Er ist Mitglied der KünstlerInnengruppe monochrom in Wien und schreibt u.a. für Testcard, Bad Alchemy und Intro. Für den Ventil-Verlag hat er das Buch Als die Welt noch unterging. Von Punk nach NDW verfasst, das voraussichtlich im Frühjahr 2007 erscheinen wird. Als die Welt noch unterging ist eine ausführliche und materialreiche Chronik zur Entstehung und Entwicklung des Punk- und New-Wave-Untergrunds in Deutschland zwischen 1977 und 1985, der als so genannte Neue Deutsche Welle bekannt wurde. Er wird als Zusammenspiel von sozialgeschichtlichen und politischen Faktoren mit der popästhetischen Entwicklung gedeutet, und unter Zuhilfenahme ausgewählter Einzelphänomene ausführlich erläutert als bedeutsamer Bestandteil der gegenkulturellen Geschichte, der sich gegen die Vereinnahmungen durch nationale Popgeschichtsschreibungsmodelle stellt. Von daher berücksichtigt die mit Als die Welt noch unterging vorgelegte Gegen-Geschichte vor allem die Aspekte, die sich durch ihre Sperrigkeit und Entlegenheit der offiziellen Historisierung durch Jürgen Teipel und andere bislang weitgehend entzogen haben wie die Kassettenszene, die Fanzines (das sind kleinauflagige Zeitschriften aus der Szene für die Szene), regionale Szenen usw. Deren Geschichte lag bislang bestenfalls in Umrissen vor. Ergänzend hierzu soll in dem Vortrag Bei Verwendung einer Beatband in der Lautstärke auf die Gemeinde und den Raum Rücksicht nehmen! eine weitere fast vergessene Subkultur der deutschen Popgeschichte vorgestellt werden: Der Sakropop. Der Schwund an jugendlichen Gottesdienstbesuchern wurde in den 1970er Jahren nicht selten mit der weitgehenden Ausgrenzung der Lebenswelt von Jugendlichen aus dem Gottesdienstgeschehen erklärt. Notgedrungen musste die Kirche Popmusik als deren wichtigste Ausdrucksform akzeptierten. Die lange, schwierige, zähe und tragikomische Integration von Pop in die Kirche erzählt die Geschichte des Sakropop. Sakropop ist eines der merkwürdigsten Sub-Genre des Pop überhaupt, praktiziert lediglich innerhalb einer beinahe unsichtbaren und völlig unvermittelbaren Subkultur. Er hat die zahllosen Widersprüche zwischen religiösem Dogmatismus und popkulturellem Freiheitsversprechen in sich aufgenommen und in eine adäquate, von jeglicher üblichen Bedeutung von Pop komplett entfremdete Form gebracht. Ist es eine Verwechslungskomödie mit zwei Wirtinnen? Oder doch nur Sozialvoyeurismus im Oktalquadranten? Der intrapersonelle Kampf um Sprechsekunden führt die Schauspielerinnen an die Grenzen minimalistischer Figurenkonstruktion. Mai 2007 um 20:00 Uhr im Rahmen der Projektion ( http://www.monochrom.at/projektion ) Thomas Ballhausen wird einen einführenden Vortrag halten. Danach Screening und Diskussion. Im Museumsquartier/Wien, QDK (gleich neben dem monochrom-Office.) = Seymour Krelborn, dargestellt von Rick Moranis, ist der tragikomische Held in dem wohl wichtigsten Horror-Musical der (Film)Geschichte, The Little Shop Of Horrors. Er ist ein kleiner, geknechteter Angestellter im schlecht gehenden Blumenladen des griesgrämigen Mr. Mushnik, der in der heruntergekommenen down town einer vage als New York erkennbaren Stadt zu finden ist. Einzig die andere Angestellte dort, die von ihm aus der Ferne bewunderte Audrey, verleiht seinem ansonsten tristen Leben einen kleinen Anflug von Glanz und Schönheit. Nur ist Audrey, die von einem kleinen Glück träumt und sich insgeheim auch zu Seymour hingezogen fühlt, leider bereits an den sadistischen Zahnarzt Orin Scrivello -- Steve Martin in einer seiner besten Rollen -- vergeben. Die Dinge könnten also nicht schlimmer stehen. Doch, wie in jedem guten Horrorfilm, kommt es natürlich noch schlimmer: Der Blumenladen ist von der Schließung bedroht, zur emotionalen Krise scheint sich nun auch noch die existenzielle zu gesellen. Einer Idee von Audrey nachgebend, stellt Seymour eine jüngst erworbene, exotische Pflanze in die Auslage, um doch noch Kundschaft anzulocken. Der sprichwörtliche letzte Strohhalm, die von Seymour als Audrey II getaufte Pflanze, erweist sich als Glücksbringer. Das Geschäft scheint gerettet, doch dann droht Audrey II zu verwelken. Alle botanischen Künste des Dr. Greenthumb Seymour versagen, eher zufällig entdeckt er dann das heilende Wundermittel: menschliches Blut. In ungewöhnlichem Tempo wächst Audrey II weiter und entwickelt schließlich sogar die Möglichkeit des Sprechens -- ein Umstand, den sie ganz zu ihren Gunsten einzusetzen weiß: Sehr schnell gewinnt sie den schüchternen Floristen mit dem Versprechen, seine Kollegin Audrey doch noch für sich gewinnen zu können, als treuen Diener. Seymours Blut allein reicht aber schon lange nicht mehr aus, den Appetit der außerirdischen Pflanze, denn nichts anderes ist Audrey II, zu stillen und nach einigem Zögern ist der Liebeskranke zu einer Vielzahl fragwürdiger, ja verbrecherischer Taten bereit. Als aber auch Audrey auf der Speisekarte des zum tentakelbewehrten Monsters angewachsenen Unkrauts stehen soll, ist ein Kampf Grünzeug gegen Romantiker unausweichlich. Und, wie in einem guten Genreklassiker nicht anders zu erwarten, steht schlussendlich wesentlich mehr auf dem Spiel als die Liebe der zwei Pechvögel... The Little Shop Of Horros (1986) basiert auf dem schwarzhumorigen gleichnamigen B-Movie Roger Cormans aus dem Jahre 1960 und dem erfolgreichen Musical von Howard Ashman und Alan Menken, das 1982 uraufgeführt wurde. Wesentlich für Frank Oz' Neuverfilmung blieb aber auch das ursprüngliche Drehbuch von Charles B. Griffith, das abgesehen von der Gestaltung des Endes, beibehalten wurde. Griffith hatte mehrfach mit der Horrorfilm-Legende Corman zusammengearbeitet, Filme mit sprechenden Titeln wie Attach Of The Crab Monsters (1957), Beast From The Haunted Cave (1959) oder Creature From The Haunted Sea (1961) sind die Ergebnisse dieser langjährigen Kooperation. Viele der erhaltenen klassischen Gruselelemente des Films gehen auf seine Ideen und Erfahrungen zurück. Die Geschichte um eine bedrohliche Pflanze aus dem All war zum Zeitpunkt der Erstverfilmung freilich nicht ganz neu: So findet sich schon in The Thing From Another World (1951) ein menschenverschlingendes, pflanzliches Alien. Nach dem Little Shop Of Horros ist dieser Themenkreis aber eher selten wieder auf der Kinoleinwand zu finden gewesen. Ausnahmen stellen hier The Freakmaker (1972), Please Don't Eat My Mother (1973 - eine Softcore-Version der Little Shop-Story), die Filme um die Killer Tomatoes (ab 1978), The Pickle (1993), The Gardener (1998) und das Auftreten der gleichermaßen betörenden wie gefährlichen Figur der Poison Ivy in Joel Schumachers Batman Robin (1997) dar. In seiner Verbindung von großartiger Musik, Camp-Ästhetik und erotisch aufgeladener Schauerromantik ist Oz' The Little Shop Of Horrors aber einzigartig geblieben. Ganz im Gegensatz zu seiner Neuverfilmung der Stepford Wives hat er hier eine gelungene Aktualisierung vorgelegt, die die Möglichkeiten des US-amerikanischen Kinos der Achtziger Jahre schlüssig mit dem Charme der Hollywood-Studioproduktionen verbindet. = Wie, wann, wo? They birthed it as Lord Jim Lodge and created a slogan (Nobody Helps Nobody) and a logo (Sun Breasts Hammer), with the intention that the logo should become more well-known than that of Coca-Cola. This, we might say, was a somewhat classic way of being stuck in the powerlessness of 1980ies-antiart-art. The members of the lodge used the logo on many of their artworks and tried to distribute it that way. Martin Kippenberger -- who became one of the bestselling German artists of the 20th century only after his death in 1997 -- used it on his installations and self-portraits. The Lodge was quite active, at one moment even publishing a low-circulation magazine, but after Kippenberger's death a growing disinterest of the other members the Lodge seemed to predominate. It seems the project had been charged with high symbolic capital, but low in effort. So in 2005 Jörg Schlick invited members of the group monochrom to a talk and informed them about a severe sickness then over-taking him - essentially indicating that he can't take care of the Lodge any longer. He asked monochrom to use it and to do more projects, to let it rock. monochrom thought about the concept of rocking and had the idea of a hostile take-over, of restarting the Lodge, creating franchises, profit-maximizing the prestitious brand that nobody cared about in a long time. monochrom created a fake art-consulting company called Teyssandier-Springer that would represent the investment group monochrom. Teyssandier-Springer called in a press conference in Berlin and invited journalists and people from the art world. Teyssandier-Springer reported that they had sent out letters to all the important museums and galleries worldwide (like MOMA, etc.) containing the information that monochrom had bought all the Lodge's rights including the trademark rights for the logo - and monochrom is now investigated as exploiting possible infringements of the trademark. Many extremly valueable artworks would feature the logo -- including Kippenberger's beststelling paintings. So monochrom asserted its rights to proportionate financial remuneration for the use of its intellectual property and that the group intended to take legal action to ensure compliance. The responding letters and telephone calls were dominated by the wish for a settlement out of court, for example gallery X in Y: Our associate, Mr. Z, will contact you regarding a more exact appraisal of the sum involved. The media reported about the legal art crisis. The process caused big trouble in the so-called art world. This was an interesting effect, because it seemed to indicate that that art world was not at all briefed about something like copy/trademark rights. The rumor geysers didn't stop. The profit-oriented group monochrom wanted to speed up business and took part in an art contest called Coca Cola Light Art Edition, mainly because the members remembered that one of the original ideas of the Lodge was to beat Coca-Cola in the mass market of signs. monochrom stamped the logo onto a piece of paper, sent in the application and won. The logo was printed on 50.000 bottles of Coca-Cola Light and the group got 5000 euros of prize money. Not a bad performance for six months of business activity. monochrom sought out a possibility to present their market leadership and chose the format of twelve oil paintings. monochrom created twelve photoshop files and sent them to China. Guo Cun Can, a Chinese painter painted them in oil (140x100cm) in three weeks, sent them back to Europe and charged 2500 euros. monochrom is now selling them for 4500 euros per piece. Guo Cun Can will get a big portion of the sales, and will probably live from it for a long, long time. China, the biggest copy market in the world, is not only interested in copying Harry Potter books, DVDs or Nike shoes, they are also reproducing paintings. Here we meet professional faker, forgers, copiers... at least as long as capitalist economics of low labour costs allows it. monochrom: A BRAVE NEW PONG --- http://www.monochrom.at/pong/ The age of competition Through the dark and not so dark millennia of human history, we have organized ourselves into adversarial cliques, communities, and nations. World events were like deadly pong balls hurdling towards us, and these groups were the paddles who's goal it was to knock the ball into someone else's court. Add military might as the means of wealth distribution to an inefficient system which eats surplus wealth to sustain itself, and competition became the fabric of everyday life. The technology necessary for global cooperation did not exist. Competition was thus established as the default way of interacting with the world. In its genteel form competition meant games where nobody got killed. Gladiators turned to soccer turned to table tennis. By 1972 computers became advanced enough to simulate competitive games, and Pong was born. Pong is a vestigial trace of our competitive nature. If we don't want the pong ball to go off the table, we can program the computer to control the paddles better than any human can. Our desire to play competitive pong versus other humans through obsolete hand operation is nothing but a vain show of relative one-upmanship. There is no point to competitive gaming in the computer age. The technology pill Technology could save us if we'd let it. There is enough material wealth for everyone on the planet to have a sturdy home and a steady food supply, if we stop competing and use our global communication and computation capabilities to level the playing field. In the brave new version of Pong, there is no need to try to hit the ball into someone else's court. Relax. Move the ball wherever you want and the computer will make sure it doesn't fall off the table. What is good about competition? Competitive systems such as evolution and capitalism are terrific at creating unpredictable change very quickly. It's the trial-by-error system. If you're looking for a wide variety of output, competitive systems are the best. Not only will the product of such systems tend to improve over time, they'll fill just about any niche available to them. Competition can be a great inspiration to develop skills related to the goal, which is great if inspiration is needed and the skills are useful ones. In a system like pong however, you just wind up getting better at playing pong. A competitive system also is great for ensuring that people who are ahead in the game get exactly what they want when they want it, like the hawk who uses highly evolved vision to catch it's prey, or like first-worlders who use their superior buying power to get iPods. Why is competition an outdated ideal? Although competitive systems produce such good things as human beings and diet cola, we also wind up with such things as wooly mammoths and guided missiles. It's a horribly inefficient way of producing things people truly need. Most energy in a competitive system is spent not in producing a product, but in staying competitive. In evolution this manifests in a less than desirable cycle of predator-prey adaptation escalation, where more energies are spent surviving than enjoying life. In capitalism it results the same sort of relationship, except between those with capital value and those without. People who don't have capital value are trapped working for those who do, and their energies are directed towards keeping their team competitive. A waste of resources. In our competitive system, most of our energies are redundant and wasteful. Redundancy is the result of the wasted overhead when multiple people are working on the same problem in different teams. Team Coke and Team Pepsi are both working on the cola problem, but each spends huge amounts of resources battling the other. Even within a supposedly cooperative society, most businesses exist in order to support other businesses. How much would the production of our essential goods decrease if we laid off our accountants, and all the people who supply computers to them, and all the people who print brochures for the computer salesman, and the people who produce the ink for those brochures, and the people who make packaged food for the truckers who drive those materials around. Think of the construction workers who build our office towers, and the companies that supply raw materials, and the miners who dig them out of the earth, and the manufactures of processed food, since everyone involved is too busy to feed themselves. This is all within the same nation-system, where we supposedly share a common goal! In pong, the fact that your opponent keeps hitting the ball at you means you must spend your resources defending your goal instead of using your time for more noble endeavors. Media and Interaction Design @ FH Joanneum, Graz A degree in the master programme Media and Interaction Design provides various professional opportunities in the fields of all the creative industries. The main focus of this programme lies on the design of multi-media contents as well as of communication and interaction processes which help to convey multi-media contents to the user. The following areas are included in the Media and Interaction Designers' fields of activity: Communication Design The main emphasis of Communication Design lies in advertising, public relations and communication of cultural institutions and of sciences. Priority is given to the interpretation, editing and communication of information in the widest sense. The creative and technical means range from posters to new media. Interaction Design Interaction Design deals with the user-centered design of technical instruments and multi-media information and communication systems, taking mainly functional and ergonomic features into account. Usability design of interfaces of everyday life is as important as the development of more advanced interface scenarios: Interaction Designers create software interfaces, UMTS-mobiles, PDAs, input devices of consumer electronics as well as interactive multi-media visualisation spaces, multi-media installations or augmented realities. Generation of Content and Editing of Information The media need content which has to be designed according to the technologies used. Especially with new technologies such as virtual reality or computer game design media-dramaturgical skills are needed in order to create these new multi-media spaces. In the field of video and audio production design projects which link traditional media and new technologies to create aesthetically advanced solutions are required. Concept Conceptional work takes place in the fields of creative direction, art direction, technical concepts and marketing. The students need interdisciplinary thinking in order to discern possible space for design projects even in areas in which they maybe do not have all the necessary technical knowledge. They should also be able to strategically plan these design projects in a dramaturgically meaningful way. Project Management / Project Communication Project management, the communication with the customer and the communication within the team are of special importance in complex projects. In order to successfully complete these tasks, a talent for organizing, psychological skills as well as an excellent comprehension of creative processes and their necessity is crucial. Syllabus In order to prepare the students well for a great number of job opportunities, they first attend introductory courses in which the basics are conveyed. Then a combination of design courses, humanities, technical and economical subjects is offered in which in depth knowledge of all aspects of media and interaction design is being taught, providing practically oriented instruction. Additionally, students work in real world projects, carried out in cooperation with companies of the creative industries, but also with cultural institutions such as festivals, media centres, etc. Within these projects students have the possibility of establishing their own priorities in order to further specialize. At the end of this master programme, students write a master thesis, proving their educational success. Media and Interaction Designer do not only have design competence and special media-technical knowledge, but also interdisciplinary thinking which comprises many aspects of Media and Interaction Design. In addition to their responsibility of design matters they have the ability to interpret design processes in the media from a general view and to cross the boundaries of the state of the art of media processes and techniques. They know how to use media technologies in a dramaturgically meaningful way. Moreover, they are able to show understanding for cultural and economical processes in their field of activity. Being a generalist, they have the best qualifications for a varied career. After having completed the master programme Media and Interaction Design the potential professional fields include new media agencies, web design agencies, the advertising industry, graphic and design agencies, the game industry and event management. Scott Blake takes barcodes and turns them into art - art that is simultaneously pop and op, intellectual and personal, minimal and ocular. He employs the black and white symbol of standardization and efficiency - to craft a subversive style of digital pointillism. Large-scale iconography of celebrities examines the relationship between the individual and the media commodity - the human being and his or her adaptation to pixilated, simplified cultural symbol. Since he began working with digital pointillism in 1998, Blake's paintings, videos, and net art have been featured in a score of publications, including The New York Times, Adbusters, FHM Magazine, and Art Papers. The recipient of an Adobe Design Achievement Award from the creators of Photoshop, Blake's pieces can be found in private collections throughout the world. In addition, his work has been commissioned by parties ranging from the University of Ottawa to Jane Fonda. Der Schwund an jugendlichen Gottesdienstbesuchern wurde in den 1970er Jahren nicht selten mit der weitgehenden Ausgrenzung der Lebenswelt von Jugendlichen aus dem Gottesdienstgeschehen erklärt. Notgedrungen musste die Kirche Popmusik als deren wichtigste Ausdrucksform akzeptierten. Die lange, schwierige, zähe und tragikomische Integration von Pop in die Kirche erzählt die Geschichte des Sakropop. Sakropop ist neue Kirchenmusik mit Stilmitteln moderner Popularmusik, so Martin Bubmann, der Diedrich Diederichsen der Szene. Sakropop hat die zahllosen Widersprüche zwischen religiösem Dogmatismus und popkulturellem Freiheitsversprechen in sich aufgenommen und in eine adäquate Form gebracht: Sakropop ist die vielleicht entfremdetste Form von Pop. Nichts an ihm ist authentisch! Und das ist ja schon wieder Pop. Sakropop stellt eines der merkwürdigsten Sub-Genre des Pop dar, praktiziert lediglich innerhalb einer beinahe unsichtbaren und völlig unvermittelbaren Subkultur. Eben: ?Incredibly strange music?. It went into a panic and produced these very stupid technophobic manifestos and images e.g. of the computer. Pop music discovered and explored the computer not only as a musical instrument but also as something to sing and reflect about in a less aversive way. In doing so it influenced the conception people had of computers. The public image of computers was shaped by groups such as Kraftwerk as well as through obscure Schlager songs such as France Gall's Computer No. 3. Arse Elektronika 2008: Do Androids Sleep with Electric Sheep? Call for Papers ARSE ELEKTRONIKA 2008 Do Androids Sleep with Electric Sheep? Critical Perspectives on Sexuality and Pornography in Science and Social Fiction Taking up where the successful conference in autumn 2007 left off, this year's Arse Elektronika stands under the motto future -- and the ways in which the present sees itself reflected in it. Maintaining a broadened perspective on technical development and technology while also putting special emphasis on its social implementation, this year's conference focuses on Science and Social Fiction. The genre of the fantastic is especially well suited to the investigation of the touchy area of sexuality and pornography: actual and assumed developments are frequently depicted positively and approvingly, but just as often with dystopian admonishment. Here the classic, and continuingly valid, themes of modernism represent a clear link between the two aspects: questions of science, research and technologization are of interest, as is the complex surrounding urbanism, artificiality and control (or the loss of control). Depictions of the future, irregardless of the form they take, always address the present as well. Imaginations of the fantastic and the nightmarish give rise to a thematic overlapping of the exotic, the alienating and, of course, the pornographic/sexual as well. In order to intelligently contextualize the abundance of queries that are involved here, this year's conference will be structured around three day-long discussion panels, each devoted to a specific theme. The impossibility of fitting many of these issues and relationships into such neat categorizations is not only accepted, but also encouraged. Panel 1: Narration Narrative positions and narrative media are closely linked in the treatment of the sexual and the pornographic. In the area of fantasization and its great variety of media differentiations (film, literature, computer games, etc.) this fundamental phenomenon is also expanded through the facet of a highly influential fan fiction. Submissions for this panel should deal e.g. with specific aspects of individual media, media complexes, distribution or reception. Panel 2: Technology Sexuality and pornography are manifestations of a social reality and are directly linked to questions of technological innovation, whereby fantasizing can also function as a motor of innovation. Submissions for this panel should deal e.g. with the present and future of technological developments, with social-technological aspects (e.g. space travel, plastic surgery, etc.) or with conditions of technologically driven development. Panel 3: Politics Science (and social) fiction, sexuality and pornography are often infused with colonialization strategies, conceptions of social norms and political strategies. Here the utopian, the dystopian and the xenophobic are mixed into a dangerous and interpretationally potent concoction. Submissions to this panel should deal with e.g. the juridification of the body, biopolitical standardization processes, political systems of domination and taboos surrounding interracial sex. Submission requirements: The 1-2 page submission, written in English, should be thematically oriented toward one of the three discussion panels. It should contain clear information regarding the methodology and up-to-dateness of the thesis it puts forth and detail the technical equipment required for the lecture's delivery. In 2007 we started a project to honour religions which are not into that blunt one-church-under-one-God-stuff, but hail to the chaotic postmodern multitude of Gods and Goddesses. Religion should be like a swinger club, we believe. A dark room where you worship a God but you don't even know which God you're worshipping. That would be pretty cool we think. Worshipping Gods and Goddesses doesn't need to be some boring and dull and heteronomous thing for bores and squares clinging to whatever bloody tradition they have inherited. It can be a ride to the shopping mall of the unknown. Go out with one God/Goddess, come home with another. Worship one God/Goddess in your living room, while you hide another God's/Goddess's sacrificial altar in the toilet. Tell everybody you're into Greek Gods/Godesses but actually worship Polynesian ones whe nobody's watching. Play off the Norse Gods/Godesses against Hinduism. Let them fight and use their superpowers to entertain you. And so on. Polytheism is a big party that screams Bring your own God! on the invitation. Now you understand why we were so sad about it being over. Damn you, 12/31/2007! Fucking monotheist moderation tricked us again: Fun is an ocean but it ends at the shore! /// Verückt, total: Welt /// In den späten 1950ern und frühen 1960ern zeichnete sich der Niedergang des großen Kinos ab. Der neue Konkurrent Fernsehen wilderte beträchtlich in den Jagdgründen der Kinoindustrie. Die Studios versuchten gegen diesen Schwund anzugehen... und eine Möglichkeit war cineastischer Bombast. Spektakel. More is more. Und wundersamer Weise funktionierte das manchmal auch. +++ Die Geschichte von It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World Nachdem er so gewichtige Filme wie Das Urteil von Nürnberg und Wer den Wind sät drehte, hat Stanley Kramer 1963 den Wunsch, etwas weniger schweres zu machen. Und die Studios wollten Massen ins Kino locken. Nun, an der Komödie It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World (Eine total, total verrückte Welt) gibt es gar nichts, was der Beschreibung weniger gerecht werden könnte. Mit seinem angeberisch wirkenden Cast, der sich ausschließlich aus Stars zusammensetzt -- darunter Schauspiellegende Spencer Tracey in seinem dritten von insgesamt vier Projekten mit Kramer - wird der überlange Film häufig als die ultimative Komödie gehandelt. In der Tat ist der Einfluss der total verrückten Welt in sämtlichen Road Comedies von Cannonball Run bis Rat Race festzustellen. +++ Zur Handlung: Nach fünfzehn Jahren kommt Smiler Grogan endlich aus dem Gefängnis frei. Er will so schnell wie möglich nach Santa Rosita, wo er nach seinem letzten großen Coup eine (für 1963 noch enorm wirkende Summe von) 350.000 US-Dollar versteckt hat. Doch Grogan verunglückt. Die acht Zeugen des Unfalls können nichts mehr für ihn tun, aber der sterbende Grogan beschreibt ihnen, wo sie das versteckte Geld finden können. Doch wie soll das Geld aufgeteilt werden? Well... ihr könnt euch schon vorstellen wie: gar nicht. Vollgas. Somit beginnt ein 200 Meilen langes Rennen zum (Spoiler) großen W mit einem de-facto Who is Who der Comedy der 1960er Jahre. Unter den Hauptcharakteren findet sich ein Meeresalgenverkäufer (Milton Berle) und seine spröde Frau (Dorothy Provine), seine herrische Schwiergermutter (Ethel Merman), und deren tölpelhafter Sohn (Dick Shawn). Weiters dabei sind ein Pärchen auf Hochzeitsreise (Sid Caesar and Edie Adams), zwei seltsames Paar-mäßige Freunde (Mickey Rooney and Buddy Hackett), ein unberechenbarer Möbeltransporteur (Jonathan Winters), ein Hochstapler (Phil Silvers) und ein überspannter Brite (Terry-Thomas). Das Rennen dieser guten amerikanischen Staatsbürgerbrut findet über Land, in der Luft und zu Wasser statt. Die gierigen Wettstreiter bemerken nicht, dass ihnen längst der mitgenommene Polizeihauptmann T.G. Culpepper (Spencer Tracy) aus Santa Rosita auf der Fährte ist, der seit zwanzig Jahren darauf wartet, im Smiler-Grogan-Fall endlich zuschlagen zu können. Und falls euch das alles immer noch nicht reicht, ist der Film außerdem noch gespickt mit Gastauftritten von beinahe allen berühmten Comedians dieser Zeit, darunter Jerry Lewis, Peter Falk, Carl Reiner, Jack Benny, Don Knotts und sogar die drei Stooges. +++ Der theoretische Überbau... ...für den Dreh der total verrückten Welt scheint ja wohl schlicht je größer desto besser gewesen zu sein -- also dann doch eher handwerklich als theoretisch. Die Liste der Darsteller ist vermutlich die längste, die je für eine Comedy gecastet wurde; die Anzahl der Stunts und Drehorte ist enorm. Die mit 161 Minuten kolossale Länge des Films ist tatsächlich nur die Kurzfassung der ursprünglichen Roadshow-Version von unglaublichen 192 Minuten Länge. Gibt es noch eine andere Comedy mit Kino-Pause? Doch all seine Überdimensionalität wäre umsonst, wenn der Film nicht komisch wäre. Zum Glück enttäuscht die total verrückte Welt auch in dieser Hinsicht nicht. Aber wie unterscheidet sich der Humor des Jahre 1963 vom heutigen Mainstream-Humor? Wie siehts mit den Stereotypen aus? Und schwebt über der flockigen Handlung nicht doch das Damoklesschwert der Kuba-Krise? Nun ja, am besten ihr schaut vorbei... +++ Lauschet und sehet! Kommt doch am Sonntag, 25. Yuri's Night im Schikaneder Am 12. April 1961 umrundete der Kosmonaut Juri Gagarin als erster Mensch die Erde. Anlässlich dieses Ereignisses wurde die Yuris Night ins Leben gerufen, bei der auf der ganzen Welt Parties gefeiert werden. Eine davon findet in Wien statt, bei der Sie die vielleicht einzige Gelegenheit haben, zwei exklusive Filme in Österreich zu sehen. Das Szene-Kino Schikaneder im vierten Wiener Gemeindebezirk ist am Abend des 12. April 2009 Schauplatz der Yuri's Night 2009. Weltraumfans haben die Gelegenheit zwei neue und sehr exklusive Filme zu sehen, mehr über die weitreichende Bedeutung von Gagarins Erstflug für die Gesellschaft, die Politik und das Weltraumrecht zu erfahren und mit uns eine rauschende Party zu feiern. Mit dem Film Die Wiederkehr des Mars hat der Filmemacher Sebastian Voltmer sein Studium an der Kunsthochschule Kassel in den Fächern Film und Typografie mit Auszeichnung bestanden. Die Yuri's Night wird mit der Uraufführung dieses Filmes eingeleitet. Da dieser Film in den nächsten zwei Jahren nur im Kino gezeigt werden darf, ist dies eine sehr exklusive Gelegenheit. Im Anschluss folgt eine 60minütige Show Juri Gagarin und der Beginn der bemannten Raumfahrt, in der Experten darüber berichten, wie mit dem Erstflug Gagarins die bemannte Raumfahrt begann, und welche umfangreichen Auswirkungen dieses Ereignis hatte - auf die Politik, das Weltraumrecht, aber auch die Gesellschaft; dazu auch ein Beitrag von SuperNova. The original works are based on text, but various other materials are now introduced. Mamoru Okuno: Born in Osaka, 1977. Living in Japan. BFA from City University of New York (2001). In 2003, a sound work procedure 22:05 was commissioned to be a permanent collection of Izumi City, Japan. In 2005, he toured in France doing solo performances, one at the Espace Pier Paolo Pasolini for example. In 2006, the sound installation in-visible-room was exhibited at The National Gallery of Armenia as a part of the first Japanese contemporary art show in Yelevan. The performance series otozure was taken places in 3 cities in Japan and 2 cities abroad. Recently he has been mainly working on the interaction design of the reacTable - a tangible modular synthesizer based on a multi-touch surface. He is author of the open source tangible interaction framework reacTIVision and the related TUIO protocol, which has been widely adopted for open source multi-touch applications. The vast majority of humanoid people in the Culture are born with greatly altered glands housed within their central nervous systems, who secrete - on command - mood- and sensory-appreciation-altering compounds into the person's bloodstream. Additionally many inhabitants have subtly altered reproductive organs - and control over the associated nerves - to enhance sexual pleasure. Ovulation is at will in the female, and a fetus up to a certain stage may be re-absorbed, aborted, or held at a static point in its development; again, as willed. Also, a viral change from one sex into the other, is possible. And there is a convention that each person should give birth to one child in their lives. Pressure for change within society would presumably build up until some form of sexual equality and hence numerical parity will be established. Does this set-up sound too futuristic? Too utopian? As bio-hacking, sexually enhanced bodies, genetic utopias and plethora of gender have long been the focus of literature, science fiction and, increasingly, pornography, this year will see us explore the possibilities that fictional and authentic bodies have to offer.
