Did you reboot after running utinstall?
Does your custom.conf file contain the necessary Sun Ray configuration

urg - this should only be present on SLES, not RHEL/CentOS systems, sorry.

Nevertheless if you're not getting AUDIODEV set something is going wrong
in the xinitrc.d area, or else utaudio itself. CentOS is supposed to be
identical to RHEL, is it possible that it's exec'ing rather than
sourcing those scripts? You might try instrumenting
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/0100.SUNWut to see if it's getting executed at
all - maybe try setting a simple environment variable and see if you see
its definition in your session.

Also, try running utaudio by hand - does it print out a device name?
Try setenv'ing AUDIODEV to that device name by hand, and then starting

Yes the host was rebooted several times
No I don't have the
BaseXsession=/etc/opt/SUNWut/gdm/Xsession.source_wrapper in

Two questions...
What does the BaseXsession=/etc/opt/SUNWut/gdm/Xsession.source_wrapper
in
my /etc/gdm/custom.conf file have to do with sound?
Also I can't get the on-board usb to work either.
I have been dealing with the Sun Ray software for about two month now
and I've
googled myself silly and I can't find anyone that has a fool proof
solution for
both issues even though Sun says the new SRSS 4.1 features are

I don't mean to be sarcastic but I' getting very frustrated.

2008-11-20 Thread Goodman, William
O.k. I don't feel so bad now I got the usb to work and it's great, it
worked every time.
I still couldn't get the audio to work but I was talking to one of my
colleges and
he told me that it won't work because it's a virtual machine. I really
don't believe that
because there's no sound card on the server it won't work. I think
that's bull because
there's no video card on the server but that work fine. Do you agree?
Another question(s)
What do you mean when you say instrumenting
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/0100.SUNWut and what
should I set the $AUDIODEV to?

I sent follow-up mail on this. For RHEL5/CentOS5, nothing. I got
confused because your question coincided with a question from somebody
on SLES10, where it *does* matter. The point is (and this highlights our
frustration with supporting multiple Linux platforms that can't seem to
do anything consistently) that SLES10 essentially broke the xinitrc.d
mechanism, because they exec rather than source the files in that
directory, which effectively means we can't export environment variables
(such as AUDIODEV) into the user session. Our workaround for SLES 10 was
to configure an Xsession wrapper into gdm that first sources our
scripts, and then sources the system Xsession file.

You say you're not seeing AUDIODEV in your environment. That's why you
have no sound. So either that means that those scripts weren't sourced
(although they are sourced on a RHEL5 system, and CentOS5 claims to be
completely compatible) or utaudio failed somehow. So please perform the
experiment I requested:

By hand, run /opt/SUNWut/bin/utaudio.
Then, setenv AUDIODEV output from utaudio
Then, try a sound app like xmms.

This will allow us to determine whether the problem is with the
xinitrc.d scripts or utaudio. Then we'll take it from there.

Also I can't get the on-board usb to work either.

Can you be more specific? What are you trying to do? What happens?
