[talk-ph] Help Improve Candaba data

2013-10-08 Thread maning sambale
Hi,

As you all know, we are currently in Candaba, Pampanga for our first
LGU training.
Other than the limited connectivity, everything is working out fine.
We've covered a few areas today and added many POIs. One appeal from
the Candaba LGU is for the OSM-PH community to help in improving the
map. I created a tasking manager job for this:

http://tasks.hotosm.org/job/323

Please take a task and edit whatever you can to improve the map. The
imagery is fairly recent (October 2012, negligible offset) and the
Candaba mappers think very little has changed since. Priority
features they want added are:

- roads and bridges - for routing during emergency
- waterways - to understand probable paths of floods
- location of settlements (landuse=residential) - for locating
population centers at risk
- landuse (mostly agriculture) – for understanding damages to the economy
- buildings – minor priority for now but good to have this data

We will also use the tasking manager tomorrow. Advance thanks you for helping.

cheers,
maning

Re: [talk-ph] Portable USB for OSM editing

2013-10-08 Thread maning sambale
Thanks for testing. We are currently using it for two days and it seems to
work fine. All participants are new to josm and obviously, we didnt
encounter this issue. Thanks for pointing this out.

We dont have an internet connection yesterday. We were able to upload only
today. Candaba lgu mappers wants the osm-ph commty to help improve the
data. please have a look and fix whatever issues.
thanks.

Re: [talk-ph] Portable USB for OSM editing

2013-10-08 Thread Jim Morgan

It seems you can set this on the command line when you launch it.

Java preference folder option
Alternatively, it is possible to set the preference folder at start up on the
console with:
-Djosm.home=
e.g.
java -Xmx1000m -Djosm.home=$HOME/.josm-latest -jar josm-latest.jar

The USB stick uses JOSM and therefore Java, not Flash.

Java is still reasonably safe to use on a PC, but you're strongly
recommended to disable the browser plugin as that is the main attack vector. So
you can still use JOSM/Java on your PC, with or without the USB stick.
