[Bug 162167] Re: mySQL password asks only once

2008-03-25 Thread Mathias Gug
Thanks for you debdiffs.

Your drops the debconf priority to medium, instead of high, resulting in
a default install that doesn't prompt for a password during
installation.

You've also tried to fix a non-existing issue in your last debdiff:
/etc/init.d/mysql stop does the right thing even if mysqld is not
running. Thus the comment raised in the debian-devel mail doesn't apply
to mysql-dfsg. Please check if the issue applies to the package before
fixing it.

Could you also not include all the translations in your debdiff ? These
are automatically generated by the clean target and should be removed
from the submitted debdiff to help the review. Look at the filterdiff
command to help in that regard.

Otherwise the debconf code looks good and works. However adding a new
string in the template means that we'll have to notify translators about
it.

the dpi is set high (mine is at 120). Also, the buttons are partially

[Bug 32415] Re: Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard Broken in Dapper/Edgy/Feisty

2008-03-25 Thread Zoltan
My logitech cordless elite bluetooth hub connects with USB.
When you get the first login prompt, just pull out the USB plug, wait a second
or two and plug it back in. Both your keyboard and mouse will then wake up.
Tadaaa!

I fully agree that this is the most pathetically tedious bug I have ever seen.
It probably also causes the most bad press for Linux as every bluetooth user
will get caught by it.
Surely the relevant developers can see from the amount of threads and postings
on this subject, that it is a critical bug?

Guys (that's the developers out there), if you want to rule the world so
you dont' have to keep looking out a window, clean up the visible bugs.

No one cares about the esoteric and deep down inside security bugs (ok,
until they get caught out) that the Linux brain-surgeons fix. It's about
visibility, not what is good and correct - Just ask our president elect:
Mr Zuma ;-)

2008-03-25 Thread Cruncher
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 194214 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194214

This bug might actually be _not_ a duplicate of #194214 after all. However,
over there they appear to have found a workaround patch, so can those of you
that still experience the bug update their xserver-xorg-core and report whether
this also fixes the problem described here?
I'm rather reluctant to test it myself, since a) the kernel upgrade fixed the
problem for me 100% and b) I am using xserver-xorg-core 1.3.0.0, which predates
version 1.4.1 that apparently introduced the bug #194214).
Please look here for deb packages containing the patch:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/194214/comments/67

Which xserver-xorg-core versions are you all using?

[Bug 122064] Re: [Wishlist] Removing software+dependencies currently much more difficult than installing them

2008-03-25 Thread Conrad Knauer
I can confirm (in Hardy, post beta) that the command line version works
beautifully; e.g. as per my example of the alien package, after doing a
fresh install from Synaptic:

---
$ sudo apt-get autoremove alien
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  debhelper intltool-debian po-debconf gettext libtimedate-perl dpkg-dev
  html2text patch
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  alien debhelper dpkg-dev gettext html2text intltool-debian libtimedate-perl
  patch po-debconf
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 9 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
After this operation, 12.4MB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]? y
(Reading database ... 147198 files and directories currently installed.)
Removing alien ...
Removing debhelper ...
Removing dpkg-dev ...
Removing po-debconf ...
Removing intltool-debian ...
Removing gettext ...
Removing html2text ...
Removing libtimedate-perl ...
Removing patch ...

(which is very neat; I didn't know about that :)

But unfortunately, I don't see a Synaptic option for this.

[Bug 204854] Re: gnome-terminal / vte doesn't follow gnome font rendering settings

2008-03-25 Thread Michael Marner
Yes, there is something wrong with the font rendering in Gnome terminal in the
latest Hardy.
Essentially, it ignores the system settings for subpixel rendering.

See the attached screenshot.

Character map is showing Monospace, 10 pt. The Font preferences show
that the system's monospace font is Monospace, 10pt. Terminal is set to
use the system font.

However, while character map and Appearance shows nice crisp monospace
text, Gnome Terminal has it's own antialiasing. It is not displaying
text the way the rest of the system does.

[Bug 206369] [NEW] IDE drive not being detected after upgrade to Hardy

2008-03-25 Thread Rob
Public bug reported:

My IDE drive (/dev/hda) is not being detected after I updated to hardy
beta from gutsy. I have gone back and run gutsy live to make sure
something else didn't happen during upgrade and I am still able to mount
it in Gutsy. The drive is not listed by fdisk -l. There is on partition
(/dev/hda1 which is NTFS) on the drive. My guess is that it is a kernel
module that is being loaded in gutsy and not hardy but i'm not sure. I
have a attached a diff of the modules listed by lsmod from the gutsy

[Bug 206365] Re: brother-lpr-drivers-extra printing in A4-format not possible

2008-03-25 Thread Saïvann Carignan
Of course, I get notification for all bugs for my brother packages :) .

The extra package contains /usr/Brother/inf/brMFC5440CNrc and
/usr/Brother/inf/brMFC5440CNfunc files that have +w permissions and that
contains configuration values for your printer. I suspect that the
problem is here because these files contains letter as the paper type
and these values does not seem to change even when the parameter is
changed through cupsys. But first of all, to make sure that this problem
is not specific to our packages, can you uninstall our package, install
the one from Brother and test if this bug also happens with the official
driver packages?

ppa). Can you please test and see if this is still an issue?

If it does still occur, please use gdb to get a full backtrace (make sure to

[Bug 206375] [NEW] Wallpapers lack branding

2008-03-25 Thread Sameer Verma
Public bug reported:

All four wallpapers that come with Hardy Heron (as seen in the Beta
release) do not have any Ubuntu branding. Wallpapers from the Warty
days had Ubuntu on the lower right corner. This is very important. One
of the most influential variables on the adoption of any new technology
(and there is plenty of research to back this) is the observability or
branding of that innovation. If the wallpapers have this branding, it
will go a long way at getting people to see what that cool OS is.
Think about visibility when someone plugs into a projector and displays
the branded wallpaper for a few seconds. That's all it takes for people
to take notice!

[Bug 203494] Re: gnome-power-manager does not restore brightness after idle dim (2.22.0-0ubuntu1)

2008-03-25 Thread Kirby
My IBM T42 also dims when AC power is unplugged and then dims again when
AC power is restored. When it hits the minimum setting, plugging in then
brings brightness up one level. It's like it doesn't know the current
setting, because if I max the brightness before plugging in it goes to
the same, lower value as before (one up from zero).

Re: [Bug 129910] Re: Blank ttys when using vesafb (vga=xxx)

2008-03-25 Thread fishor
If you will help, really _can_ do it. No programming experience needed.

Best choice to begin is vanilla kernel, but you can do the same with
ubuntu kernel too..

1. download latest kernel and chack if bug still there.

sudo apt-get install git-core

git clone
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git

for vanilla kernel

or

git clone git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-hardy.git

for ubuntu hardy.

2. install packages to build kernel
sudo apt-get build-dep linux
sudo apt-get install libncurses5-dev libncursesw5-dev

3. go to kernel, configure, compile and install it.
( you do not need to make kernel with initrd )

cd linux-2.6
make menuconfig ( to configure kernel )
make -j2 all sudo make isnatll sudo make modules_install

( -j2 option for dual core users )

4. edit grub to boot latest kernel

sudo vi ( or ) nano /boot/grub/menu.lst

---
and change this parts:
timeout 5
#hiddenmenu

title Linux
root(hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz root=/dev/sda2 acpi_sleep=s3_bios,s3_mode
libata.noacpi=1 ro
--

normally you will have other kernel parameters

5. (MOST important part) If bug still exist and this is regression to
some kernel version:

man git-bisect

git bisect start( will make extra branch for testing )
git bisect bad ( current version is bad )
git bisect good v2.6.23( version 2.6.23 is bad )

make menuconfig
make -j2 all sudo make isnatll sudo make modules_install

reboot test kernel if it's good, go to you git repository:

cd linux-2.6
git bisect goodmake -j2 all sudo make isnatll sudo make
modules_install
#if it's bad
git bisect bad

--

This testing will need some time bud you will find exact patch braced
your system. And believe me, such bug report will really accelerate bug
fixing and make you as part of solution and not part of noise.

Some time after I reported this bug, the problem disappeared (and I
forgot about the bugreport). I didn't change anything on my system,
except for installing updates. So I have no idea what caused the problem
or what may have fixed it.

[Bug 205372] Re: LCD does not brighten after idle dimming

2008-03-25 Thread Vojtěch Látal
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 199522 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199522

I've marked this bug as duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/199522 .
It seems to me that there is common problem: When idle, brightness decreases
(let's say to specified level). But when there is activity (user moves mouse or
use keyboard), the screen won't brighten back again.

Feel free to remove duplicate mark if the problem isn't primarily the
one i've described.

description of the fix it makes sense; this is definitely the same

[Bug 206384] [NEW] hostname is incorrect on LAN

2008-03-25 Thread Darryl Grennan
Public bug reported:

When I was looking around in my router configuration I noticed that my
Ubuntu Hardy (beta) system was showing up with the hostname of *
instead of the hostname that usually would appear (that being ubuntu).

I confirmed by running in the terminal hostname which returned ubuntu.
Previous versions of Ubuntu did not have this issue.

My /etc/hosts file is as follows:

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.1.1 ubuntu

# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback

[Bug 206383] [NEW] Bad default download directory

2008-03-25 Thread Saïvann Carignan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: azureus

Actual azureus package in ubuntu use a default download directory which
is inside a hidden folder :

~/.azureus/Documents/Azureus Downloads

If the user does not look with attention during the configuration
wizard, he might have some problems finding his downloaded files with
azureus since these files get in a hidden folder by default.

This problem can probably be fixed at lines 194-197 of
org/gudy/azureus2/core3/config/impl/ConfigurationDefaults.java

===
//default data location options

def.put(Use default data dir, FALSE);

String docPath =  SystemProperties.getDocPath();

File f = new File(docPath, Azureus Downloads);

def.put(Default save path, f.getAbsolutePath());
===

Can getAbsolutePath or any other part of this code be adjusted with a
patch in debian/patches to fix this problem?

working just as they should if the files were displayed. This is just as

[Bug 197493] Re: Add resume support to irrecord

2008-03-25 Thread Murray Cumming
we've been leaving it the responsibility of the submitter to send them
upstream.

I don't think that's a good policy. It isn't happening. It's in your
interests to reduce the number of patches that you have to apply.

Matthias, can you make sure this happens?
This patch was submitted upstream first and was only submitted here because of
the delay in having it reviewed upstream.
