[Bug 838130] Re: Kernel 3.0 breaks DVB-T (ISDB-Tb) in DiBcom 8000

2011-10-30 Thread YAFU
Ok, I expected a quick solution to this problem.
Meanwhile, people with this problem can install new versions of the drivers
with these instructions:
http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/How_to_Obtain,_Build_and_Install_V4L-DVB_Device_Drivers

That is, install git and the basic build dependencies, then:

git clone git://linuxtv.org/media_build.git
cd media_build
./build
sudo make install

[Bug 883947] [NEW] folder renaming selects only the part before the last dot

2011-10-30 Thread Felix Haller
Public bug reported:

Hi,

i'm using Nautilus on Ubuntu Oneiric.

When renaming a folder the renaming feature behaves exactly like the renaming
feature for files. It selects all letters before the last dot and only when you
press the F2 button once again, the complete foldername will be selected.

I think this behavior isn't correct for folder-renaming because there
are no folder-extensions like the file-extensions that have to be
minded. Therefore it would be better, to select the whole foldername.

Thanks in advance

Felix

[Bug 883916] Re: Empathy chat window has broken styles

2011-10-30 Thread saepia
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 838697 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/838697

I've found a workaround that maybe can lead you to the bug source. I've
opened empathy preferences window, the tab with theme selector.

When I've opened it, the dropdown with theme name was set to Ubuntu,
but the sample in the window below was broken. I've just switched from
the Ubuntu theme to another one, then switched back to Ubuntu and
everything now works ok.

Seems that it could be related to default settings that ship with
empathy package that point to incorrect style?

[Bug 881009] Re: Unable to open Synaptic package manager / Ubuntu software center

2011-10-30 Thread Alessandro Menti
Hi,
it seems that you have tried to add a custom Ubuntu repository (using, for
example, the Repositories preference window or apt-add-repository from the
command line), but you have forgotten to strip the [url] and [/url] tags
from the address. If so, you will need to edit
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/sources.list as root and remove the tags. Please check
and then run sudo apt-get update from a terminal to update the package
information.

Please tell us here if the error still persists or if it does not go
away (in the latter case, please also attach all the files in the
/etc/apt/sources.list.d directory, as well as /etc/apt/sources.list, to
this bug report, as attachments).

Furthermore, could you please tell us what steps you did to add the
custom repository?

Thanks.

Since it is a personalization setting by the user, it is personal to the

other people and should not be accessible from outside his or her

[Bug 775538] Re: Existing swap ignored, one more created when install aside other systems

2011-10-30 Thread Dave Gilbert
Low as suggested by Elgaton on #u-bugs; seems reasonable because you can
work around it and it's not a big problem.

I do wonder if the problem here is related to encrypted swap with
encrypted home, I think the logs are showing you have encrypted home,
and I wonder if the original swap isn't encrypted or something similar.

[Bug 875030] Re: Unable to open stream [Unable to create io-slave]

2011-10-30 Thread SeanTater
I'm not exactly sure where to submit the code (or even if it's really just a
kludge) but adding imagedisplay-update(); in updateimagedisplay() of
dvbcut.cpp on line 1586 seems to fix the problem. I suspect that setPixmap
might not imply update() in QT4.
I included a patch for git in case that helps.

2011-10-30 Thread dummy9010
Hello Tim,

thank you for your help.

My response to your questions:

1. Printout fine with Okular and Evince and Samsung ML-1610, 2.0.0

2. Printout not fine with Evince and 'Samsung Foomatic'

3. Printout fine with Evince.
Okular: printer queue symbol pops up in the right upper corner, then
disappeared after aprox. 3 sec, no printout at all.

[Bug 882255] Re: No root access after setting password to 'None'

2011-10-30 Thread Alessandro Menti
Some quick notes:
-the check for empty passwords and the alteration of the sudoers file, if
*really* required since it's a security risk, should be done in the installer
and in the passwd program;
-otherwise, a simple way to prevent null passwords to be used (the most
straightforward way) is to alter the PAM configuration files (see
http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/linux-or-unix-disable-null-passwords.html).

[Bug 883942] [NEW] With two panels can't click on breadcrumb navigation buttons on inactive panel

2011-10-30 Thread Ricardo Graça
Public bug reported:

When opening a second panel in Nautilus it's not possible to click on
the breadcrumb navigation buttons on the inactive panel. This means that
if I want to navigate to another location in the scondary panel I have
to click somewhere on the navigation area of the inactive panel first
and only then can I click on the breadcrumb buttons.

Steps to repdroduce:
1) Open a second panel (F3)
2) Click on a breadcrumb navigation button on the newly opened (and inactive)
panel

Expected results:
- The contents of the inactive panel's navigation area change to reflect the
new location and the clicked panel becomes active

Actual results:
- The breadcrumb buttons don't respond to clicks and thus the panel continues
to be inactive and its location remains the same

Thank you for your suggestion. However, the changes you are requesting
aren't really a bug and require more discussion, which should be done on
an appropriate mailing list or forum.

[Bug 883752] Re: Software Centre is the most horrible, bloated and slow application I have ever used.

2011-10-30 Thread Alessandro Menti
Could you please try to install an application using the terminal
(choose an application you wish and install it with the command sudo
apt-get install appname where appname is the name of the package
containing the application), just to make sure that the Software Center
itself is the main cause of the problem (and not just an
unresponsiveness caused by the Debian package infrastructure that
handles installation)?

Please tell me if you notice any differences in time and, if possible,
list here the complete configuration of your system (CPU, amount of RAM,
swap size...).

If there is no noticeable difference in time, you may want to try
installing the apt-xapian-index package - basically, it replaces the
text file handling mechanism used by dpkg to fetch and query package
information with a more efficient database one. Be wary that the program
may consume resources when it's translating the traditional package
lists to the database format; searches in the Software Center should be
faster, though.

[Bug 853056] Re: Cannot select ICC profile

2011-10-30 Thread Neil Woolford
Laryllan's dispwin workaround in post #5 worked for me too.

Argyll was already installed, as I would have expected. Whether this is
the case on a new install rather than an upgrade I wouldn't know.

The problem isn't broken colour management per se, rather a problem with
automatic recognition of hardware by the gnome-colour-manager or its new
front end wrapper.

I'd reckon some device recognition data or routines have been omitted or
somehow disabled in the current oneiric system.

[Bug 819531] Re: Computer crash at start-up

2011-10-30 Thread stephisa41
Hi,

I tested kernel 3.1.0-999 from 24/10/2011. It seems that the problem
does not exist anymore with this version. I could restart my computer
several time without any crash at startup. However, 2 issues remain :
startup is very long long compared to 10.10 (~ 2min after grub
selection) and Nvidia drivers have not been installed (driver not in
use despite installed). For the driver issue, it comes maybe from the
fact that the kernel is not fully optimized. To be confirmed with the
released version.

[Bug 772792] Re: Is slow to work with Unity when it has too many icons(bring back upper accordion of launcher)

2011-10-30 Thread Conscious User
@manny, why an option?

So far, judging from the complete lack of arguments in favor of the
current implementation in this report, I'd say that the best course of
actions is bringing back the old behavior and that's it.

I honestly see no advantage in the current implementation, regardless if
the user is casual or experienced.

How is it possible, that is it not still repaired ?
Does it appear on all Oneiric Ocelot installations ?! Or just by someone ?

[Bug 883961] [NEW] Private folder is not automatically mounted on login (oneiric)

2011-10-30 Thread Vreixo Formoso
Public bug reported:

In up-to-date ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric), when login after booting, the Private
folder (created with ecryptfs-setup-private) is not automatically mounted. If I
exit the session and login again, it is automatically mounted. However, when I
restart the system, it does not work again.
Is there any way to enable logging on pam_ecryptfs so I can figure out what is
going on?
Note that manually mounting the folder (ecryptfs-mount-private) does always
work.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The dialog 'looking for debug symbols' briefly displays, but there is no sign
that anything actually changes.
I have anyway manually added many debug packages, but the bug asssistant says a

[Bug 872582] Re: Snort 2.8.5.2 no longer receives rule updates

2011-10-30 Thread mikelococo
Thanks for responding to this bug. I would classify this as medium
instead of wishlist, though. The inability to run current rules severely
impacts this non-core application, the sole function of Snort is to
check traffic against an up-to-date list of signatures that correspond
to malicious traffic and that functionality is crippled by the inability
of this version to operate with current sigs.

There is also a security impact to this bug because Snort is an
application that users expect to provide security protection, similar to
anti-virus. As a network-based security application, it may be used to
provide protection to many systems at once (I operate Snort sensors that
protect tens of thousands of client-systems by inspecting traffic at the
border of my network). Like anti-virus sigs that are a year or more old,
the sigs that this version of Snort is capable of running provide much
less protection than current versions and probably less protection than
users believe they are getting.

[Bug 883459] Re: KMail duplicates emails

2011-10-30 Thread Alessandro Menti
OK - I think that this other bug report
(https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283682 - KMail duplicates
filtered messages) matches both the problem and the version of KMail you
are using. (It may be a bit difficult to reproduce the bug since it
partially happens at random - I'm referring to the deletion part).

If you find that the bug report matches your problem too (I'm not 100%
sure), could you please leave a comment in the KDE bugtracker (providing
a link to this bug report); otherwise, could you please open a new bug
report at the KDE bugtracker (https://bugs.kde.org/), filing it
against the product kmail2 and the version 4.7? This way, the KMail
developers will be notified of the bug and will fix it.

In any case, after you have completed the process, please click on the
link Also affects project at the top of this bug report and write the
URL of the bug in the KDE bugtracker there. This way, we can notice when
the bug has been fixed by the KMail developers and release a new version
of KMail in Ubuntu accordingly.

Thanks again for all the information!

[Bug 875831] Re: No backlight when resuming from screensaver

2011-10-30 Thread MNM
I created a script like: fixbacklight.sh which had the command to set backlight
to a certain amount using xbacklight.
Then I created a custom keyboard shortcut which ran this script. I am sure if
you dig a little bit you can find some file which gets run each time you login.

I just login and press the key combination I have assigned to the script
to fix the backlight.

[Bug 810093] Re: The new (2.6.39+) samsung_laptop kernel module causes serious backlight flickering - makes the desktop unusable

2011-10-30 Thread Tauno Tammemäe
I have Samsung NP-R530 laptop computer, did a clean install of Ubuntu Oneiric
Ocelot a.k.a Ubuntu 11.10 and had the same issue until I added
acpi_backlight=vendor to the kernel parameters. After doing that i ran the
command sudo update-grub and rebooted my machine. Everything seems to be
working normally now, no flickering and i can change backlight brightness with
FN + arrow keys (function keys to change backlight brightness) while running
my computer on battery.
1) Type sudo nano /etc/default/grub (replace nano with your favourite text
editor, if needed, e.g gedit)
2) Add acpi_backlight=vendor to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT parameters, so
that...
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash
...or something similar becomes...
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor
3) Close nano (CTRL+X) and save changes (Y) or save changes and close if using
another kind of editor.
4) Type sudo update-grub to terminal
5) Type sudo reboot , after that your problem should be gone.
Glad to share my experience and possibly help some other Ubuntu users.

[Bug 879018] Re: ffserver cannot bind listening port

2011-10-30 Thread Alex Cohen
Found a solution, it needs AF_INET forced, assuming something with there
no longer being a default in new libraries:

in ffserver.c from line #605:

CHANGED:

if (my_http_addr.sin_port) {
server_fd = socket_open_listen(my_http_addr);
if (server_fd  0)
return -1;
}

TO

if (my_http_addr.sin_port) {
my_http_addr.sin_family = AF_INET;
server_fd = socket_open_listen(my_http_addr);
if (server_fd  0)
return -1;
