[Bug 787475] Re: Rhythmbox [0.12.8] [0.12.5] Not Fetching Album Information From MusicBrainz

2012-02-05 Thread Ralph Hyre
Launcpad generally needs some attention- I was getting segmentation
faults until I reinstalled, though it didn't improve MusicBrainz
lookups.

I understand why more a more flexible lookup system like MusicBrainz is
needed, but not at the expense of perceived stability. A more detailed
error message, with options to retry the lookup if a 404 error is
returned, should be provided

[Bug 927225] [NEW] Yukon Optima 88E8059 fails to come up as a network interface when system is powered on without AC

2012-02-05 Thread Dave Wickham
Public bug reported:

I'm sure I've seen a bug report regarding this before, but I've searched
and have been unable to find it, and it has occurred in both Oneiric and
now Precise.

On my laptop, an HP ProBook 6555b, using a Yukon Optima 88E8059, if I do
not have the charger plugged in when I power the machine on, I am unable
to use the wired network port; I have to shut down the machine and plug
AC in before powering it up again.

Are you running this in a standard Python interpreter?

As said in many places in the Mayavi documentation (e.g. the big red
warning on http://github.enthought.com/mayavi/mayavi/mlab.html ), for the
interactivity to work, you _need_ to run it IPython, with the 'wthread'
option enabled. It cannot work in a standard Python interpreter.

[Bug 926673] Re: Oneric 11.10 will not boot properly

2012-02-05 Thread Dave Gilbert
It did not hang got into recovery console. I ran the filesystem check.
Rebooted, same problem.

Hmm OK, well looking at the GRUB info you posted before you have

For the normal boot:
 linux /boot/vmlinuz-3.0.0-15-generic
root=UUID=7bdac5f7-9566-4964-b8b8-547ce063de54 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7
 initrd /boot/initrd.img-3.0.0-15-generic

and for recovery mode:
 linux /boot/vmlinuz-3.0.0-15-generic
root=UUID=7bdac5f7-9566-4964-b8b8-547ce063de54 ro recovery nomodeset

video setup/modeset wouldn't be an unusual cause of black screens/hung boots,
so try booting to the grub menu,
then edit the normal boot line and remove the quiet splash and vt.handoff=7 and
add in the nomodesetand see if it works.

[Bug 927225] Re: Yukon Optima 88E8059 fails to come up as a network interface when system is powered on without AC

2012-02-05 Thread Brad Figg
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel
than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test
again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still
exists or not.

You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the
following commands in a terminal window:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to
Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from
Incomplete to Fix Released.

If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add
a tag named: bot-stop-nagging.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

[Bug 903831]

2012-02-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
A Ubuntu kernel build with this patch was prepared:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~sarvatt/lp903831/

The original reporter tested this, but found it still panics:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/903831/+attachment/2685929/+files/21012012922.jpg

His comment: Looks like the freezing with just the mouse cursor occurs
about 1/3 of boots, in 2/3 it manages to switch back to the logging
terminal with the panic.

[Bug 903831]

2012-02-05 Thread Daniel-ffwll
I've read the downstream bug report and it looks like the current issue
is a completely different one. No sightings of using Xv, so my patch
won't have any effect.

Now trying to kill init is rather serious business. Bryce, can you
triage this in launchpad and check whether it's indeed an issue with the
intel driver or maybe some configuration artifact? If so, please file a
new separate bug report, this seriously shouldn't happen ... Wiring up
netconsole might help, I suspect there's more stuff before the panic
that's captured on the screenshot.

[Bug 927236] [NEW] GTK is configured to show menu icons

2012-02-05 Thread Dylan McCall
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
 - Use unity-greeter as a login screen (NOT in test mode)
 - Right click (or press the Menu key) in a password field
 - Notice the icons in the context menu

Gtk is showing all menu icons! This is something that is usually turned
off: there is a key in gsettings, menus-have-icons under
org.gnome.desktop.interface. It defaults to off, so perhaps something is
being strange here.

[Bug 926286] Re: GeoGebra version available in the repos isn't up to date

2012-02-05 Thread Roberto González Correa
Dear Giovanni: well, that really are sad news. I suppose that we must
wait until 12.10.

But, let me point out that I have installed GeoGebra 4 from the
repository provided by software.opensuse.org (link available in my first
post). The only obstacle I found (at least for now) is that Ubuntu
Update Manager doesn't let me update GeoGebra because 'the update may
require installing packages from non authenticated sources'. Update
Manager reports that the issue is related to geogebra geogebra-mime-data
(Mime database for GeoGebra files). I wave looked at the Update
Manager's configuration options, but I can't find the way to enable the
process. What am I supposed to do?

I think that installing GeoGebra from this repo can be a provisory
solution, so it would be great to know how to enable the update from the
Update Manager. Please, tell me what to do.

Finally, a single question: is the problem that you are working on
related to Java?

Thank you for your reply, and good luck with your work in this issue!

[Bug 590140] Re: QtMultimedia module missing from python-qt4

2012-02-05 Thread Michał Dutkiewicz
This is because Qt moved/renamed the library to QtMultimediaKit and
threw it in with the QtMobility libraries. :/

No, they didn't.
This is done for 5.x, not 4.x, what was added is still there.
So this is valid bug, Ubuntu should include this module old way, as that one in
Mobility package is something different, linking is very different etc.
It just breaks things and is inconsistent with other distributions.
Because of that I'm forced to use Phonon as I can't use unstable Mobility which
has very limited adoption.

2012-02-05 Thread Chauncellor
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test
it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running
apport-collect bug # and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

[Bug 927243] [NEW] Search bar disappears when you stick the window to the side of the screen

2012-02-05 Thread Dylan Weremeichik
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:
1. take your window, drag it to one side of the screen, or the other, so that
it sticks/pins to the side of your screen.

You will now notice that the search bar is missing, it is my thoughts
that this is happening because when you pin the window to the side of
the screen it makes it smaller than it is supposed to go. The best fix
might be to make it so the search bar can expand and shrink with the
window, perhaps.

** Description changed:

+ In dconf-editor when selecting
+ org.gnome.desktop.interface
+ cursor-theme
+ the description states 'adwaita' as default.
+ With unity we don't have adwaita installed.
+
+ ## skip here - solved.
Set custom values for x-cursor with:
  sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme
-
- Open dconf-editor
- org.gnome.desktop.interface
- In Precise it doesn't reflect the custom value.
+ In Precise it doesn't reflect the custom value.
  Currently selected 'white-glass', dconf-editor still says 'dmz-white'.
(screenshot)
In Oneiric it does reflect custom value. (screenshot)

- In addition both releases say 'adwaita' is default, which has nothing to
- do with Unity.

[Bug 927225] Re: Yukon Optima 88E8059 fails to come up as a network interface when system is powered on without AC or network cable

2012-02-05 Thread Dave Wickham
Verified with the latest kernel, and also found that as long as I have
at least one of the AC or network cable plugged in on boot I can use the
port, so amended the title and description.

** Summary changed:

- Yukon Optima 88E8059 fails to come up as a network interface when system is
powered on without AC
+ Yukon Optima 88E8059 fails to come up as a network interface when system is
powered on without AC or network cable

** Description changed:

I'm sure I've seen a bug report regarding this before, but I've searched
and have been unable to find it, and it has occurred in both Oneiric and
  now Precise.

On my laptop, an HP ProBook 6555b, using a Yukon Optima 88E8059, if I do
- not have the charger plugged in when I power the machine on, I am unable
- to use the wired network port; I have to shut down the machine and plug
- AC in before powering it up again.
+ not have the charger or a network cable plugged in when I power the
+ machine on, I am unable to use the wired network port; I have to shut
+ down the machine and plug AC or a network cable in before powering it up
+ again.

I tried that, now its taking like 7-10 times before I can get in, and
when I do my video is all messed up. Here is the boot info. Yann from
boot-repair told be that this was not an issue with grub but rather
something to do with partitions that required further assistance.

[Bug 891613] Re: Skype Icon shows twice while seaching for it at software-center

2012-02-05 Thread Dylan Weremeichik
i can reproduce it, here's a screenshot

Steps to reproduce:
1. open software center
2. search skype minus the quotes

That will result in (at least for me) seeing two of the Skype among other apps
as well.
If you want just thedouble skype (again, at least for me) type skype
internet telephony into the search bar
and you should see something exactly like my attachment

[Bug 870097] Re: Using sudo with virtualenvwrapper causes $HOME/.virtualenvs/hook.log to have have wrong acces rights

2012-02-05 Thread Julian Taylor
this is how sudo works on ubunt, you run as root but retain the users HOME
variable. This can configured in sudo with env_reset, see the manpage.
I don't think there is anything virtualenvwrapper can do about that.

[Bug 927248] Re: Unity display problems

2012-02-05 Thread Mark Bidewell
To add to this, I saw this issue in VMWare Fusion. Most windows were
not drawing properly. It seemed to me that Ubuntu was attempting to
load Unity 3D on non-accelerated HW. Explicitly choosing Ubuntu 2D at
login fixed the issue.
