[Bug 990740] Re: upgrading from lucid to precise fails

2012-09-06 Thread Cafuego
Hitting the same problem on my desktop machine. I disabled all my non-
Ubuntu repos (but did not uninstall their packages).

The workaround from #3 seemed to do the trick in that the install of
newer packages is progressing. Not sure yet if I end up with a bootable
and usable system at the end of this :-P

[Bug 885280] Re: internal compiler error: in add_phi_arg, at tree-phinodes.c:391 [maverick]

2011-11-17 Thread Cafuego
I actually ported the patch to gcc for Lucid and Maverick, then added a
PPA containing these compilers (ppa://cafuego/lucid-gcc) and used them
to successfully build Inkscape on Lucid and Maverick i386.

[Bug 885280] Re: internal compiler error: in add_phi_arg, at tree-phinodes.c:391 [maverick]

2011-11-17 Thread Cafuego
The bundled Inkscape versions build fine on these respective Ubuntu
versions, this compiler problem was only introduced earlier this year,
so is only triggered when building a much newer Inkscape.

I agree that pushing new a GCC to Lucid and Maverick is probably not
needed or wanted :-)

This issue also affects Lucid users (on i3886 only, amd64 builds fine)
who try to build Inkscape with a backported cairo and pximan.

[Bug 229879] Re: USB DVB card floods the console with recv bulk message failed -ETIMEOUT

2010-12-25 Thread Cafuego
Same issue here on 10.04. After booting the kernel log is spammed with:

[ 544.968189] dvb-usb: bulk message failed: -110 (4/0)
[ 544.968198] cxusb: i2c read failed

... and the system load sits on 1.00 consistently (Single core single
CPU system) despite nothing showing in top and the cpu being listed as
99.3% idle. vmstat doesn't show any oddly high interrupt rates and there
system is not swapping.

It did NOT occur on 9.04, so it seems to be it might be some sort of
regression. I have yet to reboot with the 9.04 kernel to see if that
makes any difference, though. I also have two cards, a DViCO Fusion HDTV
Dual Digital 4 and a LeadTek DTV2000H.

Adding the following line to a file in /etc/modprobe.d did not affect the issue:
options dvb-core dvb_powerdown_on_sleep=0

[Bug 351275] [NEW] AppArmor rules cause tmp table problem

Public bug reported:

I installed Jaunty (mythbuntu) yesterday and tweaked my mysql

I installed Jaunty (mythbuntu) yesterday and tweaked my mysql
configuration to have the server use InnoDB. When I then ran
mysql_convert_table_format on a database, apparmor started logging
permission issues on temporary tables.

The perms on all mysql directories are fine and when I turned apparmor
off MySQL stopped complaining.

[Bug 255163] [NEW] 2.6.24-19-generic - sysload becomes increasingly wildly inaccurate

2008-08-05 Thread Cafuego
Public bug reported:

After about 24 hours of uptime, the sysload on my x86_64 system starts
going up, according to /proc/loadavg and utilities that use this file
(eg: top, uptime).

The system is currently idle, though and for instance the Gnome System
Monitor does *not* display high load.

Current stats are:
  09:42:03 up 1 day, 16:38, 3 users, load average: 23.06, 22.92, 21.60

After a few days or so this becomes:
  load average: 232.15, 228.76, 222.75

After 8 days (yesterday) this became 800+.

The machine remains responsive, so I suspect the load calculation is
wrong, and somehow uptime-based when it shouldn't be.

I cannot reproduce this problem on the 2.6.24-19-xen kernel.

[Bug 238734] [NEW] /usr/bin/firefox managed by alternatives

2008-06-09 Thread Cafuego
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I was wondering if it would be possible to have the /usr/bin/firefox
symlink be managed by `alternatives'.

I mainly use FF2, as a bunch of web development add-ons have not been
(fully) ported to FF3 and have been managing the `firefox' symlink by
hand thusfar. However, each time a FF3 update is installed, the symlink
is overwritten. When I then start `firefox' my FF2 profile is trashed by
FF3 and I need to clean it out.

I've now added a divert, which sort of fixes the issue, but I'm sure I'm
not the only one who prefers to run FF2 and starts it via the CLI, so a
more elegant way of managing this symlink might be nice.

[Bug 198163] [NEW] selinux.config script seems to require grub

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: selinux

When installing on a Xen VM I was told:

Preconfiguring packages ...

selinux failed to preconfigure, with exit status 1

The VM does not use a bootloader, and thus GRUB is not installed. It
looks like the selinux.config script should ask me if it should
configure grub, but it has not done this and defaults to managing the
config.

I worked around by creating an empty /boot/grub/menu.lst file.

[Bug 172990] session handler causes segfault

2007-11-29 Thread Cafuego
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libapache2-mod-php5

After installing the 5.2.1-0ubuntu1.5 security updates for feisty, the
PHP session handler seems to be causing segfaults when accessing
phpmyadmin.

apache2 is logging lots of:

[Fri Nov 30 15:54:13 2007] [notice] child pid 3198 exit signal Segmentation
fault (11)
[Fri Nov 30 15:54:13 2007] [notice] child pid 3199 exit signal Segmentation

fault (11)
[Fri Nov 30 16:03:57 2007] [notice] child pid 3377 exit signal Segmentation
fault (11)

I've run strace on php5-cli (as www-data user) and the output of that
seems to indicate the segfault occurs after PHP opens a file in the
sessions directory, /var/lib/php5. Trace is attached.

The permissions on that directory are:
drwx-wx-wt 2 root root 20480 2007-11-30 16:09 /var/lib/php5/

Downgrading to libapache2-mod-php5 5.2.1-0ubuntu1.4 makes the segfault
not occur.

[Bug 103696] System fails to boot with 2.6.20-14

2007-04-06 Thread Cafuego
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20

My system fails to boot when using the new 2.6.20-14-generic-amd64
kernel.

The 2.6.20-13-generic-amd64 kernel works fine, but with the -14 kernel
the system simply stops after detecting disks and usb devices. No errors
or anything unusual are logged. The system stops at the point where
normally the root filesystem would be mounted. The keyboard is
responsive at this point, but boot never progresses.

I notice the -14 kernel uses the new libata drivers, whereas the -13
kernel did not. fstab and menu.lst are set up to use UUIDs, but just in
case I tried with root=/dev/sda2 (previous /dev/hda2) as well. Same
result.

The system is an AMD64 3000+ with an nforce 3 mainboard. Only the on-
board controllers are used. One sata disk is attached, there are three
pata disks and there is an external USB2 disk. All these are detected
(as sda through sde) during boot.

[Bug 103696] Re: System fails to boot with 2.6.20-14

2007-04-06 Thread Cafuego
Brian:

I did boot without `quiet splash'. but nothing out of the ordinary shows
up. The devices are detected as they should with partitions present. No
mention of timeouts or limited dma speeds like bug #103679. I'd attach
a boot log trace, but I can't find my nullmodem cable anywhere :-P

Aurelien:

I don't see any messages like the ones described in #103679 - the
devices are detected properly. I don't use lvm or md on this machine, so
I don't know if #103608 is relevant. I never get dumped to a busybox
shell, bootup just halts.

[Bug 88604] passwords 8 characters cannot authenticate

2007-02-28 Thread Cafuego
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pptpd

When using pptpd with a Windows XP client, I've found users who have a
password length of greater than 8 characters in /etc/ppp/chap-secrets
are unable to authenticate successfully.

When the password is truncated in the chap-secrets file and the user
enters the new 8 character password, authentications succeeds.

I have not as yet attempted to reproduce this problem with Linux or
MacOS X clients.

If this is a feature, not a bug, it should perhaps be documented in the
sample chap-secrets file;-)

[Bug 88604] Re: passwords 8 characters cannot authenticate

Reassigned to ppp, as that actually does the authentication.

[Bug 56959] Re: Sound setupo always reports error

2006-08-23 Thread Cafuego
Found another minor one :-)

Line 3 of /usr/sbin/ltsp-update-sshkeys:

clients=$(find /opt/ltsp -mindepth 1 -maxdepth 1 -type d -printf '%f\n')

If /opt/ltsp is a symlink, this fails to find anything. Adding a slash
solves the issue:

clients=$(find /opt/ltsp/ -mindepth 1 -maxdepth 1 -type d -printf
'%f\n')

[Bug 56959] Sound setupo always reports error

2006-08-20 Thread Cafuego
Public bug reported:

The /etc/init.d/ltsp-client script contains a logic error, which causes
a sound error to always be reported. The test -f /dev/dsp always fails,
as /dev/dsp is never a regular file. Suggest applying the following
patch, which checks if /dev/dsp is a special character device and
writeable.

[Bug 56959] Re: Sound setupo always reports error

2006-08-20 Thread Cafuego
No worries.

Incidentally, I need to manually load `snd-pcm-oss' in the chroot, so
that /dev/dsp exists. udev doesn't do it automagically.

I don't know if adding it to /etc/modules would be an option?

This patch applies cleanly to f-spot 0.1.11 and fixes the problem. Note,
I found this patch online and did not write it myself.
