[Bug 573318] Re: mysql server will not start

2012-08-09 Thread AJenbo
I upgraded 11.10 to 12.04 and then purged removed packages. This left me
with out /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.sbin.mysqld (as mysql 5.1 was purged
as it was replaced by mysql 5.5). Copied the file from a different
machine made everything work again. Here is the original content:

---
# Site-specific additions and overrides for usr.sbin.mysqld.
# For more details, please see /etc/apparmor.d/local/README.

---
(basically an empty file)

[Bug 343988] [NEW] GRUB not booting to correct disk

2009-03-16 Thread AJenbo
Public bug reported:

Instaling 8.04.1 on my x64 system failed to set up GRUB properly. GRUB tryes to
boot from disk 3,0 but linux (and GRUB) is installed on disk 1,0.
This was fixed by editing the boot config using the live cd to access it. But
after an update, the changes was reverted. Furtere more i will some times
remove disk 0,0 as it is swapable. This causes the system to again not boot,
even with a fixed GRUB config, as the disk with Ubuntu on is now 0,0.

I used Ubuntu 8.04.1 live CD x64 to install.

[Bug 344240] [NEW] Compiz on Extra is anoying at best (video)

2009-03-17 Thread AJenbo
Public bug reported:

In this video i list the issues i am having with Effects turned to
Extra.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5CTgRhiUkU

1: When a windows is near the top or bottom menus, and has one side out
side the screen, it's corners will start to wobble.

2: Tall windows will some times start to jump from the top menu to the
bottom menu repetidly.

3: When a window is animating it's visual and clickable area are ofthen
not in the same location.

4: Tall windows are hard to move from the bottom to the top or vis
versa, as they stick to the othere end.

5: Sometimes windows will jump behind the top menu, leaving the user
unable to use the functions found in the title bar of the program
(minimise, close, maximize and move), not all users knows that this can
also be done from the content menu for the program in the bottom menu.

All theas bugs are confirmed (by me) on 7.10, 8.04.1 and 8.10, on two
different systems.

The solution to the most critical of thease errors is to only tell the
program about the desktop space and not the screen space, this would
avoice that the program jumps behind the menu, wobels and reduce the
jumping and flickering of the windows.

2009-03-22 Thread AJenbo
After some furthere experimentation and usage of the system it is clear
that this happens when ever i try to boot using the 2.6.27.11 kernel, if
i use the 2.6.24.23 kernal (8.04.1) every thing works swimingly, the
version number is the only difference in the two enteries on menu.lst. I
have tried sudo apt-get purge linux-image-2.6.27-11-generic, sudo apt-
get install linux-image-2.6.27-11-generic to no avail.

Memtest86+ an Vista changeloader+ works just fine as well.

2009-03-24 Thread AJenbo
I tried uninstalling linux-image-2.6.24-23-generic and any local/legacy
software.
Installed linux-image-2.6.27-9-generic, linux-image-2.6.27-9-generic and
linux-image-2.6.25-2-386.

All 2.6.27-xx failes to boot with the same message.

2.6.25-2 was able to boot but not all the way to the desktop.

I have tried running 8.10 live cd inside qemu on the system and that
worked resonably well.

As the system is no longer functioning proper i am going to reinstall it
from a fresh 8.10 cd (silly that it happens just before 9.04), if you
want any test data from my system it has to be with in a couple of dayes
since i need it to do some danish translations for 9.04.

[Bug 492951] [NEW] Why is the user asked to create preexisting folders?

2009-12-05 Thread AJenbo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

On line 964 of windows this text appears.

Open your Home folder and create a new folder called
emphasisPhotos/emphasis. You can do this by pressing
menuchoiceguimenuitemFile/guimenuitemguimenuitemCreate
Folder/guimenuitem/menuchoice.

But the Photos folder is a preexisting folder, and for good reason, so
shouldn't this line be removed?

This is also an issue with line 920, as both music and photos are
preexisting folders, othere files should also normaly be stored in
subfolder os the document folder:

To access your Home folder, press
menuchoiceguimenuPlaces/guimenuguimenuitemHome
Folder/guimenuitem/menuchoice. You can create new folders inside
your Home folder by pressing
menuchoiceguimenuitemFile/guimenuitemguimenuitemCreate
Folder/guimenuitem/menuchoice. You may find it useful to create
folders for different types of files, such as music and photos. This
will help to keep things organized and you will be able to find your
files more quickly and easily if they are categorized in this manner.

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

The applicationImport/application screen should be shown. If it is
not, press
menuchoiceguimenuitemFile/guimenuitemguimenuitemImport.../guimenuitem/menuchoice
to show it.

in musicandphotos a different procedure (that is quicker) is used for this task.
Click on guibuttonImport/guibutton. You should then see a preview of the
photos.

p.s.
Just noticed that both methods are used in musicandphotos:
Open
menuchoiceguimenuApplications/guimenuguisubmenuGraphics/guisubmenuguimenuitemF-Spot
 Photo Manager/guimenuitem/menuchoice and choose
menuchoiceguimenuFile/guimenuguimenuitemImport/guimenuitem/menuchoice.

easy one, although that means changing two lines.

[Bug 493169] Re: windows line 1058, no one ever mentioned the Local Folders, so how is the user suposed to know what or where it is?

2009-12-06 Thread AJenbo
If they use imap then this quide does not apply to them. T-bird, by
default, only stores mail from pop mail accouts in mbox format. And with
imap the user would automaticaly get there mails once the configure the
account.

Instead the guide should point out that the Local Folders folder is
located inside the Mail or ImapMail folder that they copyed during
the preparation steps.

Acttually i think the quide should point out that it is not nesesery to
make backups of your emails if you use imap, especialy as they will just
be frustrated once they get to the restoring par, because Thunderbird
didnt store the mbox files in the ImapMail folder by default, it does
however store a bunch of MSF files with excatly the same name (different
extension) that the user will likly think are the mbox files (mbox files
dosn't have an extension), Evolution will just gray out all file types
and not let the user continue with out any way for the user to know what
hi is doing wrong, and probably thinking that he just lost all his
emails.

-

Heres a suggestion for the new text.

Open the folder filenameLocal Folders/filename, witch is found in
side the filenameMail/filename folder, look for files with names
such as filenameInbox/filename, filenameUnsent
Messages/filename, filenameSent/filename. Select a file and press
guibuttonOpen/guibutton. If you have many email messages, you may
have to wait a while for the file to be checked before you can continue.

Changes should then also be made to line 756 to no longer mention the
ImapMail folder.

Around line 712 a note should be added stating that if the user is using
imap, he/she does not need to make a back up of the messages, as they
are already backed up on the server.

[Bug 493869] [NEW] Windows line 1114, This dosn't work for non english versions and the whole Outlook migrate path needs to be changed

2009-12-07 Thread AJenbo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

Outlook exports localized names in the CVS file so Evolution dosn't recognize
it as a calender file (this could be considered a missing feature for Evolution
). This results in the appointments being imported as contacts.
Bus since Evolution supports .pst, the user should just be told to copy the
outlook.pst file from his folder and import it in Evolutin. No messing around
with Thunderbird, or exporting/importing files for each section of the program.

I see that there actualy are steps for backing up the .pst file, but no
instructions are given for how to import from that file, or what it is
even for, just that it is unreliable and should be used for backup
purposes only. Well so is the .cvs method, especially for every one
that doesn't use an English version of Outlook.

should be corrected, ofcause this is more relevant for karmic as it is
the one that is reciving new users.

In some thing less related, could you help clarify if and when updated
lang packs are release as updates, for karmic in particular, and will it
include the docs?

[Bug 229825] Re: USB HP OfficeJet G85 Doesn't Work In Hardy

2009-12-29 Thread AJenbo
Some progress

1: Change the Device-URI from USB to HPLIP
2: Change the Model to HP OfficeJet G85 CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.4 [en]
5: Print a test page
6: Turn the printer off and back on

This made it print out one test page, and then nothing :/

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: checkbox

Built-in modem network connection procedure: 1.- Connect the telephone
line to the computer 2.- Right click on the Network Manager applet 3.-
Select 'Edit Connections' 4.- Select the 'DSL' tab 5.- Click on add
'Add' button 6.- Configure the connection parameters properly 7.- Notify
OSD should confirm that the connection has been established 8.- Select
Test to verify that it's possible to establish both http \\ and ftp

[Bug 460375] Re: Display goes black after 10 minutes idle despite never settings

2009-12-17 Thread AJenbo
Never mind, it turns out that i haden't disabled the screen saver.
But I would still like to say that it is very unclear that the inactive time
mentioned in the power managmentstarts after a time of inactivity controlled
from the screen saver pannel.
I would recoment that the slider from the screen saver pannel should also be
added to the power managment pannel, under the General tab.

[Bug 229825] Re: USB HP OfficeJet G85 Doesn't Work In Hardy

2010-01-08 Thread AJenbo
Ok found a workaround to get this crap to work.

1: Add printer (the usb://HP/OfficeJet, not the hp:/usb/OfficeJet)

2: turn off the printer, turn on the printer

3: run sudo /etc/init.d/cups restart

After that it seams to always print, but we haven't attempted restarting
the computer yet.

working on the last section this month, and then we will have a full
