Question regarding working of smsbox and sendsms
Hello, I am a kannel newbie who is trying to set up and configure kannel. My configuration is as follows: - Kannel with Cygwin on Windows. - Smsc: smpp simulator (http://www.seleniumsoftware.com/downloads.html) The requirement was to test the setup for both MO and MT messages. The configuration file used is as follows: # There is only one core group and it sets all basic settings # of the bearerbox (and system). group = core admin-port = 13000 smsbox-port = 13001 admin-password = xxx dlr-storage = internal #status-password = foo #admin-deny-ip = #admin-allow-ip = log-file = /tmp/kannel.log log-level = 0 box-deny-ip = *.*.*.* box-allow-ip = 127.0.0.1 access-log =3D /tmp/access.log #- # SMSC CONNECTIONS # Connection to the smpp simulato group = smsc smsc = smpp smsc-id = testsmsc host = 127.0.0.1 port = 2775 receive-port = 2775 smsc-username = xx smsc-password = xx system-type = 'VMA' service-type = test #transceiver-mode = 1 interface-version = 34 address-range = [0-9] msg-id-type = 0 #- # SMSBOX SETUP # group = smsbox bearerbox-host = 127.0.0.1 sendsms-port = 13013 global-sender = 12345 #sendsms-chars = 0123456789 +- log-file = /tmp/smsbox.log #log-level =0 access-log = /tmp/smsbox-access.log #- # SEND-SMS USERS # # These users are used when Kannel smsbox sendsms interface is used to # send PUSH sms messages, i.e. calling URL like # http://kannel.machine:13013/cgi-bin/sendsms?username=3Dtesterpassword=3Dfoobar... group = sendsms-user username = tester password = foobar default-smsc = testsmsc dlr-url = http://localhost:8080/forKannel/readDlrMask.jsp?type=3D%dreceiver=%preply=%Atime=%tusr=%nmessage=%a #user-deny-ip = #user-allow-ip = group = sms-service keyword = default #max-messages = 0 omit-empty = true get-url=3Dhttp://localhost:8080/forKannel/hello.jsp?mobileNumber=%ptext=%a With this configuration and using the http sendsms interface, I was able to successfully send an sms and get an acknowledgement. However, when sending an sms, the get-url defined as part of the sms-service configuration was invoked. This behavior had me confused since I assumed that the get-url would only be invoked for MO messages. Can somebody help explain why this happens? Is this expected behaviour? Is this because the sms-service has been defined as default? Can someone can help me understand the reason get-url gets called for MTmessages and/or the flow for MT messages using sendsms better? SMS per second
Hi, can anyone tell me up to how many sms per second can Kannel handle? thank you, Eric
Re: SMS per second
Hi, On a mediocre system, if you bench it with fakesmsc you can reach 2000 MT/s (half as much for MO). In real life the bottleneck is the SMSc connection which accept only ~20 SMS/s (depending on contract) BR, Nikos - Original Message - From: Eric Michiels To: users@kannel.org Sent: Monday, January 04, 2010 7:23 PM Subject: SMS per second Hi, can anyone tell me up to how many sms per second can Kannel handle? thank you, Eric

Problem regarding storing Message_id - Using SMPP 3.4
Hi, I am using sqlbox to send sms. Below are some problem i am facing I push dlr-mask as 31 dlr-url = http://localhost/dlr.php?messageid=somecustomidtype=%d; into send_sms , this goes to sent_sms immediately i get sms Now the kannel doesn't seems to invoke this dlr-url, Instead of this i see a new entry inserted into sent_sms table.with momt as DLR msgdata as something like this id:1024541450 sub:001 dlvrd:001 submit date:1001041916 done date:1001041916 stat:DELIVRD err:000 text: I wonder instead of invoking the URL how this entry got to db. Anyways what i am looking at is to get message_id from kannel as soon as any sms is sent for particular sms store that sms id the message_id from kannel in some separate table or just in sent_sms table in say new field called message_id so that the next time i have some DLR with that particular message id i can associate it. I saw in bearerbox logs that we have message_id in response to submit_sm_resp 2010-01-04 20:12:05 [8085] [6] DEBUG: type_name: submit_sm_resp 2010-01-04 20:12:05 [8085] [6] DEBUG: command_id: 2147483652 = 0x8004 2010-01-04 20:12:05 [8085] [6] DEBUG: command_status: 0 = 0x 2010-01-04 20:12:05 [8085] [6] DEBUG: sequence_number: 105 = 0x0069 2010-01-04 20:12:05 [8085] [6] DEBUG: message_id: 1024541450 As far as i understand When kannel sends the SMS to SMPP, it uses the smpp command submit_sm. SMPP immediately responds OK to the submit_sm with the message_id.and that is when Kannel knows about the messageID i want this message_id to be into db for particular SMS it sent submit_sm. The DLR could arrive in the next sencond or up to 3 days later. Please provide me with your guidance or thoughts on how this can be achieved.

MMS with Kannel
Hi, I am facing a big problem here and I hope that I can get some help from you guys. Recently, I have a requirement to send an MMS from my web server to an MMS-enabled mobile phone. The MMS contains an image file and a line of descriptions only. My question is: Can I accomplish this with Kannel? I have a Wavecom Q24 GSM/GPRS modem. If no, can you provide me with some hints on how to do this? Thank you. Regards, Low _ Windows 7: Find the right PC for you. Learn more. http://windows.microsoft.com/shop
Re: MMS with Kannel
Hi, Although with kannel you can push several MMS-like messages to mobiles (aka ppg, sms), you cannot push strict MMS. For that you will need another open source server, mbuni, which needs kannel to work with MM1 traffic, but I suspect you want to use it with MM7 (VAS) traffic, for which you can use on its own. Hi, Please follow correct list etiquette. Do not x-post to more than 1 list. This question is only applicable to users list. Read user's guide about msg-id-type in group smsc. If that doesn't work, please post configuration along with detailed bb logs within context (+/- 25 lines).
