sorry for the late answer.

Issue was on the initial AT command which respond 1 or 0 in place of "OK". The
modem is working quite well, I need some optimization but it should make it in
kannel.

Thanks again

did you try to use the fake SMSC in kannel tools, to stress your kannel

Hi all,

I need to have an SMPP server to receive customers traffic and I just installed
KSMPPD wich seems to work perfectly.

My problem / question is that I can't figure out how I can push back SMS MO in
such config. Is it possible ?

And if it is how can I push back the MO in kannel and route it to the correct
smpp client ?

I've try to search but didn't find any example or documentation for this case.

RE: Which Modem is reliable for sending / receiving SMS with kannel?

2019-10-01 Thread info.ubichip
Hello Georg,

I agreed with Alvaro, it looks your modem is not able to delete the incoming
message after reading it.
the init-string command from modem should be fine tune.

On the question to restart kannel every time the modem is not responding, I
remember you can tell kannel to reset it in case of misunderstanding or no
answer from it. Take a look on the max-error-count parameter. If the number
of errors is reached, kannel send init string by itself.

Meanwhile i believe this problem occurs if a message is received while
another message is sent. After that no more messages are received until
i reset the modem.

For example i found the following entries in kannel.log:

And isn't this also a bug in kannel, that it does not recognize that the

RE: Which Modem is reliable for sending / receiving SMS with kannel?

2019-09-27 Thread info.ubichip
Hello,

I suggest differents things :
- please take a look on the INIT string message for the modem, it
could be some parameters not setup correctly (I suspect some attach to 3G
station which could not be comptabile with the TC35)
- take a look as well on the log of the modem, sometimes it lostt
the network then you can make a start/stop (see kannel commands in manual)
of the modem to restart the init,
- if none of the solutions works, buy a power plug programmer (the
cheap one at 2 or 3 E) then make your system poweroff poweron every hour,
then the modem will attach the network when the power back

For other modem, I was using serial Modem from teltonika G10 and E6(I have a
few to sell) working fine for years, and some other IP modem (please contact
me directly).

hope it help,

Objet : Which Modem is reliable for sending / receiving SMS with kannel?

Hello,

may i introduce myself, i am Georg from Koblenz / Germany and i am using
kannel for years for sending SMS-alerts.

I am using kannel version 1.4.3 and a Siemens TC35 Modem with a SIM card
from the german Telekom. We receive about 3 SMS every 5 minutes, which
works fine normally, but about every two days or so, the modem stops
receiving SMS messages. It is still logged into the mobile network
which is indicated by the flashing of the green led and it still does
send messages, but no messages are received. If i then power it off and on
again and restart kannel, it receives all the messages that have been
missing before.

I phoned the hotline from Telekom and they could see that the messages
are not delivered sometimes and they suspect a bug or defect in the
modem and i should probably try a firmware update or another modem.

Thus finally my questions: What do you think of this? Which type
of modem is reliable for sending and receiving SMS? Has anyone ever done
a firmware update on a TC35?

Kind Regards,
Georg

RE: Kannel DLR with MySQL

2019-07-31 Thread info.ubichip
Hello,

you should put dlr-mask=31 then you will be able to get all the DLR.

Dlr-url should be accessible, usually on the same machine, and then a script
(php or other) is the solution to make the dlr process.

an example extract from my php script (not perfect but could be a good start) :

$username = $_GET['username'];

$password = $_GET['password'];

$dlrmask  = $_GET['dlr-mask'];

$from = $_GET['from'];

$to = $_GET['to'];

$text = $_GET['text'];

$udh = $_GET['udh'];

$dlrurl = $_GET['dlr-url'];

$dlrtype = $_GET['dlr-type'];

$myid = $_GET['myid'];

$finalcallback = $_GET['finalcallback'];

$retry = $_GET['retry'];

$smscorig = $_GET['smscorig'];

$priority = $_GET['priority'];

if ($dlrtype && $myid )

{

$stat = 0;

switch ($dlrtype)

{

   case 1: $stat = 6; break;   // delivered to phone

   case 2: $stat = 6; break;   // non delivered to phone

if (($stat==5)||($retry>=$MAXRETRY)) // If SMS Failed and we retry MAXRETRY

   {

   $retry=0;

   }

   if ($retry<$MAXRETRY)

   { $retry=$retry+1 ;

Hello,

I use kannel for sending sms. Now I want to get the dlr. After configuration,
sent sms are inserted into mysql dlr table. The status of the sms are still 0.

I add dlr-mask=7 to the request parameters for sending sms. After
investigation, I understood that I have to put the dlr-url for updating the
status of the sms.

Could someone help me to define the dlr-url and make the php file?

Could I retrieve the sent sms status thanks to an ID for updating another
database?(the ID must be known when the sms are sent)

In attached my  kannel.conf

Hello everybody,

First of all happy new year !

I'm facing issue with DLR. My configuration is as follow :

- Kannel with opensmppbox as smpp server. User send sms through smpp account
to opensmppbox, then opensmppbox relay it to bearerbox which send it through a
general smppc account (client). Then when DLR come back from this SMPP account,
the bearerbox send it back to opensmppbox via smsbox. I have also sqlbox to log
all.

But for lot of DLR, I have this kind of error message in smsbox log :

2018-01-23 08:00:12 [27471] [4] INFO: Starting delivery report  from

2018-01-23 08:00:12 [27471] [9] ERROR: URL <79c4dd12> doesn't start with
`http://' nor `https://'

So the DLR could not be delivered to the originator sender (which is connected
to the opensmppbox) and then could not be reconciliate, and the DLR table is
growing.

Do someone has an idea ?

Thanks in advance for your help

 Hi all,

In last few months we have been facing an issue with amount of opened files
(file descriptors) for smppbox daemon.

When the amount of opened files come to specific value (4850 opened files)
smppbox is being stuck and only restart of could help. The most of opened files
are used by Kannel daemons (bearerbox and smppbox).

We use commercial version of smppbox - 1.8.207-meta-r4019 and patched bearerbox
version with some custom patches and changing value of MAX_LOGFILES parameter.

Ulimits are configured as following (for user Kannel):

$ ulimit -a
core file size (blocks, -c) 0
data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited
scheduling priority (-e) 0
file size   (blocks, -f) unlimited
pending signals (-i) 120242
max locked memory (kbytes, -l) 64
max memory size (kbytes, -m) unlimited
open files  (-n) 50
pipe size(512 bytes, -p) 8
POSIX message queues (bytes, -q) 819200
real-time priority  (-r) 0
stack size  (kbytes, -s) 8192
cpu time   (seconds, -t) unlimited
max user processes  (-u) 120242
virtual memory  (kbytes, -v) unlimited
file locks  (-x) unlimited

Below is some other system settings related to that:

$ cat /proc/sys/fs/file-nr
  44480   1529806
$ cat /proc/sys/fs/file-max
 1529806

$ ps -u kannel

  PID TTY  TIME CMD

 3762 ?02:03:18 smppbox

 8522 ?00:00:00 bearerbox

 8523 ?00:27:05 bearerbox

The error I noticed before smppbox being stuck is:

> Max instances reached or expired, binding denied!

All the solutions I found on the internet didn't help at all.

Could you please shed a light on possible solution?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Fazal

Kannel, by itself, has no limits in terms of msg/sec or number of simultaneous
connections.

The limit is usually in the hardware you use, how you tune your database and
your link bandwidth to your service provider.

Dear Experts,

For my knowledge, please help me out in knowing that how many maximum number of
simultaneous SMSC's can be defined within the kannel.

Secondly say if i can define 100 simultaneous SMSC's with each supporting a TPS
of 100 Msg/sec. Would kannel be able to handle 100 msg/sec ?

Thanks & Regards.

Objet : issue with dlr lost with opensmppbox

Hello,

I assume probably this issue has been raise years ago (I read something in
2011), but I couldn't find any answer. Here is the issue :
I'm using opensmppbox, bearerbox sqlbox and smsbox. Different accounts (toto1
to toto9) has been setup in opensmppbox,

Sometime the whole box process are restarted, and then the SMPP account DLR
before customer can connect (totoX), so the DLR looks to be lost because of
lack of path to send.
Do you think there is a way to hold on these DLR until customers connect
correctly ?

Any help will be appreciate

RE: R: Using my phone and Kannel to send SMS

2017-02-14 Thread info.ubichip
Hello,

perhaps, the first step is not to start kannel, but only try to make a connect
to your tty then, try to make 'ATZ', and then see the answer from the modem.

If there is no answer, it looks to be an speed connection modem setup issue,
then try another speed, and so on.

I finally managed to recognize which tty my phone is assigned (tty9).

But now I ma having permission issues. I read from the user guide "In Ubuntu
linux you just need to assign kannel user to group "dial"", but I don't know
what that means...

So I tried the discouraged way just for testing: the initialization with sudo.

I am still having issues. I am receiving:

"ERROR: AT2[/dev/tty9]: Wrong or no answer to ATZ"

"INFO: AT2[/dev/tty9]: Closing device"

"ERROR: AT2[/dev/tty9]: Couldn't connect"

Is it something related to the speed (at the moment it is set to 9600)?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Oggetto: Using my phone and Kannel to send SMS

Hi,

I am trying to use my Nokia Lumia 625 to send SMS using Kannel.

I followed the tutorial, and I am using the 'smskannel.conf' combined with the
'modems.conf' to get it work, but I need some help.

I am encountering difficulties, since I don't know what is the actual value of
the variable 'device' in my configuration. So, when I start the bearerbox, it
panics as expected. Below is a piece of my configuration file, and the output
of bearerbox.

The /dev/ttyACM was just a guess, but it is not working. I tried the doing
"grep tty /var/log/messages" from terminal but it seems I have no such
file/folder.

I also tried "dmesg | grep tty" and it only gives "[0.00] console
[tty0] enabled".

Hello,

There is at least two solutions for you :

 - use the fake smsc feature in kannel (please read the manual

 - use the new great opensource Ksmpp which include a 'simulate'
smsc (AFAIK)

I hope it helps

Transmit MO SMS via SMPP

2012-06-22 Thread info.ubichip
Hello All,

I need to transmit MO coming from bunch of modem to a SMPP link.

Here is the scenario, I'm connecting to kannel gw via Opensmppbox, one SMS
is sent, then if there is any answer coming from hte handset, the MO should
go from the bearebox to the SMPP link.

It is a very basic question, but I'm wondering in anyone got issue with this
type of configuration ?

Regards

You may want to try using a the variable throughput in SMSC
configurations, I hope that works...

Also, kindly reply to all so others can read the message, to get help or
maybe comment on the issue :)

Good luck.

We already doing this, we store messages in the MySQL database and send one
SMS to unique MSISDN per second. However, sometime when we need to restart
MySQL or Kannel or sms handler, Kannel starts storing and queuing the
messages and Kannel do not release the queued one by one It tries to process
all queued messages at once hence SMSC return throttling error in submit
response because SMSC only allows one SMS per MSISDN per second.

OK if kannel does not support such limit, is there any way if i can limit
the queue releasing one message per second?

 I don't know if kannel itself has such feature, good luck.

Hello,

the best is to trace the count using a script on the access.log then count
and trigger the stop-sms command

Hi,

I know this is old, but, this issue still exists in the latest SVN.

My brearbox is set to use mysql storage for DLRs. As workaround I added a mysql
trigger on the DLR table before insert that swaps the src and dest values.

Thanks a lot, I will try it very soon.

one more question : does it change the way the dlr are coming back to the
originator of the request through SMPP ?

Yes, that is where the trigger should be. My kannel config has been set to use
the table kannel.dlr, and columns dest and src.

The MySQL command would look something like this:

delimiter $
CREATE TRIGGER `kannel`.`dlr_src_dest_swap_trigger`
  BEFORE INSERT ON `kannel`.`dlr`
  FOR EACH ROW
  BEGIN
DECLARE temp VARCHAR(100);
SET temp = NEW.src;
SET NEW.src = NEW.dest;
SET NEW.dest = temp;
  END
$

Other useful commands:

SHOW TRIGGERS;
DROP TRIGGER `dlr_src_dest_swap_trigger`; SHOW CREATE TRIGGER
`dlr_src_dest_swap_trigger`;

RE: OpenSMPP+Kannel: DLR: (dst src) are expected INVETED in the deliver_sm (but remains as in submit_sm)

2012-06-15 Thread info.ubichip
Related to my last question, when a DLR is coming, the mysql request is like :

SELECT `mask`, `service`, `url`, `source`, `
destination`, `boxc` FROM `dlr` WHERE `smsc`=? AND `ts`=? AND `destination`
LIKE CONCAT(
'%', ?) LIMIT 1

so if the destination and source are swapped, it will never match ?

Yes, that is where the trigger should be. My kannel config has been set to use
the table kannel.dlr, and columns dest and src.

The MySQL command would look something like this:

delimiter $
CREATE TRIGGER `kannel`.`dlr_src_dest_swap_trigger`
  BEFORE INSERT ON `kannel`.`dlr`
  FOR EACH ROW
  BEGIN
DECLARE temp VARCHAR(100);
SET temp = NEW.src;
SET NEW.src = NEW.dest;
SET NEW.dest = temp;
  END
$

Other useful commands:

SHOW TRIGGERS;
DROP TRIGGER `dlr_src_dest_swap_trigger`; SHOW CREATE TRIGGER
`dlr_src_dest_swap_trigger`;

which opensmppbox are you using ? I just checked the svn repository, it looks
some dlr source code is now inside the opensmppbox, perhaps there is a good way
to make correction inside direclty ?

I'm not sure to understand kannel will be past memory, do you quit the

Hi,

This is intended for swapping the src and dest for delivery report for clients
connected using opensmppbox.

If you are using the same bearerbox for other purposes, such as http smsc
and/or proxy, the delivery reports src and dest will also be swapped around.
You might need to swap the fields in the get-url or via script.

Personally I use a different bearerbox for each gateway, and a separate one for
opensmppbox, due to smsbox not being able to deal with any form of real load.
Each bearerbox has it's own mysql dlr table, and I only apply the trigger to
the ones using opensmppbox.

Luckily, soon kannel will be past memory; a horror story to tell my kids around
the campfire :)

Hi,

Bb has assumed this responsibility since almost 10 years now. It inverts
addresses to the original before submitting to the endpoint (smsbox). Since
then a number of add-on boxes have been developed since (sqlbox, smppbox).
It seems to me, that since they were created as add-ons to bb, they should
abide by the bb communication API. That means that they should treat
addresses as original and handle them according to their needs.

If bb were to change, so would smsbox. Since both of these preexisted the
other boxes, it seems to me that these boxes should align themselves to bb,
not the other way around.

If you decide to patch your bb, the code is in gw/dlr.c: 436 in dlr_find().
Bear in mind that if you do so, you will be branching off and future updates
may need merging.

Nikos

Subject: Responsibility for inversion of source and destination address for
DLR

Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone might be able to help explain to me what box has
the responsibility of inverting source and destination addresses in DLRs.
If possible, a pointer to where in the source code this is *supposed* to
happen would also be helpful. I emphasize supposed to because it is my
understanding from reading prior threads that there is an erroneous
inversion of these fields in smsc_smpp.c's handle_pdu function.

Here is some background on the motivation of this question. I am trying to
troubleshoot a problem with a closed-source kannel smppbox. The issue is
that the source and destination address of the deliver_sm (DLR) message is
the same as the source and destination in the submit_sm message. My
understanding is that this is not the proper default behavior -- that
instead the source_addr of the DLR should be the destination_addr of the
submit_sm and vice-versa. I wish to determine whether the problem is
stemming from within this smppbox, or if the problem is in my bearerbox
configuration. I am still new to kannel though, so I am not sure where one
would normally expect to see the inversion of these two fields occur. By
the way, the DLRs come downstream from an http smsc, but I don't think the
configuration of this smsc could be the problem since the look-up in the DLR
database is only being based on the dlr-mid and smsc-id -- the 'to' field
seems to basically be ignored.

I have been trying to trace my way through the kannel source code to
determine where you would normally see the source_addr and destination_addr
fields be swapped when constructing a DLR, but so far I have not been able
to spot it. To me, it seems as though the source_addr always gets assigned
as the source and the destination_addr always gets assigned as the
destination when dropping this information into the DLR database and when
pulling it out of the DLR database. It seems as though they continue to be
uninverted as they are converted into 'msg'es, and these msg's are then sent
to the smppbox for delivery to the ESME. Is this how it works though, or
have the source_addr and destination_addr already been inverted at some
point during the process of handing the message from smppbox to bearerbox to
DLR database and back out? I have been staring at too much code lately, so
I am hoping that someone can show me what I have missed. That is, can
someone explain at what step the source_addr (sender) of the submit_sm
message should get placed into the role of destination_addr, or receiver,
for the DLR's deliver_sm PDU?

Many thanks,

Mike

Hi

Sorry for this cross posted question to the lists but I need help on
this issue that is not related to kannel but with sms behaviour. I DO
REALLY need some light on this.

My wife have a phone that, during a weekend, was not able to receive
any sms but was able to send messages that arrived with no problems to
destinations. The only weird thing she noticed was that she did not
received any incomming message nor the delivery notifications she has
her phone configured to automatically ask for.

The next Monday after that, chatting with a friend of her -that lives
in Argentina (we live in Peru)-, he told her that during that weekend
he received several messages not intended for him. And when going
through those messages; they were messages sent to my wifes phone.
They do some tests and he sent her a couple of messages that he
received back on his phone as if he has sent them to himself. I also
sent her a couple of test sms and she did not received them but his
friend; also some other persons send her messages and all of them
arrived to my wife friend phone in Argentina!!!.

My wife's friend also received some delivery confirmations that the
messages were sucessfully delivered to MY cellphone nevertheless I
do not know personally this person, nor I have his cellphone number
nor he got mine!!! I assume that those dlr were to sms that she sent
to me during the weekend and were forwarded, as the other messages to
my wife's friend phone.

I checked her phone and found no way to do such a sms forwarding. It
is a Sony-Ericsson walkman phone.

Sometime this same Monday, without doing any change to her phone,
everything seemed to went back to normal. This problem hasn't repeated
since then.

This is so embarrasing and is obviously creating suspiciuos about me
spying my wife. Even more that, for my wife --at least ;D-- I'm an sms
gurϊ since I work in this business for many years To be honest, in
her shoes, I'll think the same.

The only conclusion I can come to is that somehow, during that
weekend, my wifes phone was automatically forwarding sms to his friend
phone. Phone/voice calls were not affected in any way.

Does anyone know of a similar situation of have a better idea of what
could happen?

I would REALLY appreciate any input on this.

Regards

Alvaro

Thanks for your answer.

what about a client I would like to remove ? is it possible to do it without
restarting opensmppbox ?

Simple. Before you tell a new ESME to connect, you add him to the clients
file, so that when he connects he authenticates correctly, all without
interruption of service to others (restarting smppbox). After that, you
don't need to worry about that client again, he will always have access.

 Hello,

 about one opensmmpbox, I see the following feature : SMPP Users are
 defined
 in a flat text file, which is parsed at client connection (binding) time.
 This means that users can be added, changed or removed without restarting
 open smppbox. The file can be edited by any plain-text file editor.

 How do you know how the opensmppbox is reloading this flat text and how
 often ?

 thanks in advance for your help.

OpenSMPPbox throttle and spamassassin

2011-02-03 Thread info.ubichip
Hello all,

happy new chinese year.

Does someone if the opensmppbox have the throttle feature to limit client to
send to many sms at a time ? if yes, how to implement it ?

I'm wondering as well if anyone implement a spam assassin in it? I am
looking for a function which could stop any content with bad word (mostly
viagra or any sex related).

thanks in advance for your help

RE: OpenSMPPbox users

2011-02-03 Thread info.ubichip
Ok, that makes sense. Does there is a way to tell the opensmppbox to
stop/restart time to time in order to be sure a customer will be disconnect (I
plan to put this add/remove client feature with a spam assassin in order to
remove automatically all customers which send non authorized content)?

thanks

Same procedure. Next time he tries to log in, he will be rejected. Doesn't
affect ongoing session, though. For that you can ask the client politely to
disconnect, and if that fails kill the connection process (as root).

Hi all,

This is my first mail to the mailling list, hope you will understand my poor
english !

I've just setup a new kannel install (1.4.3) with a sony ericsson k750i gsm
phone as Modem.
Everything is working fine (I can send sms and received MO) but I don't have
the DLR for sms I sent.
As I can see kannel is receiving the DLR but can't decode the PDU.
Does anyone already face this kind of problem ?

Here is bearbox log :

Hello everyone,

I have installed opensmppbox on a centOS server and have configured it with
a client, but the client is not able to connect. When the client tries to
connect it gives SMSC rejected login to transmit, code 0x000d (Bind
Failed). Couldn't connect to SMS center (retrying in 10 seconds).

On the server side, it gives this error, Invalid SMPP PDU received.

In 2005, I make a small patch in dlr_mysql.c for the for people using kannel
with modems. At this time the patch was using the triplet TS, SMSC, and DST to
find the right dlr and then make update/delete operation

I realized there has been some modification of the 1.5.0 release and my patch
has been reformated.

Now my previous solution is working if the field dst is passed to the function
dlr_remove or dlr_update and it depend on a field which the name is use_dst.
But despict my search, I don't know how to set up ON this use_dst (in a
configuration file or in kannel conf ???).

Does someone met similar issue ?

thanks in advance for your help and happy new year

Hi all,

Is there a way to fix the value of CMGF in FastTrack WaveCom modems to
AT+CMGF=0 instead of AT+CMGF=1? If I set this to AT+CMGF=0, it always
reverts to +CMGF=1 for no apparent reason. I even added it to the
keepalive-cmd string to make sure it doesn't switch back to text mode. I'm
using Kannel 1.4.3 on RHEL.

Hello,

thanks a lot, I wrote quite the same code to use the portech, but to have it as
a patch is great. It could be good to have it for the next kannel release.

May I ask you if you reach good speed to send sms with this modem ? We got
issue with the telnet, the longest the sms is, the longer the time to send sms
is. I asked Portech about this issue, and they said it comes from the telnet
process. unfortunetly, it is not priority one to solve it !

thanks

Regarding the siemens M55i, I would be very interested in some of you could

 Hi all,

 Sorry it is another compatibility request. The compatibility list
 appears poor concerning devices that work as SMSC.

 The fact is that I am actually using a siemens s35 which is really
 perfect to send sms but hardly manage both receive and send on heavy
traffic situation.
 After a while, incoming SMS are stored into internal memory instead of
 passing to kannel then refuse incoming SMS as memory is full.
 I tried siemens s45, sony ericsson t600 but can't find a real stable
 way (phone power down, phone freeze, etc.)

 So I am thinking about using a dedicated GSM modem instead of a mobile
 phone to avoid this problems (the simpler the best).
 The 3 models in compatibility list (nokia premicell, siemens m20,
 wavecom
 wm02) appears quite old and hard to find.

 My aim is to have a dual band rs232 GSM modem as stable as possible
 able to send and receive SMS without discard any of them.
 Wavecom appears still very active on the GSM modem business.
 Especially do you have any experience with wavecom Fastrack M1206B ?

 For those who have system running at 10 SMS/min (send and receive) for
 months
 - please share your experience.

Does anyone got some experience with this modem ?
I figure some slow sending process : it took almost 12 to 20 secondes to send a

Here is my modems.conf for this modem :

detect-string = SIEMENS
need-sleep = true
sendline-sleep = 1000
speed = 115200
keepalive-cmd = AT+CSQ
enable-mms = false
init-string = AT+CNMI=2,2,0,1,1;+CMEE=2;+CFUN=1;+CPMS=\ME\,\ME\
enable-hwhs = AT\\Q3
message-storage = ME
no-pin =true

Hello,

Some update on my issues :
I managed to modify the sms_at code in order to send the command 'module'
after the login and password. And the first issue has been resolved by
bypassing the speed detection the at2_device_thread function. I know it is
not probably the best way to do it but right now it is working and it is not
disturbing other modem I got on this kannel server.

If someone got an idea to make this modification more reliable, I 'm open to
all suggestions.

 Interesting side note, if you're using vim and need to generate ^M, you
 don't type ^ and then M, ie. shift + 6, then shift + M, you have to type:

 then you see ^M ... you can also type ctrl + v ctrl + enter which

 Hi,

 I don't know if it will find it easier in windows. The only way to run it
 in

 windows is through Cygwin - you have to download and install it. However,
 cygwin is just as tricky as Linux, plus is slower (emulation) and less
 stable. After you setup cygwin, just follow the installation instructions
 in

 User's manual. They are the same for both Unix and Cygwin.

 easily available in our local market ?

 Is there any step - by - step guidelines available from any list member

 I would greatly appreciate a swift and positive reply from the members.

 Have a nice day

 Subject: Using Portech modem

 Hello All,

 I would like to use a portech GSM gateway MV-370 on a kannel 1.4.3
 version, I'm able to send basic sms by hand using telnet as the
 following
 example :

 Telnet 192.168.1.121

 username:voip
 password:
 User level = admin

 Command : logout,module,module1,module2
module
 Getting module 1..
 Got!! Press 'ctrl-x' to release module 1.

 at+cmgf=1
 OK
 At+cmgs=1122334455
test
 +CMGS:30

 So I make a configuration in kannel as follow :
 group = smsc
 smsc = at
 smsc-id = portech
 allowed-smsc-id = portech
 log-level = 0
 log-file = /var/log/kannel/portech.log
 device = telnet
 host = 192.168.1.121
 port = 23
 login-prompt = username:
 password-prompt = password:
 smsc-username = voip
 smsc-password = 1234
 modemtype = portech
 validityperiod = 172
 keepalive = 10
 my-number = 0012345678
 sim-buffering = true

 I got the following error, it is like the telnet session is not
 initialized correctly :

 In sms_at.c, the following function looks not make the good thing :

static int at2_login_device(PrivAT2data *privdata)

info(0, AT2[%s]: Logging in, octstr_get_cstr(privdata-name));

at2_read_buffer(privdata, 0);
gwthread_sleep(0.5);
at2_read_buffer(privdata, 0);

if((octstr_len(privdata-username) == 0 )
(octstr_len(privdata-password) 0)) {
at2_wait_modem_command(privdata, 10, 3, NULL);  /* wait for
Password: prompt */
at2_send_modem_command(privdata,
octstr_get_cstr(privdata-password), 2,0); /* wait for OK: */
at2_send_modem_command(privdata, AT, 2,0); /* wait for OK: */
}
else if((octstr_len(privdata-username)  0 )

octstr_get_cstr(privdata-password), 2,0); /* wait for OK: */
at2_send_modem_command(privdata, AT, 2,0); /* wait for OK: */
}

return 0;
}

In my case the telnet device is the 'else if' case, looking first for a
carriage return then the login prompt, then the password prompt and then
send the first 'AT'. For an unknown reason, it send the first 'AT4 too
early.

Soes someone got idea of modification to be made ?

Hello All,

module
Getting module 1..
Got!! Press 'ctrl-x' to release module 1.

at+cmgf=1

So I make a configuration in kannel as follow :
group = smsc
smsc = at
smsc-id = portech
allowed-smsc-id = portech
log-level = 0
log-file = /var/log/kannel/portech.log

In this modem, you could have both in the same telnet session, you just have
to tell to the modem to go in the AT mode, which is done by entering the
command 'module' and then we are in full AT command.

So I got two issues :
- first to tell kannel to connect to it with the correct
login/password which looks to be not the cas
- second, I have to tell the modem to go in the AT mode, which I
assume I could do it by passing the command in the init-string of the modem
(as soon as the init-string accept the carriage return).

If you have any tricks to help me for the first point ?

Hello Alvaro, Nikos,

First thanks to your help,

I will receive the equipment soon, and I will update you about that.
I already take a look on the source of ths smsc_at, but there is no indication
of any carriage return 'feature' so I'm hope the ^M will not be see as a two
normal asciis characters if there is no mapping.

If not, I think the solution will be to add some how one second init-string in
the modem definitions. Is a init-string2 exist ?

What do you think about ?

A loong time ago I used to do some scripting (procomm, windows terminal
emulator) with modems and I used ^M and ^J (character carret and character
letter) and not CTRL+M nor CTRL+J in order to send CR and LF to modems and it
worked with no problems.

Lets wait info.ubchip tell us in that worked.

 Thanks Alvaro,

 I don't know if this works with modems but these are control codes
 related to vt100 terminal emulation. ^M is carriage return, ^J line
 feed (not with carret, however, but control). They are eventually
 mapped to ASCII characters (0x0D 0x0A). If some modem types
 implement them in their init strings, I doubt that it is a standard. Glad to
 know, though.

 Try^M carret and upper case M

 is an ASCII ?? representation of the carriage return.

 I do use old xyplex terminal server to connect a bank of modems to
 kannel using rawtcp mode in smsc_at config with no problems.

of a modem. In my case, the modem is a telnet one and I have to make a non
standard command before access to AT command.

I would to have something like
Init-string = hellocommand[carriagereturn]AT+CNMI=1,2,0,0

Thanks in advance for your help

 Hi Alvaro,

 Very handy and will try to give it a go here, to see how it operates.

 Regarding your question about the received counter, this includes not
 the Outgoing messages, but the count of the DLR messages received
 (They are incoming messages of a kind).
 Depending on how you are tunning DLRs, you might be able to
 approximate the true received count by doing TrueReceived=Received -
 Outgoing*X where X in most cases would be 2.

Is there a way to remove a message from the file store that is erroring
continuously allowing the other messages to be sent?

If I simply restart Kannel sometimes the other messages get sent and
sometimes they do not. Why is that?
If they all get sent but the erroring message I can simply replace the file
store with another file with a restart of Kannel, but I would like to know
if there is a way to remove the message by some other means.

rumors say that the Wavecom Fasttrack GSM modems have the fastest PDU
processing. Vendors of GSM modem pools (racked 4,6,8 devices to one rack
mountable device) claim to handle 4800 MTs with 8 nodes in 1 hour.

Which calculates to 4800 / 8 == 600 per second on ONE device.

So, if you want to maintain a high throughput via GSM modems, you need a
really large pool of them. But then you run into other problems, lice base
antenna cell capacity if all located at the same spot, so geo-co-locationing
is an issue and and and.

Hi All,
I've been successfully using Kannel for over a month now and it's working
rather well! Here is my scenario:
I'm using the latest stable version of Kannel and connect to an SMSC using
SMPP. I only have 1 SMPP connection at the moment. On an average day i send
around 70,000 sms which I separate on two batches. The problem is that
during the sending process(which in total takes around 5 hours each day), if
someone sends an sms, it will be processed and queued until all the previous
messages have been sent. This means that during 5 hours each day, users will
not get an immeadiate reply. To solve this, I was thinking on asking my smsc
for another connection and use two connections: 1 transmitter for sending
daily sms and 1 transeiver for sending and replying sms. Is such a
configuration possible? Is there a better solution to my problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Gustavo
