What category under page style should I use. Left Page? I am still not sure of the concept under Left Page or Right Page. Thanks For the help. You generally don't need Left Page/ Right Page unless you are producing something that will be bound, and therefore needs the inside margins wider than the outside ones, or if you want alternate pages to have different header/footer content. If you need one of these page styles, you need both; even-numbered pages will use the Left Page style, and odd-numbered pages will use the Right Page style. In your case, if you want all the pages to use the same style the easiest way is to modify the Default page style to have the header/footer content you want. Just using Insert Header and/or Insert Footer will do that, and Default already has Default as its next page style. Note that this will affect only the current document; if you want to use this layout again, you should save it as a template (File Templates Save), which will make it available to use with File New Templates and Documents. I'm glad you're getting the Writer Guide; you might also want to download the Getting Started guide, or just the chapter on Getting Started with Writer, which will give you a general understanding of the major features of Writer. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: sy...@openoffice.org with Subject: help

How are you creating the new master document? Theoretically, if you create a new text document and then select File - Send - Create Master Document, you should be fine. - Naomi Charlie Kelly wrote: I've changed the default template and the results are visible when I create a new text document. However, when I create a new master document, the styles are those used by the template included with the open office distribution. How do I change the temaplate used by master documents? Naomi's way works. You have to create the master document and all subdocs with the same template to get the formatting the way you want it. So, once you've created a document and then created a master document from it, you still need to make sure that you use the same template for the rest of the sub documents. Any template changes you make for the sub docs won't carry over to the master document if the master doc uses a different template. In OOo, it's better to make formatting changes to the template rather than the document, unless the change is really for that document only. This becomes especially important when using the same template for multiple documents, like you do in a master document. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[users] Re: Template/format for multi-page program
That's not quite what I was looking for (perhaps it doesn't exist). The brocure printing option along with the double-sided option prints four 1/2 sheet pages per side, 2 half pages each front and back. The numbering goes essentially 4,1 (on the front) and 2,3 (on the reverse). The printed pages can be folded in half, stacked (folded), and then the spine stapled or somehow bound together. What I was hoping to find is some way short of physically manipulating the half pages so that it prints two half pages per side, front and back, but prints the sequence in such a way that when the pages are stacked together unfolded, then stapled down the middle and the entire stack folded down the center as a single unit, the pages will appear in the correct sequence! Perhaps the only way to do this is to first figure out the total number of pages/sheets, and then create a dummy brochure with the same number of pages/sheets, then rearrange the page sequence. Next, manipulate the pages into the proper sequence in the software, then print using the double-sided brochure option. That would involve a heck of a lot of cutting and pasting, which I'd prefer to avoid since our paid ads are placed along with text, and adjusted to make best use of each page. Obviously, the pages have to be printed in such a way that the 8.5 X 11 sheets stack together, then fold into a properly sequenced multi-page program. Is there such a template, or where might I find instructions about how to do this? Built-in to the printing options. Called brochure. For an example, see http://www.barttersyndrome.com/program.pdf which I created in OOo1.9beta and exported to PDF. Bob: I have done this successfully. I haven't followed the entire thread, but here is how I do it: 1. Pick paper size that will be printed on. For my example, I'll use legal, landscape and the staple will be in the middle. Each 'page' will be half legal with width: 7, height 8.5 2. Create a page with those dimensions: 7 x 8.5. 3. Add all your info. 4. Print and select brochure printing, and change the page size on the printer options to legal landscape (your dialog will depend on your printer driver options). 5. Print and for an 8 page document, you'll have 1 with 8, 2 with 7, 3 with 6 and 4 with 5, two per legal piece of paper. Pete Holsberg wrote: I'm trying to set up a template that has a header on the first page only, and footers on all subsequent pages, but it's eluding me. Hi Pete, OOoAuthors.org has some excellent guides for using OpenOffice.org 2.0. You can find their published User Guide at http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/oooauthors2/index.html Regarding your question specifically, I would apply the First Page page style to the first page, then modify that style so the header is on. Then I'd modify the Default page style so that footers are on (headers are already off by default). Here's how: Let's tackle page 1 first... - Bring up the Stylist by pressing F11 or by clicking the Styles and Formatting button (looks like a hand on a blank page - it's at the far left by default) - Select the Page Styles icon (4th from the left) - With the cursor on page 1, double-click the list entry First Page. You've just applied the First Page style to page 1. - Right-click the First Page entry and choose Modify... - On the Header tab check the box for Header on. Click OK. Now for all the other pages... Assuming the Stylist is still up and in the Page Styles section, - Right-click the Default page style entry and choose Modify... - On the Footer tab check the box for Footer on. Click OK. You've now told Writer to put footers on all pages that are styled as Default. That means all pages except for page 1, which we set to the First Page style. Now that everything is set the way you wanted it, save the document as an OpenDocument Text Template (.ott).
