To give you some facts...

I tested this on the PIII with 2 browser combinations and the results
are...

NS4.5, CP2.1.1 - Everything runs perfectly. Doing 20-30fps in avarage.
Sound streams perfect and it just looks GREAT.

IE4.x, Contact. PIII enhanced with hw acc enabled. Full smooth textures
and whatever you can choose to make it heavier and better looking. Runs
at 40-65fps in avarage (some sidesteps down to 20fps at certain
viewpoints) and just looks GREAT. Sounds working but Contact warns on
some of the scripts. I'll look into this during this weekend and see if
I can fix it.

Also Virtual Real-Estate (the company I now work for) is offering to
host this if it is technically solvible (it's a european server). I can
also continue the investigation on CD's.

oh... and of course a thousand THANKS for bringing this out on the web
and this including new exiting tech to the community.

1999-03-18 Thread Bullard, Claude L (Len)

Ran across some interesting behaviors at home last night.
If one interupts a streaming audio while in progress by
using the Itinerary buttons to go to the next scene, the
audio for that scene starts while the last one continues
to run. Fun effect, but it also means that multiple streams
can run simultaneously.

If anyone is demoing this piece, do run it once on
your machine and let everything that can cache cache.
Smoother that way.

I finished the conversion of IrishSpace to the Web. Now you can hear Len's

Yes, you can get any number of audio streams running at the same time, but
the behavior you mention should not have happened. Load timing issues, I
suspect, as the Itinerary buttons load a blank html file into the sound
frame to stop the current audio, then the "Please Wait.." HTML loads all
the correct files (including the new audio) into the proper frames. (The
VRML, once it's running, replaces the "Please Wait.." message)

In some cases, it seems that IE4 is actually more stable than NC4.5. On my
new system (PII 350mhz, Riva TNT w/OpenGL acceleration, T1 line), I get
some inexplicable crashes trying to load some scenes in Netscape, but IE
does fine.
